Chapter 1985: The World's Situation IV: The Foreign Invasion
"Hold on," Wang Wei said. "If you guys had such a massive victory, why aren't you happier? Why is the situation so tense?"
"Because the Divine Court successfully regained ground," Li Ming said.
"They rebuilt the black dome?"
"In a manner of speaking," Qiyuan replied.
"I'm not follow — wait, did they escape the Hong Protective System?"
Qiyuan sighed. "That's right. They left the Eternal Ascension World and successfully built a few domes in other Chaos Worlds."
Wang Wei frowned. "How did they leave?" As far as he was concerned, the Hong Protective System was still operational. So, unless the Heavenly Court had repaired the system after its destruction, things didn't add up.
"Through the Source Qi Space," Yan Hai explained. "The worst part is they've somehow found a way to navigate through it."
"Isn't that virtually impossible?" Wang Wei asked. Navigating using the Source Qi Space is a nightmare. Most people rely on luck to find another world through it, and that includes Saints. Wang Wei realized the Grand Dao designed it as such to prevent people from using it. The River of Time exists and is easily navigable because it serves as a mode of transportation. Meanwhile, the Source Qi exists only to provide cultivation resources to every world; their connection exists to facilitate easier management.
"We thought so too," Wang Chong sighed. "But not only did they succeed, but these bastards also shared their methods with foreign factions, which have been using them to enter our world and cause a lot of chaos."
"Surely the Source Cardinal would have stopped this? Oh, right, she was on the expedition. But there must have been someone else in charge? Couldn't they do something?"
"What can you expect from these useless people?" Yan Hai sneered.
"We tried using Heavenly Dao to contact them, but there was no response," Qiyuan added. "In hindsight, they were probably also dealing with the Beyonder's issue."
"So, how did you solve this issue?"
"I couldn't solve it; I could only mitigate the effect," Qiyuan replied. "I built military bases in the Source Qi Space to deal with any invaders. The Hong Protective System had some effect in the Source Qi Space, so I worked with Heavenly Dao to boost that aspect.
"I used the destiny of the entire world and the help of the Celestial Race to create the Luck Scout Legion. Your friend, Xi Shangyan, became a Primal and the Legion Leader. With their help, the court can accidentally discover foreigners entering our world at a high rate. Finally, with Heavenly Dao's help, I modified the origin of the world to add an Order-Disorder to prevent Saints from entering."
Wang Wei nodded. In that situation, he might not have done much better.
"Luckily, we survived the chaos long enough until Wu Hong returned. Then, I was able to execute a plan that I couldn't before: temporarily isolating the Eternal Ascension World from the Source Qi Space."
"I'm guessing people were not happy about that?" Isolating means less Dao Qi in the environment, which means fewer resources for cultivation. The Heavenly Court had already monopolized all the resources, forcing the loose cultivators to the brink. And now, with this stunt, Wang Wei could imagine how irate many were.
"That's an understatement," Li Ming said, nodding. "But with Wu Hong's overwhelming strength, they had no choice but to accept."
Wang Wei nodded. All cultivators understand only one language: strength. "So, what happened next?"
"That's it. The foreign invasion is the last major event that occurred," Wang Chong replied.
"Then, what's the current situation?"
"Everything is calm," Qiyuan said. "The court has been calm for a while now. In fact, their last large-scale movement was when they tried to stop us from isolating the world. However, even that attack seemed more like a test."
"So, everybody is experiencing the calm before the chaos?"
"Pretty much."
"I see. What about the other Overlords — what has happened to them?"
Wang Chong smiled. "The Grand Sect Alliance is finally gone."
"You guys killed the Beast King?"
"We technically didn't kill him; he died in Cui Yi's hands," Qiyuan said, which made Wang Wei roll his eyes.
"What did you do to their faction?"
"They broke apart into smaller groups, some of which became our subsidiary. Your friend, Chu Luo, we selected him to be their leader."
"Oh?"
"He's quite the talent," Yan Hai added. "With his merit from the war and a bit of help from the Nurture Core you left behind, he became a Primal. So, when we were selecting people to lead the subsidiary, he offered his services, and ultimately, we selected him."
"I can't believe he caught up. Good for him," Wang Wei stated. The last time he heard from Chu Luo, his situation wasn't ideal. After missing the Mortalhood Trial, Wang Wei thought he would only shine after the Transcendence Age.
"It's rare to have a cultivator who is truly filial," Li Ming added. "We made the right choice."
Wang Wei nodded.
"Not long after you left, the Myriad Clan Union started internal strife," Qiyuan continued. "Ye Guang did not waste a single moment before beginning to take power. And without Wang Guo and Xiao Wenque, his actions were effortless, with little to no resistance. Then, right before the Dome's Fall, two Primals appeared."
"Huo Fenghuang is one of them, isn't she?" Wang Wei asked.
"Yes, and the most powerful of your generation."
"Oh?"
"She has already completed two Saint Foundations and caught up to our generation."
"I'm not surprised at all," Wang Wei said, nodding. In his generation, Chu Luo might have been the most talented after him, but Huo Fenghuang was the hardest worker; she was the most devoted to the Dao and the most ambitious.
"Who is the second one?"
"It's someone from the other Wang Clan. His name is Wang Fuxuan," Wang Chong said.
"Him?" Wang Wei remembered him from when he accompanied Huo Fenghuang when she visited to buy tickets for the Mortalhood Trial. He even predicted he'd become a Primal, but he never thought it would be so soon. "The pressure must have pushed him to tap into his true potential," Wang Wei thought.
"That lad is not bad."
"Right before Wu Hong returned, the two of them worked together to kick Ye Guang out of the union," Qiyuan continued.
"Did that old fox create his own power, or did he join someone else?"
"He joined the demon race."
"Wise move," Wang Wei commented. The New Age was about to arrive, so starting a new faction would be foolish. The best choice was to join an already powerful, established one and then take power from the inside.
"I suddenly feel bad for Wang Guo," Wang Wei said, laughing. "He went through all that trouble to deal with Xiao Wenque, and now, there is someone else even fiercer standing in his way."
"You don't think he can deal with Huo Fenghuang?" Li Ming asked.
"No, I don't. I doubt he would have survived the expedition intact, and even with merit, it will take him a while to return to his peak. By then, Huo Fenghuang will already have become a Quasi-Saint and even condensed her third Saint Foundation.
"So, even if he teamed up with Wang Fuxuan, at best, he'll only achieve a stalemate. His only other option is to use his new connection." According to Wang Wei's divination, Wang Guo survived only because he befriended someone with a powerful background in the Longevity Realm. However, he didn't know the full extent of that connection.
"He may not even be capable of allying with Wang Fuxuan," Yan Hai added.
"What do you mean?"
"From what we know, the two of them became closer while surviving Ye Guang's schemes."
"They're Dao partners?"
"There is no confirmation, but we know for sure that Wang Fuxuan is madly obsessed with Huo Fenghuang."
"Hmm, I never thought she'd choose someone like him," Wang Wei thought. Huo Fenghuang values bloodline above all. In the past, someone of Wang Fuxuan's talent and the Wang Clan Bloodline would have met her requirements, but Wang Wei didn't think it was the case now. With the appearance of these Saint Lineages and Bloodlines in the Mortalhood Trial, he thought if Huo Fenghuang ever chose to marry, it would be someone of that caliber.
"It hasn't been confirmed, but their relationship is indeed strong," Qiyuan said.
"Strong enough to have him break his bloodline ties?"
"It's hard to say. Wang Guo has long stopped using his methods of taking over descendants' bodies to revive, but he's not like our clan, which fosters every talent without restraint. So, while he's highly respected in their clan, he's also known for being power-hungry and controlling. It wouldn't be out of this world if Wang Fuxuan decided to rebel, or at the very least, choose not to help him."
"Well, as the saying goes, you reap what you sow," Wang Wei said. "Anyway, it doesn't matter since he'll have to join us after I sanctify. The Union can be controlled by Huo Fenghuang."
