Chapter 2890: Capture

Chapter 2890: Capture

“You ran away?” Zu An was confused. “Emperor Jun is the Celestial Emperor. Why are you running away from him?”

“Hmph! Do I have to fancy him just because he’s the Celestial Emperor?” Xihe snorted. “He’s just a lustful old man. Despite being the Celestial Emperor, that fellow has no dignity. He goes around flirting with women. Who knows how many women and children he has to date?

“The Lower Realm’s Zhongrong Country, Siyou Country, Baimin Country, Heichi Country... Those are all made up of his offspring. Why would I like a bastard who goes around sowing seeds?”

Zu An was speechless. I thought I was a philanderer, but Emperor Jun sowed entire nations. In comparison, I think I’m pretty pure-hearted. He’d have been perfect for the Reproduction path.

“Why did you get engaged to him in the first place?”

“Did you think I wanted to? He’s the Celestial Emperor. If he points his finger at a woman, even if the woman doesn’t want it, her clan will wrap her up and deliver her to him,” Xihe replied with a stifled voice.

Zu An frowned. “Your clansmen aren’t anything good. They’re sacrificing your happiness for their selfish motives.”

“They aren’t the worst,” Xihe replied. “They already rejected several advances from Emperor Jun on my behalf, but this time, Emperor Jun is offering to wed me as his lawful wife. There aren’t many people in the world who could resist such an offer.”

Zu An could understand that. Emperor Jun was a philanderer, but most of the women he bedded were merely for fun; he had never officially wedded any of them. His wife was destined to become the Celestial Empress, and that position came with huge benefits.

“All women in the world must be jealous of you, but you escaped from the ceremony.” Zu An was awed.

“I don’t want to marry just for the Celestial Empress’ position. My man must be an upstanding hero whom I like and admire from the bottom of my heart...” Xihe said with glimmering eyes, only to turn to Zu An and become deflated. “But I ended up with a fellow like you. Was the future me out of her mind?” This fellow is handsome, but he’s far from the radiant person I envisioned.

Zu An said, “...Love comes without rhyme or reason. Often, feelings are born out of nowhere and deepen before you realize them...”

He was reminded of the notes Chu Chuyan had left on her romance novels. Back then, he'd cringed at them, but some of their words struck a chord in him now.

“Pui. Stop pretending to be a love sage when you’re a philanderer as well.” Xihe clutched her forehead. She didn’t like Emperor Jun because of his philandering ways, but to think the man she fancied in the future would be the same as well. It felt as if she had desperately struggled, only to end up at square one... or even worse, since Emperor Jun was at least the Celestial Emperor.

Zu An wasn’t in the mood to debate with her. “Since it’s inconvenient for you to bring me to Emperor Jun, I’ll look for the Flame Emperor first.”

Gong Suyin might not be in this world yet, so I’ll look for Yaoji first.

Upon hearing that he was about to leave, Xihe panicked. “You’re leaving just like that?”

Zu An was stunned. “Do you want to tag along?”

“Pui!” Xihe clenched her jaws. This man wants me to accompany him in looking for his lovers? Does he have no shame?

“I guess we’ll have to part ways here then.” Zu An was anxious to look for Yaoji to verify some matters. He could then use the Nature Jade to transmigrate to the right moment in spacetime, so he wouldn’t have to waste his time here.

Watching as Zu An’s silhouette vanished into the distance, Xihe was first stunned before melancholy seeped through her being. Is that man really my future lover? That man knew so many of her personal secrets that she felt that there was some credibility to his words.

Despite her curt attitude, she was actually curious about him and wanted to know more about him. She hadn’t expected him to pay so little heed to her and leave just like that. Of course, she could tell that his feelings for the so-called Goddess of Wu Mountain were far deeper than for her. The notion that she would fall in love with a man with little concern for her filled her with profound sorrow. She had fled from a marriage with the Celestial Emperor in search of true love, only to end up with a man who hardly loved her. What’s the point of my struggling? I might as well just marry Emperor Jun...

Her eyes became wet. Tears fell from her cheeks like meteors, inducing volcanic eruptions below, but she was completely oblivious to that.

Moments later, someone shouted, “Xihe is here!”

Celestial guards riding on clouds swiftly surrounded Xihe. The devastation caused by her tears carried the aura of the Sun Goddess, so they quickly rushed over to capture her.

Xihe dried her tears before facing the celestial guards with a cold expression. “You came faster than I expected.”

How could one escape from a marriage with the Celestial Emperor so easily? It seems my actions have enraged Emperor Jun.

A nine-headed celestial general roared, “Xihe, where did you hide the Celestial Emperor?”

The other party was one of Emperor Jun’s Ten Fiend Generals—the Nine-Headed Bird, Guiche.

Xihe was stunned by the question. “I only fled from the marriage. What does that have to do with anything?”

“The Celestial Emperor disappeared right after you left. How can there be such a coincidence in the world?” Guiche scoffed.

Xihe’s face darkened. “How can anyone have the power to interfere with the almighty Celestial Emperor? Stop trying to frame me here!”

“Refusing to confess? Capture this demoness first! We’ll have her judged by the celestial gods!” Guiche waved its hand, and the celestial guards quickly encircled her.

Xihe sneered, “It just so happens I’m in a bad mood.”

The light around her suddenly intensified. Waves of searing flames rippled from her into the surroundings, forcing the celestial guards to anxiously retreat amid cries of agony.

Seeing that, Guiche didn’t dare to let its guard down. It revealed its true form, a gigantic nine-headed bird that engulfed the sky. Its heads screamed at Xihe, unleashing invisible sonic waves into the surroundings.

Xihe felt her mind suddenly becoming dull. She thought her soul was going to be jolted out of her body. In the meantime, countless Immortal Binding Ropes wrapped around her, binding her firmly in place.

Guiche specialized in soul attacks, and it was known for feasting on human souls. It sucked in many souls each time it opened its mouth. Xihe was powerful, but its ability curbed her. She was at a disadvantage against it.

Even so, due to her identity, Guiche didn’t dare hurt her. It captured her and ordered, “Bring her back to undergo divine retribution. She’ll speak the truth in due time.”

When Xihe first escaped from her marriage, she had been extremely scared of being captured and taken back. Yet, at this instant, she realized that she was nowhere as afraid as she thought she would be. Instead, her heart felt dead.

That fellow has left me anyway. I’m destined not to find love in my lifetime. I should just accept my position as the Celestial Empress.

I wonder if he’ll ever regret this decision when he learns about it in the future. Maybe not...

Just then, she heard a familiar voice. “Haa, why are you so careless?”
