Chapter 1582: The Pieces Are Moving
Chapter 1582: The Pieces Are Moving
Ying Zheng, Bai Qi, and the Grand Preceptor entered the Void Battlefield with their own space portal, followed by Wu Hong and the Song twins. Wang Wei remained, seizing up his opponent. The Terracotta General resembled what any Terracotta Warriors would look like with its clay stature. However, his face was very expressive, almost humane.
"Tell me: do you consider yourself a sentient and independent creature?" Wang Wei asked.
"What a stupid question to ask," the Terracotta General replied as he summoned a halberd composed entirely of rock.
"I suddenly understand Sir Lie’s disdain for the state of Puppet Dao in this world," Wang Wei muttered. A mark appeared on his forehead, signaling he was now connected to the Origin Seal Continent’s primary defense array.
Swish!
Before Wang Wei could even make a move, someone appeared behind him and stabbed his heart. Unfortunately for the attacker, even though they bypassed Wang Wei’s detection and danger senses, he still had other techniques for situations like this. So, as the dagger was about to break his first-line defense and pierce through his skin, his fleshly body instinctively activated the [Emptiness Power].
The dagger was instantly corroded, and the assassin’s hands were about to follow. But the attacker had ample experience and abandoned their weapons before moving away. They were lucky they acted swiftly, since even their black gloves were already corroded in this short period.
Wang Wei looked at the attacker and frowned. The person was clad in all black, covering not only their faces but also their gender. However, his eyes soon caught a logo on the right shoulder. It was a small hand with a knife stabbing through a skull.
"The Black Assassin Order? Why are you involved in this matter? Better yet, how did you pass through the Hong Protective System?" Wang Wei asked. The Black Assassin Order is often recognized as the most powerful shadow organization in the Chaos Universe.
Throughout their existence, they have successfully hunted down numerous Primals, building their reputation. They are also known for their flamboyant way of operating since they always leave their logos after a successful mission.
The assassin’s presence suggests that Ying Zheng had paid for a contract, but the issue was how he had brought these people inside. The Hong Protection System has been active since the return of the Ancestors, only allowing people with citizenship from the Eternal Ascension World to leave or enter.
’There are a few ways this would happen: the order has always had members with citizenship to facilitate missions in the Eternal Ascension World, a Primordial Saint has found a way to smuggle someone inside — maybe with Ying Zheng’s help, or Heavenly Dao has allowed them entry.’
All three were possible. All top lineages will have branches in numerous worlds across the Chaos Universe. And the members of that branch will have citizenship in their designated world, even though they are loyal to a foreign power. So, it’s highly likely that the Black Assassin Order has members from the Eternal Ascension World.
The disaster is an event that will affect the entire Chaos Universe, meaning countless eyes are already on the Eternal Ascension World. So, Wang Wei would not be surprised if these foreign powers had already created means for their descent into this world at the appropriate time — and the process would be much easier if they had Ying Zheng’s cooperation.
Lastly, the assassin’s presence might be Heavenly Dao’s move. One of the reasons Wang Wei refused to be the chosen one for the upcoming disaster is due to how shady Heavenly Dao is operating. There are seven spots for Transcendent or Saint Lineages, but those seven spots do not have to go to any of the Overlords or people born in the Eternal Ascension World. As long as foreign powers are willing to change their citizenship status, Heavenly Dao will gladly accept them as "natives" of this world and hand the destiny to them.
"I’ll leave the rest to you," the Terracotta General said before flying in the direction of Origin Seal City. Wang Wei was about to stop him, but the assassin had already locked on him. After the general arrived above the city, he took out a strange talisman before starting to mutter an incantation.
With a quick glance, Wang Wei would tell this talisman was gathering power for a powerful attack that could penetrate the city and the continent’s array. He could imagine the terrible consequences if the Qin court broke through the continent’s protection. They could kill the cultivators, wreak havoc, or worse, forcefully take the faction’s Qi Luck.
’I must stop them,’ Wang Wei thought. He did not hesitate to contact the sect for reinforcement.
Dao Opening Sect:
Qiyuan was watching everything unfold from an array projecting images. He watched everything calmly until he received Wang Wei’s distress call. "Let’s move," he said to Yan Shirong. There was no pause or hesitation. He directly mobilized two primals to support Wang Wei.
However, his attempt soon proved futile. His teleportation failed as he was forcefully drawn to an area outside of the sect’s primary domain.
"Sage Glass Pen, Beast King," Qiyuan said calmly as he looked at the two people before him.
"You should not interfere in matters that do not concern you," Sage Glass Pen said calmly.
Qiyuan looked at him, his mind racing as he deduced numerous things. He suddenly realized something and no longer hesitated to ask for more help. Then, ten seconds later, Battle Maniac and Ancient Desolate left their seclusion and rushed to this area.
Sword Path League:
Yan Hai sat cross-legged with eyes closed before a glowing, broken sword. Her body was releasing a strange aura when she suddenly sensed something and opened her eyes. She frowned for a second before slowly walking out of the room.
Seven Strike Sword God appeared before him: "Are you done?"
"I’m taking a break. I’ll be back once I’m done."
"You can’t do that."
"And why is that?" Yan Hai said with a raised eyebrow.
"That was not part of our agreement."
"Tell me where in our agreement it said I must complete the allocated time in one sitting?" Yan Hai asked with a sneer.
"I believe it was heavily implied since we must keep this sword a secret," Seven Strike argued.
"If you want to take the alliance’s side in this conflict, do it. But be prepared for the consequences of your actions."
"Are you threatening us?"
"Did I stutter?" Yan Hai replied, staring him directly in the eyes.
Seven Strike frowned. He took a moment to communicate with the others. "Fine. Have it your way." The Sword League Path chose to remain neutral in this conflict. Yan Hai snorted coldly before teleporting away. As soon as she joined her brothers and sisters, a deep sigh echoed between Heaven and Earth.
"Why do you have to complicate things?" Dugu Baitian and the other three primals showed up.
"I have to say, I’m surprised," Yan Hai said. "I didn’t think you would accept being Ying Zheng’s lapdog."
"It’s been so long, but your insults are still so simple and juvenile," Dugu Baitian shook his head.
"That’s because I speak the truth, and that’s usually enough to get the job done," Yan Hai replied, looking at the man behind Dugu Baitian, who looked like he might be the latter’s shadow if not for the enormous sword on his back. This man was immediately agitated by Yan Hai’s words.
"No need to pay her any mind," Dugu Baitian said calmly, and the man’s demeanor instantly changed; he became calm and composed.
"A dog of a dog — I wonder whether there should be a special name for you," Yan Hai sneered. The Earth Sword God is, without a doubt, the most despised Primal in the Eternal Ascension World. Firstly, he is hated by the swordsman because he dared to call himself a Sword Saint despite not being a pure swordsman. However, this was not the main reason the world despised him.
His hatred stemmed from the fact that he was Dugu Baitian’s lapdog in the literal sense. The Earth Sword God does everything Dugu Baitian asks of him; he’s the very reason the latter can control the Grand Sect Alliance without much of an issue.
No matter the problem, the Earth Sword God would vote in favor of Dugu Baitian. Then, Dugu Baitian only needs to convince one of the three other primals, or sow dissonance among them, to have a majority vote. This system has allowed Dugu Baitian to maintain power for billions of yuan epochs.
"Stop wasting your time," Dugu Baitian said. "Now, let’s decide whether we fight or not."
"You think you can come here and leave without a fight?" Wang Chong sneered.
"Our objective is just to stop you from interfering. There is no need to fight since you should understand that you cannot win in time to save your people."
"Shirong, your opponent is the Gentle Soil Primal. She’s the weakest, and with the blessing of the sect’s luck, you might be able to defeat her," Qiyuan said calmly.
"I’ll take Dugu Baitian," Yan Hai said with a sneer.
