Chapter 435 – Steady steps, trembling Heart
"What you need to do is simple," Shamsi said. "Let yourself go and welcome the memories of your past self. You know it, I know it. It’s inevitable."
Sora looked deeply into her before slowly, with defiance, batted away Shamsi’s hand from her shoulder.
The Sun Empress’s face momentarily twisted into confusion at the suddenness of the action before regaining her usual expression.
She watched her hand sway at her side, peeled her eyes from it, and rested them on Sora.
Golden Voice’s eyes were spitting golden fire.
"Don’t try to manipulate me, Shamsi," she growled, wisps of fire steaming out from her mouth like golden mist. "I know what you are. And I certainly know that you are not here for my own good."
The golden sea rippled, crashing waves erupting all over, threatening to drown everything.
"Tell me what you wish," Sora demanded, her voice regal and authoritative.
Shamsi was silent for a couple of seconds, looking into Sora’s eyes as if searching for something.
"Who said, sister, I want something?" the Sun Empress whispered.
"You take me for a fool?" Sora scoffed. "I might not have the whole memories of Lady Sora, but I know you. I know you won’t do anything that would not make you gain something out of it. So cut your gorydamn bullshit and tell me what you wish."
"I thought it was obvious?" She shrugged. "All I want is Aster to fall from his gilded throne."
"Or you mean you want the heart of Prometheus just like him." Sora smiled coldly. "Don’t think I don’t know how it ended. That, sister, I know at least."
Shamsi’s face darkened, her lips pressed into a thin line.
Sora took a courageous step forward, tired of always being on the defensive. Tired of always being the one used and manipulated.
She stood defiantly in front of Shamsi, holding her searing gaze, matching her in every aspect.
"You were killed by Prometheus," Golden Voice continued. "Is that why you wish to help me? In order for you to play just like the First Celestial and take away everything from me at the last second?"
Sora laughed without humor.
"I will be the one killing you, sister, if that’s the case."
"Are you that capable?" Shamsi cocked her head to the side, lips pulling into an empty smile. "Do you know who you have in front of you?"
"A bitch," Sora replied.
Shamsi’s face crunched into a look of disgust at the crude word.
But whatever she wanted to say stuck inside her mouth as Sora continued,
"And don’t forget where you are standing." She gestured around her. "You are in my consciousness, in my domain. I can kill you."
"At what cost?"
"I don’t care about the cost," she spat. "So speak. My patience is not infinite, Shamsi."
The Sun Empress grinned strangely. "You are indeed not like my original sister. You are more Asterion than her."
"I don’t care," Sora replied, eyes creased with impatience.
Shamsi’s grin disappeared before she spoke. "Prometheus did indeed kill me. But at the same time, he made it possible that I am still alive, my soul not taken by the Tree."
She halted briefly, making sure Sora followed, then continued, "I would not kill him. I have no intention to hurt him in any way. I do not even care about him."
"Not convinced," Sora said.
"I care about only one thing," Shamsi continued, raising her finger upward. "I wish to Ascend, Sora. And I cannot ascend as long as Aster, the First Celestial, is the Master of my Pathway and my bloodline."
Sora frowned. "And how am I supposed to be of help here?"
"We are twins, Sora," Shamsi said. "What do you think would happen if we become one?"
Sora’s eyes widened. "How? No, what? I will—!"
"Don’t be so fast to refuse," the Sun Empress interrupted her, raising a palm in front of her. Sora slapped away the palm irritably.
Shamsi ignored her rude act and continued, "It’s the only way to gain enough power to search for His corpse."
"Who?"
"Vesper Asterion, the Knower of Stars," Shamsi answered, her voice filled with unconcealed awe.
But Sora was not sharing her feelings. She was completely lost.
"Why would we search for his corpse, even?" she asked, more confused than angry now.
"What else?" Shamsi said, looking overhead at the disk-like sun, her mind traveling through an event from a distant past. "Because He is the Star of Freedom. And only through this Star can we get free from the First Celestial."
Sora’s heart skipped a beat.
Shamsi lowered her head back down, looking at Sora.
"So, sister?"
She stretched her hand out to her, smiling with hunger in her eyes.
"Are you ready to be free from your fate?"
...
Meanwhile, in the Underground Game of Freedom, Uncle Azad stood behind a big, scaled, humongous tree, watching from a distance a small sprawling city shaped like a roaring dragon.
He wore a black hood, and with shadows bleeding through the sky, his face was nothing but still darkness — impossible to see through.
However, his eyes were piercing the structure in front of him with eerie intensity, his mind churning in different directions.
All of them leading to one path. One end.
’They gave me no choice,’ he thought, sucking in a deep breath, feeling the damp cold air frost his chest.
In 2–3 hours, the shadow would be dispelled as the sun crawled back to its place.
Azad knew he had little time to do what he wanted to do. He knew it well, yet he couldn’t help but feel cold ice seeping deep into his stomach.
His body was subtly shaking, and it was not because of the cool air.
Closing his eyes to steady his breathing, Uncle Azad remembered why he was here in the first place.
Once he remembered why he was risking his life by intruding inside the territory of Order Draco, then he would be more willing to risk that life.
And the memories came all too easily, empowering him in a way no divine blessing would be able to do.
"There are few things a man should hold dear deep inside his heart," Azad muttered as he walked toward Order Draco with steady steps, remembering the words of his brother when he was dying inside his arms.
"And among these few things, Freedom holds the highest rank. And Honor holds the second highest one."
His steps now were heavy, crushing even, as if boulders were thundering on the earth with each of them.
"And as for me, Azad of Ghuzd, son of Bramim and brother of Sooh, my Freedom has been stolen, but my Honor is not. Not yet."
The world seemed to shake.
"And it’s time to uphold it."
It’s time... to bring you peace, friends.
...
Simultaneously, inside Order Draco, in the housing quarters, Keisha was standing in front of a green-scaled door, wearing a purple lavish dress.
She knocked upon it two times, then waited patiently. Her face was calm, but her heart was pounding as if the world was shaking.
She could feel it... this night would be special.
"How special?" she wondered. "Good or bad?"
That, she didn’t have time to ponder, as the door cracked open, the face of Cole peeking through the small gap.
Their eyes met, and Keisha brought out the brightest fake smile she could muster at that moment.
"Cole!" she chirped, her breasts too visible as she bowed softly. "It’s been a while! Will you invite me inside?"
She took out a bottle of red-tattooed wine from her space ring.
"Let’s talk about old times, shall we?"
