Chapter 349 – A Talk With A Friend

Cassius was quite speechless after Sarah’s words. He hadn’t expected them in the slightest, making him suddenly smile shyly.

"Ha-hahah." He chuckled, embarrassed by such compliments. "Is that really so?"

"Yes." Sarah said immediately, breaking the hug and now only resting her head on his shoulder. "I don’t know how you do it."

"Well, I don’t know either." He replied. "But what would you say is the reason if you had to give one?"

"If I had to?" She muttered, making a pensive expression with her tired face. "I would say you like conversations."

"Hm?"

"I read something recently in the Academy Library," she said. "It’s a book called The Belly of Eden. The author said something like: A great conversationalist makes you talk. And by making you talk, they make you discover things about yourself you didn’t know before. And the more you understand yourself, the greater your chance of becoming better than who you were."

"Oh, that’s an interesting way to put things." Cassius said with curiosity. "So I am someone who can make people talk, you say."

"You are, Cassius."

"Most likely because I am a talkative person myself." He laughed.

"You do love to talk." Sarah nodded with a small smile. "And you love to do it in a dramatic way most of the time."

"Is that you judging my personal style, Sarah?!" He said in a mock-outraged tone.

"I am not." She giggled. "I am just saying everything that comes to my mind."

"Dangerous thing. You might say something inappropriate."

"I will shut my mouth before that happens."

"Because you have something inappropriate to say? Who corrupted my Sarah, damn it!"

She giggled again. "I don’t have anything inappropriate to say about you, Cassius. But I have a lot to say about your uncle and sister-in-law."

"Look at this girl, she can’t even say their names anymore."

Sarah said nothing to that, only smiling sadly, a dull, numbing pain still echoing inside her.

After a moment of silence, Cassius broke it with his soft voice.

"Will you allow me to do something with your hair?"

"Hm?" Sarah exclaimed, lifting her head to stare at him. "My hair?"

"Yes." He smiled. "I have learned how to braid lately, and I would like to try it on you. Of course, it won’t be easy with your type of hair, but it should be doable. Do you want to try?"

"You...you don’t look very confident in your skills, Cassius?"

He smiled mischievously. "That’s why I am asking you. Come on, help a friend practice!"

"But my hair!"

"It’s fine, Sarah, we have plenty of potions in case I fuck up. And trust me, alright? I am a fast learner."

"...You are using me as a guinea pig before braiding Lady Isolde’s hair, aren’t you?"

He smiled. "You is smart. You is very good."

She smiled in turn. "You is bad. But you is friend, so me accept."

They looked at each other, then burst into laughter. A laughter that dispelled a bit of the darkness inside Sarah’s eyes.

Next, she sat down in front of Cassius on a makeshift chair created through his Blood Manipulation, her hair directly at his mercy.

And so he began, trying to figure out how to braid this type of hair without fucking it up.

Harder than he had initially thought.

At the same time, the two of them talked about anything and everything.

"What do you plan to do from now on?" Cassius asked, braiding her hair at the same time, making sure not to hurt her.

"I am not sure yet. But I want to work at the Library." She replied. "I think with my power, I can learn many things and be helpful to myself and to you, Cass. As you know, I have a perfect memory. I don’t forget anything no matter how much time passes."

"I think it suits you quite well." He nodded. "Having more knowledge and information will give you the ability to expand your awareness and possibilities."

"Yes. I think I certainly need something to fill my brain at the moment. So I will take reading as a Hobby."

"How are you doing with your rank advancement, though?"

"I can step into the Second Rank at any moment. I have four of my attributes reaching their limits."

"Are you waiting for something in particular, then?"

"No—! Ouch!" Sarah grimaced from the pain in her scalp, and Cassius smiled wryly and muttered,

"My bad."

"It’s...alright." She replied, blinking her eyes to ward away the pain. "I was saying, I am not waiting for anything. I just wanted to meet with your uncle before officially ranking up. Now that I have done it, I can rank up."

"Good, then. Do it as soon as possible. Having one more Skill would definitely help you. Especially with your power being in the domain of Memory...you are bound to be strong and special, Sarah."

She smiled faintly. "I hope so. I will do my best."

"That’s more than enough."

"And you?" Sarah said. "How have you been doing lately?"

"I am doing quite alright, thanks for asking." He replied. "I am about to go on a Mission with Meadow, William, and that girl, Diaila, then during that same period, complete a mission given to me by a goddess."

"That’s really great. Being with Meadow is fun. You never have to worry about food or artifacts."

"She is so rich it’s not even funny, Sarah, I swear."

"I know." She laughed. "But you said a mission from a goddess? Not the Queen?"

"She is a goddess the Queen knows." He replied, twisting her hair. "If I succeed, I will have one more Blessing upon me."

Sarah’s eyes widened slightly. "Really?" She said excitedly. "That’s really great! Then you will be even stronger!"

"Most likely, hahah."

"But then will I have to worship her?" She asked, a little confused. "My faith...is only in the Queen, you know. I can’t worship anyone else."

"You don’t have to. Worship the Queen, and the other members can also choose who they wish to worship."

"Alright, then. I will pray for you to succeed."

"Thanks. You don’t have a mission yet?"

"Not yet." She replied, before wincing as if remembering something painful. "I did have one, but I can no longer go on that mission. I will have to choose another one afterward."

"Alone?"

"Yeah."

"Don’t get yourself killed out there."

"Hahah, I won’t."

"Says the woman who was ready to let a carriage run into her."

Sarah’s lips twitched. "I was not going to die anyway. Only get wounded."

"That alone is enough to make me not trust your words."

"Hahah..." She laughed nervously, before shifting the subject. "When will you go to—!"

Sarah immediately closed her mouth when Cassius’s phone began to ring. He stopped braiding, pulled his phone out of his pocket, and arched an eyebrow.

He answered and put it on speaker. "Meadow, maybe you have a power that warns you when people gossip about you?"

"Oh, so you were indeed gossiping? Is that why I feel like the money in my bank account has decreased?"

"Which bank account?"

"I don’t know? I have too many to count."

"So you were lying." Cassius scoffed. "Shame on you."

"Yeah, I hold the power of Truth and I lie. Sue me! But sue yourself too because you taught me all of this!"

Cassius laughed, shaking his head. "Slandering me now? Well, tell me, how are you doing?"

"I am the one supposed to ask you that question." Meadow said, her voice slightly nervous now. "I saw Gossip Girl, Cass. What happened with Sarah?"

"A long story, Meadow." He replied, sparing a glance at Sarah. "A story that’s not mine to tell. If you want to know, you gotta ask Sarah herself."

"I was going to." She replied. "Which brings me to the second reason I called you. We are going on our mission in two days now. Things have changed."

"Two days? Alright. But it’s a mission you still haven’t told me what we are going to do."

"Officially," the young Tycoon said, "the mission is for us to protect the museum staff while they transport artifacts from their Museum to the Deathless Crusaders’ headquarters."

Cassius began to frown. "You said officially...I guess there is an unofficial part?"

"Yes." Meadow said, and Cassius could hear her grinning. "I received special information from my brother saying that one of the artifacts inside is something from MasterofPaths himself."

Without even needing to hear the rest, Cassius understood what they were going to do.

And indeed...

"So we are going to rob the museum and take the artifact of MasterofPaths, or even other items we manage to get."

"How are we going to rob them if we are supposed to protect them?" Cassius retorted right away. "We are going to be suspicious as hell."

"That’s why our Sect is here." Meadow grinned. "I guess you are with Sarah, aren’t you?"

Cassius looked at Sarah, who had been listening in silence all this time.

"I am." He replied.

"Hey, darling Sarah." Meadow said. "I don’t know what’s happening with you, but I guess a little thievery might do you some good?"

She paused, and Cassius saw Sarah slowly beginning to smile.

"What do you think about a Heist for a change of mind?"
