Killed Me? Now I Have Your Power

Chapter 431 – Fucking crazy

Kaden and Rea didn’t move for a long while. Rea’s head was still on him, and the girl seemed rather unwilling, or unable, to move her head away.

Kaden didn’t say anything, his mind completely blank as he tried to grasp what had just happened.

It was unsettling to see the lips of the Alchemist creep into a strange smile without even knowing why. He was tempted to think that it was all just the Alchemist playing mind games with them... but Kaden didn’t want to underestimate a situation he shouldn’t.

He sighed wearily, feeling the heavy yet shallow breathing of Rea against his shoulder. Her breath was warm, yet hollow.

The memories of the death of the avatar of Einar summoned themselves inside his mind, and Kaden’s face cringed in shame.

"I am sorry." He whispered, breaking the religious silence.

Rea didn’t answer, making Kaden’s anxiousness peak dangerously. But then,

"She was the only one." Rea muttered, her voice strangely weak, "She was the only one who loved me in that place."

Kaden said nothing, knowing Rea wanted to vent rather than discuss with him.

"Yes... Kaden, Einar loved me. No matter, Kaden, how her love was heavy and strange, how her obsession with me always got the better of her... Einar always wanted me, and did everything she could for me."

She chuckled humorlessly. Kaden’s heart twisted at her words.

"I did threaten her, but she gave everything of her to me, and now she died for me, losing an important part of her power forever."

Kaden’s eyes were closed, listening to Rea talk about someone in such a heartfelt manner. It was only then that he realized the true importance of Einar for Rea.

Einar was not only the slave of Rea, just like how the two of them had thought before this event.

Einar was the only being that showed love to Rea in a place of unending sorrow. The one who could kill herself, and kill anyone, just to see Rea’s smile — no matter how hollow and twisted that smile would be.

In a strange, unexpected manner, Einar became the main component of the light in Rea’s bleak world of the Church.

The God-Touched only became aware of how much all of that meant to her now that the voice was no longer constantly chirping inside her mind, calling her "my beautiful Rea" every two seconds.

It was annoying, most of the time. Well... now she admitted that she missed it.

How strange it was, Kaden thought tiredly, that people only miss something — or realize the impact of that thing on themselves — only after they lose it.

And that, no matter how much they thought they were giving it enough attention.

That realization, and the words of Rea, made Kaden think of the relationship between him and Rea.

They were supposed to be fiancés, but Kaden realized that there was barely any relationship between them.

Even Einar seemed to be on a higher pedestal than he was.

At that, involuntarily, he began to feel a worm of jealousy slithering coldly inside his heart. And he couldn’t stop himself from speaking.

"Me or her?" He asked, his voice more tense than he wanted it to be. And he regretted it the instant he voiced his inner thoughts.

Rea’s body subtly trembled at the question, certainly not expecting it from Kaden and not, in addition, in the current situation.

A tense and strange silence swelled between them, but Kaden didn’t retract his words, neither did he repeat them.

Fortunately, Rea didn’t leave him hanging for too long.

"You," she said almost meekly, "are my fiancé."

"I know. But it doesn’t answer my question." He said. "I am sorry if it’s not the right moment, but I want to know."

"I don’t know." Rea said. "Einar has been with me for the past years. Her, and her alone. She has been with me, and looked over me more than you have done. She watched me grow and guided me the best she could. Of course, you cannot expect much from someone who knew only sorrow, but she did her best."

Rea paused, Kaden’s heart balled into a fist, then she continued.

"However," Rea lifted her head from Kaden’s shoulder, finally facing him again, looking at his handsome face with his stunning star-lit eyes, "you have been the one to first give me a direction to walk to. You might not know it, but you greatly influenced my decision to be the Saintess."

She tried to smile, but with her blackened trails of tears, she looked like nothing but a wraith.

Kaden disturbingly liked the sight.

"So I don’t know. Each one of you is important to me. And... I do not know who to choose."

Kaden paused at that for a couple of seconds, then smiled faintly.

"Well," he said, eyes twinkling a bit, "if that obsessive Einar is so important to you, then maybe I should be more gentle with her. Next time I see her, I shall give her compensation for this unfortunate event."

"Huh?" Rea exclaimed, surprised by his answer. Internally, guiltily, she had expected — and even wished — to see him jealous and angry.

She didn’t know why, but to her, that would have proven that Kaden felt something for her, and that she was not the only one all flustered every time he got too close.

But all he said was this, and Rea found herself getting internally cold, yet angry and irritated.

’What did I expect f—!’

"Why are you surprised?" Kaden tilted his head, confused. "Shouldn’t I care about the one being you care about?"

Rea sneered openly. "You just don’t care about me enough, that’s all."

Kaden’s face became even more puzzled. "Caring about you is the reason I try to care about Einar, idiot. If it were me, I would have ignored — or even killed — her for her love for you."

"Then do it."

"What?" Kaden’s eyes widened.

"I said," Rea scowled, "do it."

Kaden was silent for a heartbeat, locking his eyes into hers before passing a hand through his face in an exasperated manner.

"You are confusing me, bloody hell, Rea. You want me to kill Einar?"

"Not actually kill." Rea said in the same exasperated yet annoyed tone. "But you can try and let her go at the end. You can hurt her, but not kill."

"But why?"

"To show that you care about me." Rea almost shouted. "Isn’t it obvious?"

’No, it’s fucking not!’ Kaden wished to shout that, but instead he decided to be the bigger man.

He breathed, calming himself.

"Okay, let’s do this again." He whispered, looking at Rea staring at him as if he were a clueless idiot.

His lips twitched.

"Einar loves you."

"Yes."

"I am your fiancé."

"Yes."

"And you want me to kill — or rather hurt — Einar because of her love for you in order for me to show that I care about you. Am I getting it right?"

"Yes. Now was it difficult to understand?"

Kaden was speechless, looking at Rea as if she were mad. And indeed,

"You are fucking crazy."

Rea rolled her eyes. "Tell me something else I don’t know. Having a loud goddess inside your head does wonders."

"I can’t relate."

"I never asked you. The only simple thing I ask from you already seems too heavy for you."

"Would you kill or hurt someone because that someone loves me?"

Rea halted at that question, looking at him deeply with her ruby-red eyes tainted in black.

Next she smiled sweetly, but Kaden only felt a pang of bad feeling.

"I will kill them." She declared easily. "Just like I want you to kill for me, I will kill for you. You see, Kaden..."

She grasped his hand, still bloodied by the heart of the Alchemist, in both of hers.

"...I want that even if someone looks at me longer than one second, you gouge their eyes out. Because I will do the same. But don’t worry, I will only hurt them if they are important to you."

Kaden answered with silence.

’Sweetie... are you in danger?’ Blanche whispered worriedly.

Reditha only laughed, enjoying the situation. She always liked to see Kaden struggle in his relationships with women.

Kaden finally sighed, then, with a strained smile,

"Well, Rea, I’ve got news for you."
