Chapter 2706: Twelve Universal Deities

That question had been on Zu An’s mind for a long time. The Cultivation World lacked information about the Myriad Worlds, and Mi Li had been ambiguous about it. I hope that the Universal Conglomerate won’t disappoint me.

Employee 9527 was startled, not expecting the question. He remarked, “Most people in the Myriad Worlds avoid discussing the universal deities, fearing it will bring disaster. However, our Universal Conglomerate deals with intelligence as well. We have the Deity of Order’s protection and the other universal deities’ tacit approval. We have permission to talk about them.”

Zu An was awed. The Universal Conglomerate was able to obtain the tacit approval of the universal deities? They're stronger than I thought.

“This piece of information should have been worth a huge fortune, far beyond what most people can afford. I feel like I’m taking a huge loss here.” Employee 9527 felt deflated.

Zu An smiled. “It’s my fortune to befriend you.”

Employee 9527’s awful complexion finally alleviated. This business could be worthwhile if he could earn the friendship of a future top expert. With this thought in mind, he began speaking, “There are thirteen universal deities logged in our records. It’s possible some universal deities might have passed away, and it’s also possible for there to be universal deities that we aren’t aware about. The Myriad Worlds are a huge place, after all.”

“I’d love to hear about them.” Zu An pricked up his ears.

Employee 9527’s expression turned solemn. He took out a small table and placed all kinds of offerings on it.

Zu An was surprised. This resembles some of the rituals recorded in the Baopu Sutra.

Employee 9527 took out an artifact and waved it around Zu An and himself. A peculiar melody played, and droplets of water began falling out of nowhere.

Zu An felt revitalized, as if he had been cleansed inside out. He was surprised. This must be some kind of sacred water or spirit spring water with the power to purge evil. It must have been worth a fortune.

Employee 9527 took out three incense sticks, which automatically lit up without him doing anything. He first prayed to the void before passing the incense to Zu An. “From my mouth to your ears, whatever I tell you today must never reach a third person’s ears, or else you’ll bring calamity upon yourself.”

“Of course!” By now, Zu An understood that secrets had value in the Myriad Worlds, and they could bring danger upon one too. He followed the other party’s instructions, taking the three incense sticks, praying to the void, and placing them on the table.

When he saw that the incense sticks didn’t go out, Employee 9527 breathed a sigh of relief. He began speaking, “First, there is the Deity of Memory, who records all information in the Myriad Worlds. There is a divergence among his worshipers. Some believe in only recording important figures, items, and events; anything else is a waste of time and effort. In any case, the Deity of Memory’s worshipers boast the widest span of knowledge and intelligence in the Myriad Worlds, with some of them knowing as much or even more than the Universal Conglomerate.”

Zu An nodded. The Mirror Scribe he'd met, Unblind Zuoqiu, worshiped the Deity of Memory, and had given him the invitation to Dreamland.

“There’s also the Deity of Chaos and Enigma. This deity...” Employee 9527 briefly paused to contemplate how to word his statement. “This deity’s jurisdiction appears to overlap with the Deity of Memory, but they are the opposite of each other.

“The Deity of Memory’s worshipers seek to record events happening in the Myriad Worlds, whereas the Deity of Chaos and Enigma’s worshipers seek to corrupt... Cough cough, I mean, alter events. There are many things now for which we don’t know whether they have truly happened or have been altered.”

The corners of Zu An’s lips slowly crept upward. Looks like my universal deity is quite the troublemaker. He had unintentionally carried out the duties of a Time Scribe, and he realized that his universal deity was very misunderstood.

Often, there wasn’t a clear distinction between truths and lies. Sometimes, beautiful lies were much better than harsh truths. Until the dust settled, it was possible to switch the truth with a lie.

“Naturally, the Deity of Memory’s worshipers and Deity of Chaos and Enigma’s worshipers are nemeses.” Employee 9527 appeared to be holding himself back. “The Deity of Chaos and Enigma’s worshipers are often madmen or lunatics. They act without rhyme or reason, so we, the Deity of Order’s worshipers, are on bad terms with them too.

“You should steer clear if you ever encounter one, or else it could lead to endless trouble. Fortunately, the Deity of Chaos and Enigma has very few worshipers, so it’s unlikely you’ll ever meet one.”

Zu An’s eyebrows shot up. He hadn’t expected his universal deity to have such poor reputation, such that even her worshipers were practically outcasts in the Myriad Worlds. It’ll be a huge mess if Employee 9527 ever learns about my identity.

Employee 9527 suddenly asked out of curiosity, “I’m guessing you’re curious about the universal deities because you have encountered their powers. May I know what deity you worship?”

Zu An was briefly stunned. But his brain whirred to action, and he quickly replied, “I am the Deity of Memory’s worshiper.”

That Time Scribe had been impersonating a Mirror Scribe. It must be pretty common for Time Scribes to disguise themselves as Mirror Scribes.

Employee 9527 was surprised. “I didn’t expect you to be the Deity of Memory’s worshiper. We might be able to trade information in the future.”

“Of course,” Zu An replied. I bet you’ll have the most interesting look on your face when you discover my identity in the future.

Employee 9527 continued, “Our conglomerate worships the Deity of Order. Order is necessary in the Myriad Worlds, or else there’ll only be slaughter and calamities.”

Zu An nodded in agreement.

“Speaking of calamities, there is the Deity of Annihilation. He believes that civilizations, people, and all living beings are the scourge of the Myriad Worlds, depleting its essence. His worshipers seek to bring annihilation upon everything. Needless to say, they are widely feared in the Myriad Worlds.”

“I have encountered his worshipers in the past,” Zu An replied grimly. “May I know the name of the Deity of Annihilation? What powerful entities are there under him?”

The more information he gathered, the more prepared he would be to deal with the Deity of Annihilation.

Employee 9527 shook his head. “The ritual grants us some level of immunity, but mentioning their names will still draw their gazes. That could spell the end of us.”

“I was too reckless.” Zu An was startled. So the Universal Conglomerate is fearful of this too.

“If you want information about the Deity of Annihilation, that will count as the second question,” Employee 9527 said with a smile.

“It’s fine. I’ll investigate it myself in the future.” Zu An had better questions to ask than to squander this precious opportunity. There was still time anyway.

Regret flickered through Employee 9527’s eyes. “Let’s resume our topic. Next is the Deity of Nebula. Little is known about him, for those who seek to understand him will be assimilated and lose all feelings, becoming one with the nebula.”

“In a way, he is more mysterious than the Deity of Chaos and Enigma, and he has very few worshipers. Some speculate that the Deity of Nebula is either the origin or the end of the Myriad Worlds. He is omnipresent, yet no one has ever seen him.”

Zu An heart shuddered. This resembled the universal deity whom Yan Xuehen had come into contact with.

“What if one becomes his worshiper?”

Employee 9527 grimly replied, “That’s not a good thing. His worshipers can gain tremendous power, but they lose everything in the end. That’s why no one wishes to embark on that path. Almost all worshipers of the Deity of Nebula stumble into that path by accident, but by then, it is already too late for them to back out. They are doomed.”
