Chapter 1700: Soul Remnant

Chapter 1700: Soul Remnant

Fate Cardinal could no longer suppress his rage. Like a madman, he started plucking myriad strings from the River of Fate, destroying countless timelines. And they were not instantly destroyed. No, something went wrong in these timelines, resulting in their subsequent annihilation — everything appeared natural. However, after a few seconds, Fate Cardinal was no longer satisfied with this slow approach and started annihilating these timelines with pure brute force.

’You would choose a corpse over me?’ Fate Cardinal screamed internally as he annihilated countless worlds and lives. The venting session lasted a few seconds before he regained his bearings. Then, with a snap of everything, he restored all the damage he had done. Had he truly lost control? All signs say so, but why did he restrain his [Existence Hierarchy] when killing these creatures? Had he not done that, it would never be so easy for him to reverse the damage. As such, whether the Fate Cardinal was truly angry or putting on an act, well, maybe only he truly knows.

After exhaling to calm down, the cardinal executed his order. The River of Fate trembled immensely before releasing an intense silver-white light that enveloped Wang Wei’s soul inside the seal and instantly took it away. Myriad strings immediately embedded into this soul remnant, rapidly eliminating the corruption.

"What a disgusting power,’ Fate Cardinal muttered. If not for the homecourt advantage, he realized the purification process would never have been this simple. Regardless, after a bit of time, the corruption was eliminated, leaving a pure — albeit empty — soul vessel. Then, with a bit of manipulation, Fate Cardinal restored Wang Wei’s [Existence Blueprint]. The parts about consciousness or wisdom were gone, but his memories and records of his life returned.

Without wasting much time, Fate Cardinal started searching for something. After a few seconds, he frowned before using even more power. Then, the entire River of Fate began shaking uncontrollably. ’I guess I can’t do this on my own.’ Countless thoughts travelled to different parts of the universe, and a few seconds later, the other cardinals arrived.

"Have you found clues about the weapon? "The Judge of Chaos, also known as the Primordial Cardinal, asked as soon as she appeared.

"No."

"Then, why are you wasting my time?" Primordial Cardinal asked with a frown. "Listen, Fate, the trouble of this weapon is also yours."

"Don’t try to blame me. I’ve done my job by discovering and reporting the news," Fate Cardinal sneered. He was already on a short leash, so he wanted nothing to do with this mission.

"Do you think you can escape this?" Primordial countered. A third-order Saint weapon of unknown origin whose fate and destiny could not be detected and whose power could affect the entire operation of the Chaos Universe recently showed up. If not dealt with properly, none of them can escape punishment.

Fate ignored her and waited for the others. Anyway, he had already done his part by detecting the anomaly and reporting it for investigation. The Primordial Cardinal looked at him with gritted teeth, trying to control her anger. Such trouble couldn’t have happened at a worse time. Everybody was busy preparing for the upcoming Transcendent Age, and now something like this happened. No, it’s most likely not a coincidence.

’I need to prepare for the possibility of failing this mission,’ the Primordial Cardinal thought. ’Under normal circumstances, such a mission should have gone to Time.’ The most likely place this weapon, comparable to a Grand Dao Saint, would be hidden is the Infinite Trichiliocosm, but now, with the upcoming expedition, the Time Cardinal was already preoccupied with a mission.

’I only need to do my best and wait until after the expedition to throw this hot potato to him,’ the Primordial Cardinal analyzed.

While she was the first to arrive, the others did not take long to appear for the meeting. Then, they looked at Fate, not hiding their annoyance. Everybody was busy, and unless it was imperative, calling a meeting was a pointless endeavor. However, after hearing the latter’s explanation, they understood why they were. Without saying much, they started helping him.

The six Grand Constructs materialized in their fullest grandeur, surrounding Wang Wei’s soul as he searched for something. However, a projection of an ax materialized from Wang Wei’s soul and cleaved apart all the power trying to invade his earth memories.

"That Pangu is truly a nasty piece of work. Even after his death, he remains a pain in other people’s ass," Qi Cardinal complained. None of them was surprised by this outcome. In every timeline, whenever they try to search the memories of someone from the Prehistoric World, the results are always the same.

"Dead?" The Magistrate of Heaven sneered. He would rather eat his own feet than believe such a powerful entity was dead.

"In the end, it doesn’t matter, does it?" Samsara Cardinal shrugged. She then glanced at Fate. "Is this all?" Everybody was here just for show. They understood Wang Wei’s importance to Grand Dao; as such, despite knowing it was impossible to read his memories, they must make it appear they were doing their jobs.

"Yes," Fate Cardinal calmly replied. He watched everybody leave before focusing on the soul remnant. He still had work to do, so he attended to them.

"Hold on a second," Time Cardinal said as he followed the Primordial Cardinal. "How is your mission going?"

"What do you think?" she replied. Recently, more and more problems have cropped up. In just a short while, two third-order Saint artifacts have appeared. The first one has been identified and is related to Heavenly Book Paragon and Grand Dao’s scheme, so it’s not an issue. But the other has the potential to cause terrible problems due to its unknown nature.

"Where have you looked?"

"I’ve searched everywhere, including the others’ domain — well, except yours."

The Time Cardinal’s feline eyes suddenly turned sharp: "What are you trying to imply?"

"I’m not implying anything. But as you know, your domain is the largest, and I’m not adept at navigating it. So, if there was a place this weapon could successfully be hidden, it’s yours."

Time Cardinal resisted the urge to curse this woman’s entire lineage. How could he not understand what she’s planning to do? Unfortunately, her plan might work. Over the years, he has reduced his power in the Primordial Timeline, and in return, he drastically reduced the other cardinal’s powers in the Infinite Trichiliocosm. So, as long as this woman can show she did her best to search for the artifact in this timeline, Grand Dao will task him to continue her work in the other timelines.

"Have you checked with the Primeval Body Mansion?" Time Cardinal asked. The mansion is the only open lineage with a Grand Dao Saint. Given that they are also willing to abide by the rules, the Cardinal often "bullies" them by involving them in all kinds of trouble.

"I wanted to, but this time, there is not a single sign that points to them. I tried creating one, but they were not having any of it," Primordial Cardinal explained. While the Bi Clan and the mansion follow the rules, everything must be done correctly, or they won’t give the cardinals any face. In certain situations, Primordial Cardinals’ attempt to falsify evidence might have worked, but for this kind of trouble, the mansion chose to excuse itself.

"In that case, your only choice is to negotiate with these Saints or send out a Grand Dao Mission," Time Cardinal commented. He hoped to Heaven that this mission would be completed before this expedition. Well, that was impossible, but a cat can dream, can’t it?

"I wanted to, but with the upcoming expedition, most of them are not really approachable." No one wanted to be forcefully conscripted, let alone these powerful beings who are supposed to be standing at the top of the pyramid. " As for the mission?" Primordial Cardinal smiled wryly.

The rewards given are often not appealing to the truly powerful Saints, while the danger involved is too high for the weaker ones. The best scenario is for a Paragon to accomplish these missions as these rewards are truly "heaven-defying," but how can regular Paragons do something that even these Cardinals cannot?

"That’s the current plan."

Time Cardinal hesitated. He opened his mouth to say something and stopped himself. Finally, he said, "Anyway, do your best."

’What a greedy cat,’ Primordial Cardinal thought with a sneer. ’He could have given me more access to the Infinite Trichiliocosm to deal with this problem, but he clings to it like it was a trophy.’

"That’s all I can do," Primordial Cardinal sighed, her expression unreadable. "Is that all? Or do you need something else from me?"

"That’s all."

"Good. I’ll see you during the expedition."

Time Cardinal watched her leave, his expression solemn. The Transcendent Age is coming, and Grand Dao’s tolerance for their shenanigans is becoming less and less.

’Nothing can go wrong for this expedition. So, let’s put aside everything for now,’ Time Cardinal thought. As he turned to leave, he suddenly received an order and changed his destination.
