Chapter 632: Jungle Lord vs Disfigured Human? [3]
Chapter 632: Jungle Lord vs Disfigured Human? [3]
By using the mini-sized vines in his blood, the Jungle Lord manipulated them to wrap together, forming a long and sharp blade.
Then, with both hands on the hilt, he stabbed down - piercing deeply into the Salesman’s shoulder joint before cleaving down, severing a majority of the shoulder muscles attached to the arm.
The Jungle Lord then released the vine sword before raising his hands. And before the abomination could even properly react, the Wendigo had already begun to rip through the remaining muscles still attached before eventually—
KRSSCH...!
—Ripping the entire arm off completely.
Despite having no lids, the Salesman managed to widen its eyes from the sheer pain. The large and disturbing grin looked more and more forced due to the pain.
With the loss of its arm, the Salesman immediately felt intense pain, followed by immense loss; along with subtle fear...
Soon after, it screamed; its voice filled with extreme anguish.
"KREEEEH!"
Jungle Lord paused at this, but only briefly.
With blood-covered hands, he went in for another attack. But unfortunately, the Salesman no longer had any intentions to continue with this brawl of theirs.
BAM!
Upon striking the Jungle Lord’s side and knocking him off its heavily injured body, the Salesman managed to buy time for itself to swim to the surface; despite having only one arm left, it still managed to make rapid progress with the help of its magic.
However, even during its escape, it was still hellbent on annihilating the Jungle Lord - especially to avenge its arm.
With a surge of mana, it commanded the surrounding darkness to attack the Jungle Lord, who remained floating in the darkness - blind.
In the past, controlling this darkness would’ve been impossible for the Salesman; he had the ability to control shadows, not darkness, after all.
To differentiate his shadows from other similar elements, he needed to improve his Affinity with mana enough to enter the realm of Mana Kings - the same realm Nearlo Farland had achieved against his fight with the Drowned King.
Unfortunately, his talents weren’t that high enough to accomplish such a thing.
However, that was before he took the Chrysalis Serum, which - with enough dosage and time - managed to improve his Affinity, eventually rocketing him into the next realm!
The darkness struck the Jungle Lord and began to tear through his flesh and bones, lashing and stabbing like bladed whips and spears; the severity of the Jungle Lord’s injuries was more than enough for the average mage to succumb to.
But that wasn’t the case for the crowned Wendigo, for he was no average mage nor monster; for while he was the temple guardian for a lesser god, he was STILL a guardian.
A lord!
Shielding his heart from being destroyed, the Jungle Lord began to regrow his limbs at an exceeding rate using vines.
The injuries caused by the darkness were healed nearly instantly. Unfortunately, the injuries caused by the shadows still remained, bleeding.
This was because the Salesman’s traits and abilities didn’t carry over to the darkness; they could only apply themselves to shadows!
While continuing to endure the onslaught of attacks, the Jungle Lord’s gaze remained fixated on a particular direction upwards - the same direction the Salesman was swimming up in.
Despite being blind, the Jungle Lord knew where the abomination was escaping to.
This was because, unbeknownst to the Salesman, he had left a singular piece of vine inside the abomination’s wound - specifically, inside the exposed flesh of its shoulder stump; just right after he cleaved through its shoulder with his vine sword.
With a flash of dark viridian light in his eyes, the Jungle Lord lowered his arms - completely reducing his defences to zero.
Then, he whipped his arms towards the Salesman, transforming them into incredibly long, dark green vine whips that were dozens of metres long.
His arms flew forward, swinging and travelling over long distances and managing to catch up to the ascending abomination, who was only a metre away from escaping.
The Salesman, who had long regenerated its eyes, swiftly swam to the light, having yet to realise that the Jungle Lord had already grabbed onto the fur on its back.
SPLOOSH...!
Pulling itself out, the Salesman let out a huge and deep exhale, relieved to have escaped, as it immediately commanded the healing item within its body to activate.
With its wounds healing rapidly, the monster quickly turned around and closed off the [Dark Gate] - further increasing its peace of mind.
It was safe, as long as it didn’t open the [Dark Gate] again, it would remain safe and out of danger...
That was what it thought.
Still sensing the Jungle Lord’s aura, the abomination shook with fear.
It swerved its head left and right, trying to locate the Wendigo, before eventually looking up, its jaw dropping slightly.
Having slingshotted himself out from the darkness, the Wendigo flew into the air - his arms fully stretched out to the sides, as though he was trying to mimic the wings of a bird.
The Salesman shook, its sharp fingers subconsciously digging into the concrete ground as terror flashed in its pupilless eyes.
It was scared...
It was not the Jungle Lord’s match...
It needed to run away!
Filled with fear and self-preservation, the Salesman turned to flee - intending to flee by returning to the shadows.
But then.
The Jungle Lord clenched his right hand.
CROOSK! CROOSK! CROOSK!
With a single gesture, he summoned an army of vines to burst into the room, coming from the three neighbouring rooms - including the one they were in.
The vines were sharp, long, and flexible; capable of piercing through metal and especially—
SCHNK SCHNK SCHNK
—The Salesman’s
skin and fur. They pierced through several different areas of its body, each one eliciting a horrific scream. Later, the very same vines began to haul the poor monster high up into the air, as if to pay tribute to a mystical deity.
The Jungle Lord soon made his way under the disfigured behemoth, allowing himself to get drenched in the monster’s blood; the warm liquid leaked into his open wounds.
Throughout the battle, the volume of blood the Jungle Lord had lost was enough to kill a regular person. And although such an amount of blood wasn’t enough to do him in, it didn’t mean he wasn’t affected.
The muscles in his body, which were already narrow and thin, had become even skinnier, making him appear to be only skin and bones - with very little muscle.
Fortunately, his physiology was special, especially his blood; for that was how he had summoned the vines, from the blood that he had bled across the other rooms.
The Jungle Lord then raised his right hand, clenching it once again as he surged his intent through the surrounding vines.
The Salesman, who was upright and facing the ceiling, was unable to witness a cocoon of vines forming beneath its body - slowly transforming into a sharp cone pointed directly at its back.
Then, following a second after its transformation, the Jungle Lord - who was hidden inside the cocoon - willed the cone to shoot upwards.
And upon blasting upwards like a rocket, the cone smashed into the abomination’s back with immense force.
BOOM!
The vine cone slammed the abomination against the ceiling, causing it to crumble and give way, but that wasn’t where it ended, for the cone continued to push upwards.
DUM!
Layer by layer.
DUM!
The vines continued to push the Salesman further up through the earth, shattering through both stone and metal pipes along the way; pipes that connected to the water facility deep underground.
DUM! DUM! DUM!
Eventually—
BOOM!
—They reached the surface.
...
Lillian widened her eyes, watching as a humongous pillar of dust and debris shot out of the ground, between thirty and forty metres tall.
Chaos erupted.
Houses began to collapse, and people ran for their lives, screaming with panicked confusion. However, that wasn’t what Lillian was entirely focused on.
Instead, she was focused on the Jungle Lord emerging from his vine cocoon to continue his brawl with the abomination in the air - swinging both his fists wildly; the impact of his blows was loud enough that even Lillian could faintly hear it.
’What the hell...!?’ Lillian shouted in her mind
When she had summoned the Jungle Lord to fight in her stead, she hadn’t anticipated he would bring the Salesman to the surface!
"They definitely had enough room down there to fight... to think he brought it up here..." Lillian hissed slightly, watching as the people around her ran for their lives; in danger.
Scratching the side of her head, Lillian felt an arm wrap around her neck.
Coming up the girl’s side, Millis stated with a broad and heroic grin, "Come on, Lils! These people are in danger! Let’s hop to it and get to savin’, mah Sister-in-Arms!"
Turning her head, Lillian watched as Millis scurried off to evacuate the nearest person; a corner of her lips curled upwards at this, smiling.
Lillian then thought:
’It’s either I save people, or I help kill the Salesman...’
Deciding that the former option was the safest, Lillian scurried off as well.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
The Jungle Lord continued to deliver blow after blow, bashing the teeth out of the Salesman; the two were now falling, soon to be reaching terminal velocity.
As the Wendigo was about to unleash another blow, it sensed a wave of mana emerge from within the monster’s body; danger flashed through the Jungle Lord’s mind.
Within moments, the Salesman unleashed a wave of shadows that crashed into the Jungle Lord’s body, throwing him off.
Following that was a downward slam from the abomination’s remaining hand. And with almost no way to escape, the Jungle Lord crashed into the ground first.
BOOM!
The two then continued their battle inside the slums, their fight wreaking havoc as countless homes and lives were lost.
The one-armed abomination, using its enormous size to its advantage, smashed through countless shaggy buildings - using its lanky arm to propel itself forward over long distances.
The Jungle Lord, on the otherhand, didn’t have such a destructive option. Instead, he was given either the option to leap between rooftops or run through the walls of buildings.
In the end, he did both.
BOOM!
By now, a quarter of the slums had been destroyed.
With a swing of its arm, the Salesman swatted away a cluster of houses, using their destroyed remains as a way to push back the Jungle, which was not far away.
Now that they were in the open, the Salesman became trickier to deal with - using the environment in its favour to move around. And with only one singular arm left, it became even more desperate to preserve its life.
The Jungle Lord leapt in between the gaps of the thrown debris, smashing through any he couldn’t avoid.
Then, he landed on a rooftop a second later - his fall causing a dent in the roof.
He knew the power of desperation firsthand. It was an emotion he deeply felt while facing the Drowned King. The Mighty Sea King was an extremely powerful foe, one he had never thought he would ever face in his life... and one that brought him such a strong sense of weakness when fighting.
Having to use all ounce of his strength, tricks, techniques, and more to even survive against the Might Sea King, the Jungle Lord knew to face the Salesman’s desperation with caution.
And that’s why, when he saw the monster send forth a humongous shadow wave, he remembered back to the advice he was given.
Light was its weakness.
Gripping the handle of the Regular Greatsword on his back, he severed the vine rope that held it in place. Then, he began to imbue his mana into the weapon, causing the edge of its black blade to crackle with electricity.
What followed was a tall slash of glowing yellow electricity.
It instantly crossed the gap between him and the shadow wave and cleaved through it with ease.
Following that—
"SKREEEH!"
—Was a deep laceration over the Salesman’s chest.
While electricity wasn’t truly light in the sense, it was sure darn close enough.
With another swing of his greatsword, the Jungle Lord began to slash his weapon over and over again, until it began to look as though his slashes were interlacing with one another.
