Chapter 577: Blood Binding?
Chapter 577: Blood Binding?
The Gardener pulled back the chair and sat in it, watching as Lillian continued to feed his niece under his gaze. Ultimately, he ignored it and got straight to talking.
"Elara had given up the attendant role. How fortunate for you."
"Eh?" Lillian froze, stunned by what she heard.
The girl had already begun to plan out other ways for her to get into the event, besides sneaking in, but to think that the thing she was wrapping her head around was unfurled like this.
Why had Elara decided to give up the role of attendant?"
"F-for what reason?" Lillian stammered.
Gardener of Roses gave a nonchalant shrug, "I don’t know, and it doesn’t matter. Besides telling you that, I have another thing to say that involves both of you."
Marionette wiped her mouth with a handkerchief, having finished everything on the plate.
"And that would be?" She plainly asked.
"Your cannabilistic tendency."
Both Lillian’s and Marionette’s eyes bulged at what they heard, their attention now fully centered on the Gardener’s mask, who was now satisfied with their focus on him.
"At this moment, in theory, the True Darkness within your body is in a temporary comatose state. For how long? I’m not quite certain, and more research is needed. However, what I do know is that as long as you’re careful enough not to stir it awake, you will be able to imbue characteristics of it into your darkness."
Marionette narrowed her eyes. "And what if it does manage to stir awake? What then?"
"Simple." Gardener of Roses slowly turned his head towards Lillian, who blinked confusedly at this, "You will now have to rely on the blood of your lover to stay stable."
Marionette raised an eyebrow, "For what purpose?"
"Hm..." Gardener of Roses thought for a moment before answering, "The medicine that you had ingested and is now reinforcing your core is a particular medicine that requires mana to function. Once it runs out of mana, it would turn off like a light switch. Usually, it would feed off of its consumer’s mana, but due to a certain accident... That is no longer possible. Thus, the only way to flick that switch back on is to have it come in contact with your lover’s mana - with blood being the easiest way to do it."
Marionette blinked at that and nodded slightly with a serious expression. She then turned her head to Lillian, who unconsciously held a hand to the side of her neck.
Lillian was now thinking about what she heard.
Cannibal? Her blood? Stay stable? Hold on, where did these words make it sound like Marionette was now some kind of vampire?! And was it only her blood that she could drink to stay stable?
The Rabbit wracked her brain, wondering about the reason. She knew it had something to do with her blood...
’Ah! Now I know why!’
Blood Binding.
To some, a person’s blood was seen as their body and while a person’s mana was seen as their soul. With the two of them in the mix, it would be seen as the person’s entire existence. Every person’s mana signatures were different; they may be closely similar to another, but still different.
Thus, it led to the existence of a concept called Blood Binding.
By connecting something through your blood, be it through contract, enchantment, or even magic, that object would then be ultimately bound to you.
Similar to how Lillian had bound herself to her academy ring, the item that allowed her to transport herself back to the academy realm through a portal whenever.
If it were a person, though, then both sides would need to agree to the binding - otherwise, it would simply not work.
Lillian scratched the side of her head, still puzzled by the situation. ’But what does Blood Binding have to do with any of this? From what I remember, I didn’t set any form of conditions or rules for the binding...’
To begin a binding, a person must first have the thought of the conditions inside their mind before spilling their blood that would soon be imbued with mana. The conditions could also be as vague as possible or as detailed as possible.
If it were too vague, the condition would affect all parties that were under the binding.
Lillian continued to scratch her head until a memory flashed through her mind.
"If you had to risk your life for my niece, would you?"
These were the words the Gardener had told Lillian right before she spilt her blood and ordered her to imbue it with mana.
At that time, Lillian had thought it was a simple question about her loyalty, but...
It seemed like the Gardener had more intentions than just being a simple question.
By asking her that question, he had caused Lillian to unknowingly think about it deeply enough for it to be seen as a condition for the binding. The question wasn’t detailed enough to make it sound suspicious, while at the same time, it wasn’t vague enough for her to interpret it any other way!
Gardener of Roses interlocked his fingers as he found Lillian’s face to begin twitching. He smirked behind his mask; Lillian finally caught onto his plan - albeit it took longer than he expected.
Since the moment Lillian had told him she had connections to individuals like Nearlo, who was definitely a person with a reputation and strength to back it, he had begun to wonder if she had anymore.
What if, besides her family, she had a much stronger backing?
Lillian was a Tier 3 mage, which - while not rare - wasn’t common either. And, if what she told him was right, she was able to get through her Trial in the matter of a week.
While he didn’t know what the Trial was about or its location and theme, it definitely wasn’t normal for a group of mages to get through a Trial that fast.
There was definitely more to Lillian than meets the eye.
As the two dwelled deep inside their minds, Marionette sat with a blank look on her face - not thinking that deeply about what was said.
So what that she required Lillian’s blood periodically to keep the True Darkness comatose? As long as she was with Lillian, it didn’t really seem much of an issue to her.
Marionette tilted her head a bit as she held her chin, thinking, ’I must invest in a way to make it less painful, though...’
Previously, if she recalled, she had bit straight into Lillian’s flesh to get to her blood. While she was sure Lillian could endure the pain, she would rather it be a pleasing experience instead of an uncomfortable one.
’I believe I heard about a type of monster whose main source is blood. Perhaps, I should go hunt some afterwards when I get time.’
Maybe she would receive a Shard from it.
Afterwards, nothing much happened during the day, except that Lillian got put into another uniform - something that Marionette did her best to burn the image of inside her mind.
Lillian threw a bundle of clothes into the laundry machine, wryly smiling at the fact that she still had to do work around the mansion.
It seemed that her performance in the first part of the competition left the Head Butler’s ego scarred, and thus, he was now trying to improve every lacking skill Lillian still had within the remainder of the time she still had at the mansion.
Marionette leaned back against a wall, watching as Lillian folded the clothes that were put through the dryer.
While some may find watching a person do menial tasks boring, Marionette found it awfully entertaining - especially when she could...
"H-hey Mari!"
Intimately intervene with the girl anytime.
After Lillian had finished her folding, she was suddenly dragged to a nearby wall - her back soon pushed up against a wall as Marionette stood over her; her hand placed next to the Rabbit’s head against the wall.
Lillian blushed under the sudden closeness between them and instinctually turned her face away. "I-I’m still working..."
Marionette smiled a bit, "I’m aware. But I’m sure they wouldn’t mind if you took a small break~... Especially when your mistress asked for it, specifically." The Assassin slid her finger under the Rabbit’s chin and tilted her face up.
Marionette caressed Lillian’s bottom lip with her thumb, her eyes becoming warm at the current height difference between them.
"While it was saddening that you’ve become taller... There is a benefit to your current height now." Marionette murmured, caressing the side of Lillian’s face.
"And what would that benefit be—mmph!" Before Lillian could finish, Marionette had already captured her lips.
It seemed that whatever had happened this early morning wasn’t enough for the hungry Cat who desired the taste of Rabbit.
After that, the day continued.
Lillian would be told what chores to do, and sometimes, when she finished one, she would be attacked by a hungry cat, who desired her attention - something Lillian was always happy to give.
Despite the Gardener tricking her into a Blood Binding, she wasn’t one bit upset about it. After all, she was going to abide by what she said and follow it to the last letter.
Bound to Marionette? What more did she want?
