Chapter 2722: Verge of Death

Chapter 2722: Verge of Death

The birdman laughed. “What nonsense! Fighting is all about winning. Only fools would insist on fighting against their enemy’s strengths instead of exploiting their weaknesses.”

Firework was rendered speechless. There were many places in the Myriad Worlds that practiced the law of the jungle, where the winner took all. There was nothing wrong with what the birdman had said.

Nevertheless, she was still angry because these bastards were using her to threaten Zu An.

The birdman snorted, “Yes, continue watching me with that look of disdain. I want those eyes on me when I’m playing with you later.”

Firework and the onlookers were stunned.

Even the fatty was vexed. “Stop rambling, or else I’ll snip off your dick!”

The birdman felt a chill between his legs, knowing his thick-headed fourth brother wouldn’t hesitate to do what he said.

Zu An keenly sensed his lapse in attention and exploited the opportunity to charge out of their encirclement. He circled behind the birdman and used Hundredwarble’s mental attack.

Piercing pain assaulted the birdman’s head. He screeched in agony as he tried to escape in a fluster, knowing a follow-up attack was coming, but he was still a step too late. Zu An was already swinging the Tai’e Sword at his neck.

“Audacious!” The Fire Knight had been keenly watching the battle from the side. There was no way he would give Zu An the chance to kill another one of his companions. He quickly conjured a fire lance and hurled it out.

He intentionally avoided the vitals as he was worried Zu An would use the position swap skill, but the fire lance was still strong enough to stop Zu An’s sword. That would no doubtbuy enough time for them to launch a decisive attack to kill Zu An off.

“What you lookin’ at?”

“I’m looking at you, shithead!”

The exchange left everyone in the warehouse baffled. It was beyond their imagination why those two would suddenly exchange jabs.

Fire Knight was dumbfounded, too. He had no idea why he had blurted out a response at this critical moment, causing him to be a split second late in rescuing his third brother.

“Shit!”

But he quickly noticed Number Four charging at Zu An with his giant scissors, and that made him heave a sigh of relief. He might have stopped me for an instant, but he won’t be able to stop Number Four.

“Be careful of his soulspeak!” Fearing his words would be relayed too slowly, Fire Knight chose to inform his companions via telepathy instead.

The fatty nodded in response. As long as he rescued Number Three, they would be able to overcome this crisis and slowly turn the tides on Zu An. But the next moment, he suddenly lost track of Zu An’s whereabouts.

Fire Knight’s anxious voice echoed in his head, “Be careful!”

Alarmed, the fatty quickly pulled back his scissors to protect himself. He figured that Zu An would resort to the sure-kill dagger to bring him down.

His armor was crafted out of 81 layers of his shed skin; its thickness wasn't to be scoffed at. Even if Zu An plunged his dagger into the armor, it wouldn’t reach his flesh. Instead, that would be an opportunity for him to snip off Zu An’s head, or at least cripple him.

But what happened next threw him off guard. Zu An didn’t switch to his sure-kill dagger, but instead continued attacking with his sword.

The fatty's abrupt switch from offense to defense and his lapse in judgment ultimately created an opening. Right before he could close his scissors, the Tai’e Sword slipped in and stabbed him.

Pu!

Blood spurted out, but it immediately froze into a flower. It was the Snowflake Sword, paired with the Snow Phoenix’s ability! Zu An’s recent exchanges with Yan Xuehen had helped him fully comprehend the essence of frost, allowing him to completely encase the fatty in ice in an instant.

In the next second, intense flames gushed. The Fire Knight’s intervention was on time, unlike before. He carefully controlled his fire to thaw his companion while avoiding further damage.

The fatty gasped for air, his body drenched in sweat. He knew how much of a close shave that had been. Despite his boss’ timely intervention, Zu An’s sword ki had still seeped into his body and suffused it with bone-piercing frost. Perhaps he'd survived that attack thanks to his thick layers of skin armor, but he'd lost his combat ability.

Meanwhile, Zu An quickly flitted out of the warehouse with Firework in hand. He'd chosen to wound the fatty instead of killing him to bait Fire Knight into intervening, thus gaining a chance to break free of the encirclement.

Fire Knight blazed with anger—literally. They'd had the decisive advantage, but somehow, Zu An had managed to kill one, wound one, and slip away.

“Big brother, that lad broke free of your spatial seal. He must be adept in spatial formations!” the birdman exclaimed.

“Shut up! I can see that.” Fire Knight’s eyes flickered in rage, but moments later, he chuckled. “Very well. This only makes the hunt more meaningful. The more secrets he holds, the greater the rewards we’ll reap from him. We’re in the middle of nowhere, and he isn’t strong enough to traverse space yet. He might be able to escape from the warehouses, but where can he go?”

“Our boss is wise!” The birdman fawned on Fire Knight.

Fire Knight ordered him, “Take care of Number Four and tie the others up. I’ll chase him.”

The birdman was taken aback. “Boss, that fellow is extremely sly...”

Fire Knight’s eyes turned cold. “Do you think I’d lose to him?”

“Of course not! Boss, I’m sure you’ll catch him without a hitch,” the birdman hurriedly changed his tone.

Fire Knight harrumphed. His wheelchair burst forth like a valiant steed to chase Zu An.

The earlier clashes had revealed that Zu An’s foundation was beneath his; it was just that the latter possessed bizarre skills that made him a tricky opponent. Not only had his comrades failed to be of help, but under the influence of those bizarre skills, they were even a hindrance.

That was why he chose to pursue Zu An alone.

Zu An flitted through the spaceship with Firework in his arm while searching for the escape pods Employee 9527 mentioned.

Firework stared at him with glowing eyes. “Big brother, you’re incredible. With your cunning schemes, you played those monsters like fools.”

It would take sharp combat sense and great intelligence to come up with such an intricate ploy in the middle of a battle.

“I was lucky they fell for my tricks twice. From this point on, things will only get harder,” Zu An replied.

Just then, he heard a whimper. He rammed down a door and saw Fluttering Baldie lying in the corner of the room, breathing shallowly. There was a gaping hole in the latter's chest, and blue blood covered his translucent body.

“What happened to you, Brother Baldie?” Zu An was taken aback. No wonder I didn’t see him despite the huge commotion earlier.
