Chapter 581: Terror Caused by Thorn?
Chapter 581: Terror Caused by Thorn?
Millis gestured towards Lillian, "This beautiful white-haired maid is my best friend and sister-in-arms, Lillian Ker Arius.
Lillian tilted her head at the ’sister-in-arms’ but gave it no other thought. It was rather nice that Millis thought of her that way.
She raised her hand and waved at Crystal, "Hiya."
Millis then gestured towards Marionette, who had her arms folded. "This is Red Eyes, otherwise known as Marionette Von Roselle."
Crystal nodded, her wariness of the two now disappearing once she found out they were rather well acquainted with her butler.
Seeing that her lady’s caution had now dissipated, Millis smiled as she introduced Crystal to the two.
"This is Crystal Ker Dovette. This beautiful lady from the west who was with me during my time in my 3rd Trial, which I only recently got out of. Her family’s rather big in the airship and funeral industry. Oh, yeah! Lillian, did ya know the blimp I got on was made by her family?"
As Millis pulled Lillian into a small conversation, Marionette was rubbing her chin in thought with a raised eyebrow.
She narrowed her eyes on the Heroine’s face and asked:
"Excuse me? Trial? 3rd? Are you telling me that you have ascended to a Tier 3 mage?"
Millis paused for half a second before laughing proudly, placing her hands on her hips. She became even smugger when she sensed that Marionette was still a Tier 2 mage.
"BAHAHA! Shocked, aren’t ya? Can’t say it was the most easiest of Trials to get out of."
Lillian watched as the two conversed.
If she had to be honest, she was really worried that Millis wouldn’t be able to get out of the Trial. Unlike her, who had played through the Trial Millis went through and had knowledge on how to escape, Millis didn’t have any.
The Rabbit’s eyes narrowed, inspecting the Heroine, who continued to make smug quips at the Assassin.
Millis was either insanely lucky or was highly intelligent enough to figure out the way to find the Final Boss.
’Or it could be both.’
Lady Luck was very biased towards Millis, after all. Lillian only got a share because of her necklace.
Millis continued to scrutinise Marionette’s face, becoming amused in annoying the woman, "Heh! Ya better start locking in, Red Eyes. Because it’s looking like I got more things in common with Lillian~..."
Marionette’s face twitched again at Millis’s taunt.
Her fingers curled and uncurled, twitching repeatedly, as the urge to pull out her handgun became more and more irresistible in her mind.
Millis seemed to notice this and immediately zipped her mouth, subtly taking a step closer to Lillian as though she was intending on hiding behind her.
Crystal watched the three’s interaction, but found herself more drawn towards Marionette. She thought deeply about the name ’Roselle’...
Although she lived in the west, information from other nations came and went almost every day, especially through her family, whose business in travel was a normal thing.
She had heard about things regarding the Roselles; apparently, they were a family of highly trained assassins from birth.
Crystal had also heard that during the time of the Second Great War, a woman from the Roselle family had inflicted an extremely potent poison on a Tier 4 mage that managed to disable him completely, with the only thing he was left capable of was talking and making facial expressions.
That Tier 4 mage was said to be capable of pulverising mountain faces and creating a landslide with his magic; he was even stated to be durable enough to endure siege weapons when under the right conditions.
So, it came as a surprise to her when she heard this story that this powerful mage was then said to be later paraded through his home city on a flagpole. Apparently, the poison he suffered from began to corrode him from the inside, increasing my pain receptors.
It was stated that the woman laughed maniacally as she heard him cry in agony from her poison.
Crystal remembered that the woman went by the name of Thorn of Roses...
The Dovette shivered as she locked eyes with the Roselle; if this woman before her was in any way actually related to the Thorn of Roses, then it would be best to stay on her best side.
Marionette, who was coldly looking at the woman, watched as Crystal grasped her hand and nervously began to shake it.
"I-it’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Marionette. I hope we both can get along!" Crystal said timidly; she wasn’t someone who was very confident in social settings, which was the main reason she was sent to this event by her parents.
The Assassin looked down at the hand Crystal was grasping; her eyes slowly shone with a look of repulse as she slowly drew back her hand.
"Yes... I hope so, as well..." Marionette responded half-heartedly, causing Crystal to freeze and panic internally at what she had done wrong.
Lillian smiled wryly at this.
She had almost forgotten that Marionette disliked physical contact.
Looking between the two women, who both wore masquerade masks, Lillian slowly pulled Millis close to her and leaned into the Heroine’s ear - whispering:
"You are aware that you aren’t meant to introduce the two, right? That happens during the event when they drop the mask."
The Legacy Table wasn’t just an event for nobles of similar ages to gather, but also for them to communicate and get to know each other without knowing who was behind the mask, which would be dropped later into the event.
Millis waved her hand dismissively, "Bah! These masks don’t hide shit, ya hear? Someone with a bit of braincells will figure it out."
Lillian rolled her eyes at the Heroine, amused. Millis wasn’t wrong entirely. Since the mask didn’t have any enchantments to hide a person’s identity completely, it was only a matter of time.
’And also...’ Lillian glanced at the Roselle crest on the limousine, ’By just remembering what car they come out of, people can just guess who the person is by the family crest.’
Not like it’ll matter in the end, since usually these events end with everyone dropping their mask - some only still keeping them on as they didn’t acquaint themselves with anyone.
