Journey of the Fate Destroying Emperor

Chapter 1708: Saint Assembly

Chapter 1708: Saint Assembly

Terminus Heaven, Unknown Dimension:

Maitreya stepped into a portal with the troops and all the Primals following behind her. And as soon as they stepped into this unknown space, everybody’s heart suddenly tightened. The first thing they noticed was the hierarchy. The troops and the Primals stood on the ground of this beautiful, luscious world of endless green and towering mountains. About a few thousand meters above their head stood a few humanoid individuals with a terrifying aura without even revealing it. Finally, near the clouds, a handful of symbols dominated everything between Heaven and Earth.

"Come with me," Maitreya said to Wang Wei. As the commander of this expedition, he had some privileges, but he wished he did not. No matter their relationship, none of these Saints dared confront each other or release their aura; they were remarkably restrained. Yet, their mere presence has placed a lot of pressure on everyone present. Wang Wei — with his Saint Dao Heart — should have fared better, but when all eyes immediately focused on him, the pressure dramatically increased. Regardless, he remained composed as he flew to the "second" level of this area.

Wang Wei immediately recognized a few people: Old Man Tianji, Monk Dhammadhina, Death Breath, and Supreme Thrust. During the Mortalhood Trial, they never appeared in their human forms, but Wang Wei still recognized them by their auras. He had investigated these Saints through Maitreya and knew quite a bit about them.

Wang Wei’s eyes did not stay too long on these people. He still remembered Maitreya’s warning; he would not expect the rules not to apply to him. As such, he briefly observed everybody before standing aside, quietly. ’There seems to be a division among the Primordial Chaos Saints. The preliminary analysis is that this division is between the Old Saints who sanctified before the Ultimate Taboo and the New Saints who did it because of it.’

The division makes perfect sense to Wang Wei. The Old Saints are, without a doubt, way more powerful than the New Ones because they did not use flawed or incomplete methods as their foundations. Most of the New Saints are still rebuilding their foundations to increase the number of pillars. Meanwhile, the Old Saints are pursuing the second step.

’There is also the sense of camaraderie,’ Wang Wei analyzed. ’These Old Saints were severely restricted by the Grand Dao, forcing them to work together for a chance of survival. Meanwhile, these New Saints heavily benefited from the freedom granted to them by whatever these people did during the Ultimate Taboo,’ Wang Wei analyzed. He would not be surprised if many of these Old Saints held heavy disdain and resentment for their fellow companions.

’On another note, Maitreya is probably the strongest of the New Saints,’ Wang Wei thought. If it’s as challenging as he knows to increase the foundation pillars, then Maitreya — with her current 11 pillars — is the strongest among her peers. ’I wonder whether this is good or bad news.’

Strength means she can protect herself, and maybe even become the leader of a temporary alliance of New Saints. However, there is also the issue of jealousy, resentment, plotting, and perhaps even targeting from the Old Saints. Although they were on the same side, Wang Wei did not believe for a second that these people would not try to kill or plot against each other.

’The Infinite Divine Court is an elite army bound together by their dedication to the Highest Sovereign. Meanwhile, we are just a ragtag group of people forced to work together by Grand Dao. If this mission were not just an attack on one base, I doubt we would stand a chance.’ All signs indicate this mission will face countless problems. Wang Wei sighed to himself before briefly observing the beings above.

He recognized a few — at least, he thinks he does. The symbol of the book with infinite pages should be the Erudite Duchess. The Bubbles with visions that reminded him of dreams should be the True Dream Lord, who has been plotting against Dong Lifen. The circles with the characters for essence, spirit, and qi should represent the Trinity Venerable that has plagued the existence of Wang Wei’s three ancestors. As for the broken sword, the thread of karma, and the river of blood, Wang Wei didn’t know who they represented.

’Karma,’ Wang Wei thought as an idea flashed in his mind. However, he controlled himself and said nothing. ’Six Tribunal Saint — is that the total number in the Chaos Universe, or just the ones participating in this mission? No, there are probably more. There could be even more partaking in this mission, but chose not to reveal themselves.’

Just as he was deep in thought, Wang Wei noticed the atmosphere had changed. Even Maitreya’s reaction seemed odd, so Wang Wei glanced over. A man with deep back hair and eyes, wearing a black robe, had arrived. Wang Wei immediately found him familiar, but he couldn’t instantly recognize how. But from everybody’s reaction, this person seems famous, or maybe, infamous.

’That’s Death Reverence,’ Maitreya said through divine sense, and Wang Wei glanced at her. ’Don’t worry, I’m protecting our communication.’

’Why is everybody’s reaction so intense?’

’No matter, like to deal with a madman of unknown background,’ Maitreya explained. ’Especially one that is strong.’

’How strong are we talking about?’

’He’s hiding his information, so I don’t know for sure. But based on the fact I feel a bit of a threat, at least nine pillars — or, he has an unknown trump card.’

’Nine pillars? Wasn’t Death Reverence sanctified from an incomplete method?’

’That’s one of the things puzzling me,’ Maitreya revealed. She knew that without Wang Wei and Wu Hong feeding her ideas and the help of the exchange list, there was no way she could have recovered to 11 pillars. Based on the information she gathered before this expedition, the highest level among her peers was seven pillars. Yet, Death Reverence is an anomaly.

’Why did Grand Dao invite this unstable factor?’ Wang Wei groaned.

’Maybe because he’s unstable.’

Wang Wei could understand Grand Dao’s thought process: send an unstable factor such as Death Reverence into a chaotic situation, and he’ll probably reveal more information. No, not probably, he’ll have to if he doesn’t want to die. Then, she’ll finally know how to deal with him. Unfortunately, while this approach was the best move for Grand Dao, it was a nightmare for someone like him, forced into this maelstrom of transcendent beings.

’You should be careful,’ Maitreya said.

’You don’t think he would target me because of the destruction of the Corpse Selling Sect, right?’

’I don’t know, but you can never be too careful against such a madman — especially one as fanatic as him.’

Wang Wei sighed. ’You know what? I’m starting to think exile might not be such a bad thing.’

No one would believe these words. Look at the Infinite Divine Court. Without a doubt, they are one of the most powerful forces in the Chaos Universe — including all the infinite timelines. Yet, they are doing everything within their power to enter or return to the Primordial Timeline — all because only in this place can they achieve True Transcendence. If Wang Wei accepted exile, one day, he would have no choice but to walk the same path as the Highest Sovereign. And knowing what he’s capable of, Grand Dao would be even more persistent in preventing his return.

Upper Layer of the Terminus Heaven:

"The younger self of that being who is looming over the upper side of the River of Time," the Slaughter Ancestor said. "He is so weak."

"What? Tempted to crush him and feel a sense of superiority?" True Dream Lord asked.

"A bit. If I could kill such a being, even if it’s just his weak self, my Dao would take a major step forward.’

’Go for it. No one is stopping you,’ the Erudite Duchess said. The Slaughter Ancestor ignored her. No one who can reach their level is stupid. He was just using this topic to initiate a conversation.

"Do you think the rumors that he has countless Time Nexus is true?" the Trinity Venerable asked.

"Probably not." By the time someone reaches their level, they have only one Time Nexus, and it’s very detailed. Without killing them on a specific day and at a specific time within a few minutes’ window, it’s impossible to kill them. According to their predictions, Grand Dao Saints are even scarier. Their past selves must be killed down to the exact seconds.

"But where did the rumors come from?" The Primordial Heaven Sword Saint asked. As the saying goes, where there is smoke, there is fire. Such a rumor about an exalted being would not have spread so far and wide without a reason.

"Does it matter?" Karma Root Monarch commented. "If it’s true, it means that the being has remained alive despite countless beings trying to kill him. Can you imagine how terrifying that is?"

Everybody knew he was right. If news about their Time Nexus was revealed and many people dedicated to attacking them, they understood how terrifying that would be. But if they had more than one Time Nexus and the news spread, the chances of surviving would be abysmal.
