Those who raised their hands vanished in a gaudy light show. The next thing they knew, they appeared in a wide public square.

Chen Changan made it with Creation. It was the first floor of the Trial Tower.

The over hundred thousand newcomers found the ceiling to be pitch black.

Their cultivation varied wildly, from Qi Refining to Empty Immortal.

Mo Wentian looked around curiously at the large place and his eyes met Fa Tian’s.

The latter’s eyes widened in shock.

Mo Wentian flinched at being discovered and wanted to use a secret treasure to gain some distance. He also had the one-eyed Immortal Emperor get ready.

[What rotten luck! The contest hadn’t begun yet and Fa Tian already found me. Am I going to die now?]

As for Fa Tian, he was shocked to the core. He was certain he had killed Mo Wentian a few days ago. [Why is he still alive?]

He was utterly baffled, especially by Mo Wentian’s aura, which proved that he was very much alive and the same person.

“How are you still alive?” He snapped at him.

Mo Wentian was meek, “You mean I can’t? You think you have what it takes to kill me?”

Fa Tian’s bloodlust soared. “Let’s see you pull the same trick twice after I kill you again!”

He didn’t get to make good on his threat for a gargantuan pressure fell on him. It was too much too bare, making him grimace.

Chen Changan’s cold voice boomed. “There will be no hostilities here! Only I say when you can fight, unless you yearn for death.”

Fa Tian quelled his bloodlust, having felt Chen Changan’s boundless power from the pressure. He gave up attacking Mo Wentian.

“Forgive me, Senior.”

“I’ll let this time slide.”

Chen Changan spoke and turned to the crowd, letting his voice spread to all cultivators, “There are many of you wishing to participate in the disciple contest, but few have the right. You are now in the first trial. Passing it gives you the right to truly participate in the contest.”

Chen Changan appeared in the middle of the public square, dressed in white, and an immortal air around him that made everyone feel beneath him.

The sight of the supreme existence which shocked the continent had everyone gawking.

Chen Changan spoke, as an incense stick burned out of nowhere with a wave of his hand. “This is all the time you have, an incense stick, to stand tall and overcome the pressure so that you may pass this trial. Kneel and you fail.”

The incense lit up.

The entire area was silent, with no one speaking under the terrible pressure. It was only a matter of time before someone squalled, and quite soon too.

Cultivators began crumbling under the mighty pressure, varied depending on their cultivation.

This was a trial that tested their will. The heavy load on their shoulders brought pain and torment, but pushing past it wasn’t hard.

Not that all had the resolve to do it though. In a few moments, thousands had already caved. They faded away, returning to Myriad Mountains.

Many large light pillars appeared in Myriad Mountains, courtesy of Chen Changan’s Creation, to allow any cultivators late to the party to join.

An incense stick burned neither fast nor slow, but each second required focus and perseverance to not slip up and fail.

Over the last month, tens of thousands came from every corner of Nine Province Continent to join the contest, but Chen Changan knew this trial would shave that number a whole lot.

Foxy was among the other contestants, biting her cute lip and scrounging up her adorable face as sweat trickled down.

Chen Changan didn’t go easy on her. If she wanted to play, she would have to follow the rules like the rest of them.

Turning to the Immortal Domain geniuses, they looked relaxed by comparison, despite the heavy pressure on their shoulders.

An incense stick was nothing to them.

Mo Wentian had never gone through such an ordeal before in his life. His teeth clattered, his legs shaking, all while the one-eyed old man mocked him in his mind.

“Boy, you have no will to speak of. Just give up.”

“Damn geezer, since when were you so evil? When have I ever shown anything but resolve?”

He was annoyed, looking from the incense to the casual Fa Tian. [If you can take it, why can’t I? I’ll make it!]

[I will succeed and become the supreme being’s disciple. I won’t fail at the very start!]

Chen Changan observed the huge square and had to admit there were plenty of strong-willed geniuses around.

“Oh, I’m amazed Mo Wentian lasted this long.” Chen Changan started.

He knew Mo Wentian’s cultivation very well and found it a miracle he lasted this long.

A crowd gathered outside, watching as cultivators appeared around from having failed the test.

They knew then that the contest was hard. Over ten thousand people were kicked out in the first moments alone.

Those that failed looked back in disgruntlement. [Why couldn’t I hold on a bit longer?]

[It was just an incense stick of time!]

They sighed at their futility.

The pressure brought with it constant pain and agony. Only failing did they notice the real aspect of the pressure. They just had to persevere and would’ve passed.

In short, it was their will that failed them.

The incense finally burned out, marking the end of the first trial.

Chen Changan scanned the crowd and found there to be over fifty thousand people remaining from the original hundred thousand plus.

This single trial shed two-thirds of the participants.

It went to show just how harsh and brutal the contest was going to be.
