Incurable Pain Chapter 25.1

This was the second time today that Yu Luoyin had asked about Mu Anping.

The first time it happened, Bai Xunyin couldn’t be bothered to answer and ignored him. But this time, she couldn’t hold back her stern expression. She typed on her phone, asking him, “What do you mean?”

A faint fragrance lingered around the girl, an everyday scent of unknown origin — perhaps perfume or shampoo. Yu Luoyin had often caught a whiff of it before.

This fragrance seemed to possess some sort of magic, always leaving people feeling comfortable and pleased. At this moment, it even helped calm his restless mood.

Yu Luoyin remained silent for a moment before slowly saying, “I watched you guys outside for over an hour. I saw you smile at him thirteen times.”

Bai Xunyin was stunned.

Yu Luoyin continued asking, “He likes you, what about you?”

Before the words had even settled, a crisp sound of a slap, “smack,” shattered all the pretenses between the two.

This was the first time Bai Xunyin had ever laid hands on someone in her seventeen years of life. Her palm, still tingling from slapping Yu Luoyin’s face, trembled slightly at the fingertips.

—Likewise, this was the first time in Yu Luoyin’s eighteen years of life that he had been hitten by someone.

He seemed stunned by the slap, with five distinct finger marks bright against his fair, clear skin. He gazed at Bai Xunyin in a daze.

In the course of their relationship, Yu Luoyin had been adept at showing vulnerability, at “acting spoiled.” Often, he could easily make Bai Xunyin feel sorry for him or pamper him —

For instance, during Christmas, he had complained that he didn’t receive her “peace apple*.” Bai Xunyin had gone home and packed him a bag of apples, even writing notes inside each one as compensation.

Or when Yu Luoyin had said he was used to walking her home and to school, but was now too lazy to get up early since he couldn’t have breakfast in time. So Bai Xunyin had learned to cook breakfast herself, making two portions every day for them to eat together on their bicycles.

Later, Yu Luoyin had told her he liked the breakfast she made and couldn’t get used to eating anything else.

Unconsciously, Bai Xunyin had put in more effort, even occasionally bringing him lunch, although she now wondered if all this had been his way of deceiving her.

In short, Yu Luoyin had been adept at “acting spoiled” to make her soften and feel sorry for him.

However, at present, a look of incredulous brokenness shimmered in his clear black eyes, yet Bai Xunyin remained unmoved.

Nothing is more mournful than a dead heart; nothing more sorrowful than silent grief.

Bai Xunyin thanked Yu Luoyin for allowing her to experience the taste of “hitting someone” for the first time.

He had given her sweetness, anticipation, deception, shock, and a lot of mixed emotions. She had experienced a variety of feelings she never thought to feel in this life.

Bai Xunyin didn’t fear him, facing his gaze squarely, typing each word for him to read —

“Don’t assume everyone is like you, present in one place but thinking of another.”

Bai Xunyin truly hadn’t thought Yu Luoyin would twist things that much and suspect that she had something going on with other guys. This made her feel she had slapped him too little.

With heightened emotions, she vented in one go —

“Yu Luoyin, stop clinging to me. I know you were only with me because of the bet, and the same goes for Lu Ye’s pursuit. I heard your conversation that day. You must have won.”

“Acting alongside this mute girl is tiring and annoying. Please spare yourself and spare me too.”

“You’re making me feel disgusted right now.”

As Bai Xunyin typed the last line on her phone screen, Yu Luoyin’s pupils involuntarily contracted.

Taking advantage of his dazedness, Bai Xunyin forcefully pushed him and escaped.

From the impatient figure of the girl, one could tell that she regarded him as a terrifying beast.

Yu Luoyin’s gaze unconsciously followed her. He watched Bai Xunyin join Amo and Mu Anping, saw the urgency in the boy’s question, saw the girl shake her head lightly. The three of them then got into a car together.

The taxi drove off, completely disappearing from his view.

Yu Luoyin withdrew his gaze, his slender fingers unconsciously pressing against the spot on his face where he had been slapped just now.

That slap from the girl had been merciless, delivered with full force. It finally brought him to a temporarily clear state, making him realize that his thoughts, actions, and behavior at the moment were all terribly wrong.

How could he have suspected any ambiguity between Bai Xunyin and that boy? He was truly vexed with himself.

That girl was quite discerning. Even he had used so many methods and invested so much effort to win her over. She appeared gentle, but she was actually aloof and reserved. How could the others possibly slip past her keen observation?

Yu Luoyin could tell that during the time they were together, Bai Xunyin had genuinely liked him.

His impulsiveness earlier had clouded his judgment. He had been foolish to lack confidence in himself and to misunderstand Bai Xunyin. The girl must be even more furious now.

Her pointed accusations had made Yu Luoyin, for the first time, feel like he might have done something wrong.

But really, this bet was just a casual remark. Could it be so important?

Even if his initial motivation during the start of their relationship wasn’t entirely pure, could it possibly be more important than the genuine experiences they had shared?

Yu Luoyin couldn’t help but sneer. As a result, his lips twitched, tugging at the corner that had just been slapped by the girl. There was a slight tearing pain – Bai Xunyin hit hard, and the skin was broken.

But…

Yu Luoyin squinted unconsciously, licked the corner of his mouth with the tip of his tongue, and ‘recalled’ the slap that she actually did just now.
