Chapter 1990: A Reunion of Allies I: Mongke & Dulgun
Chapter 1990: A Reunion of Allies I: Mongke & Dulgun
"Is that all?" Wang Wei asked.
"One last thing, sir," Red Mask replied. "Wang Ju sent news: she has expanded our network as far as her current ability will allow. She's ready to return home."
"Tell her I'll come see her in a while." After entering his cultivation reaches the limit — which only requires the Quasi-Saint Realm, Supreme Dao Will, and the Saint Embryo — he'll need to leave the Eternal Ascension World to find his parents. Once that's done, his spiritual cultivation will be perfect, and Wang Wei can sanctify. On his way, he can meet Wang Ju and use her help.
"As you wish."
"Give me the full report." Wang Ju reported only what she felt was important, but much more had happened while Wang Wei was away. After hearing those words, she handed him a talisman with more detailed information.
"We still have eyes on Hong Wa's situation?"
"Yes. We've kept close eyes on her."
"Bring her back quietly. In the process, if you find the Qin Court spies looking for her, capture them."
"Yes, sir."
"And intensify your efforts to find how the Divine Court has been navigating through the Source Qi Realm."
"I'll take charge of this personally."
"Good." Wang Wei waved his hand, and Red Mask entered his shadow and disappeared.
"Who do you want to see first?" Wang Qi asked.
"Bring Mongke and his wife."
While Wang Qi flew away, Wang Wei began setting the meeting place. His garden had a small pavilion that fit perfectly with the surrounding flowers. With a snap of his fingers, he moved the pavilion over the Fate River, along with the path leading to it. Then he stood with his back straight, waiting for his guest.
Two minutes later. Mongke walked toward him, wearing a simple black traditional Mongolian robe that somehow magnified his towering presence and noble status. Dulgun walked beside him in full regalia, wearing a lavish headdress.
Wang Wei smiled. "Is it me or did you get taller?"
"That giant bloodline has been acting up lately," Mongke replied, then gave Wang Wei a massive bear hug.
"And you, Madam Dulgun, you're as beautiful, powerful, and dignified as ever." Wang Wei was slightly surprised when he sensed the uncontrollable aura of three Ultimate Skills from her, meaning she was a Primal.
"Lord Wang, are you trying to charm me?"
"I wouldn't dare. Now, come, sit. I apologize that my main body couldn't be present."
"There is no need for all the formality," Mongke said, waving his hand.
"That's more like it. Do you guys want wine or tea?"
"Do you have wine from the expedition? I've never tasted food from other timelines."
"Of course. I think I have something perfect for you. Madam?"
"I'll have tea, preferably something from your expedition as well."
"No problem." The Origin Chaos World had many strong wines for people with high bloodlines, and Wang Wei thought Mongke would appreciate them. As for tea? Wang Wei used something that his wife created during the Omni Cube Trial.
"Damn," Mongke uttered after one sip. The taste was heavenly, and he immediately felt his bloodline being rapidly purified. At this point in his cultivation journey, he thought he had dug every potential in his bloodline, but now, he understood how wrong he was.
"You're the Khan; you need to watch how you beh…umm." Dulgun didn't finish her words when she accidentally released a soft moan. She couldn't help it. As soon as the tea entered her system, her mind was cleared, her soul strengthened — which allowed her to control her aura instantly — and more importantly, she entered a state of harmony with Heaven and Earth. Dulgun felt this was an opportunity and immediately closed her eyes to create more Ultimate Techniques.
"Don't waste your time on that. Use this opportunity to master one of the Grand Constructs," Wang Wei said, and she immediately realized he was correct. Techniques are easy to create, but mastering the constructs takes time, effort, and talent. The ideal way to use this opportunity was to use it on them.
"Thank you," Mongke said, pointing a finger to isolate the surrounding space and keep anything from interfering with his wife's epiphany.
"Don't mention it," Wang Wei said. "So, how have things been with you?"
"Great. Intense and a lot of stress, but ultimately, great."
"Of course it's been great. You have plenty of wives to keep your bed warm."
"Don't mention this," Mongke said, sneaking a few glances at his wife.
"I'm guessing she runs a strict harem, huh?"
"That's an understatement. Regardless, I appreciate it." All these marriages were political, with no love involved. As such, he was glad to have someone like Dulgun reducing the number of headaches he had to face. "Let's not mention me. I came here for a few things, one of which is to get some information on what happened on the expedition."
Everyone wanted to know what had happened; why did millions of people leave for the expedition, but only a handful returned? Wang Wei didn't hesitate to condense the information into a talisman. Although it wasn't as detailed or as extensive as his account to his wife or the one he gave to the sect, it was still enough for Mongke to understand what happened and analyze its future ramifications.
Mongke sighed deeply. "The world is changing too rapidly." He had been proud to become an A-Class Primal in such a short time, but after reviewing this talisman, he realized how little time he had. The New Age was coming faster than he had anticipated.
"Any chance you'd be able to sell me some of the cultivation techniques you've acquired from the Chaos Origin Realm?"
"Yes, but you have to negotiate the price with the sect. And you have to wait after the sermon."
"That's fine by me." Although Mongke knew he'd have to pay a steep price, he appreciated the fact that Wang Wei was willing to help him in the first place. Plus, the price the Barbarian Race would have to pay to acquire similar knowledge from the Golden Merit Scroll is nothing compared to whatever price the Dao Opening Sect will ask.
Mongke felt a lot lighter now that his main objective had been concluded. With a relaxed mood, he drank even more. "Check this out."
"What's this?" Wang Wei said as she took a booklet titled Great Wisdom Sutra. "You completed it?" Years ago, Mongke was obsessed with becoming an [Anomalous Talent], and he thought of creating a technique that would give him the wisdom and intelligence of a Dao Overlord.
"Yes, and I want your input — especially on the later chapters."
Wang Wei flipped through the technique. Mongke drew heavily on Buddhism, but the general idea is to use knowledge, spiritual practice, and Dao Heart Refining to modify the soul, spirit, and brain to increase intelligence and wisdom. In the Middle Chapters, cultivators must slowly eradicate the Cognitive Blockages the environment, society, and, eventually, the Grand Dao place on them.
Unfortunately, this technique has a flaw. The Cognitive Blockage cannot be perfectly removed unless someone passes the Outlaw Trial. Technically, Mongke found a way in the later chapters: he created a method to artificially summon the Outlaw Trial, and after passing it, cultivating the Great Wisdom Sutra will be complete. Moreover, the trial must be like the one in the lower dimension, without illusions.
"You don't want to experience the Outlaw Trial?"
"No, I don't. I was hoping you could give me some inspiration." The more Mongke learned about the Outlaw Trial, the less he wanted to try. With his current cultivation level, such a trial would involve Saints. And since learning about the trial raised the difficulty, he couldn't fathom what level of power would be involved.
"You could try to limit your wisdom."
"Like the people who limit their Outlaw Dao?"
"Yes. The trial exists to limit highly intelligent people who control highly potent Daos. But if someone limits their Dao, they can pass the trial; you can probably do the same for this technique. Create a Book of Wisdom that, upon activation, breaks the final barrier of the Cognition Blockage and provides access to the wisdom of a Dao Overlord."
Mongke frowned. "Is there no other way?"
"If you want a perfect solution, the only one is to become a Saint, and then cultivate the final chapter. But I don't think that approach will have as good an effect as cultivating it in the [Immortal Realm]."
"...What if I follow the example of the upper dimension trial? But instead of using illusion, I create an internal Spiritual World capable of recreating Heavenly Dao perfectly, and take the tests inside."
"Then, you'd have the wisdom while inside the spiritual world, but as soon as you open your eyes, the blockage will still exist — unless you could recreate Grand Dao's power itself."
"Yes, but I can still use the Internal World to analyze issues in the outside world and create feasible plans."
"That's just another form of limitation. Instead, you just replaced —"
"The Book of Wisdom for the Internal World," Mongke said, sighing deeply. "Forget it; it seems there is no shortcut for this technique. Either I risk it, or I accept the limitations."
"Unfortunately."
Mongke didn't want to decide right now, so he changed the subject: "I have something I'd like to ask for your advice."
