Chapter 393: Call of Justice
Chapter 393: Chapter 393: Call of Justice
Chapter 393 – Call of Justice
The Museum guards wasted little time on idle talk. Having witnessed the scale of destruction across their own domain firsthand, they knew instantly this was beyond anything they could handle alone.
Without much hesitation, they escorted Cassius, Meadow, Diaila, and William — the only survivors of the heist — back to the museum.
The captain of the guards, a short, plump woman with a hard expression, made it clear they’d need to be questioned about what had happened.
There was no getting around it. They had no other witnesses, and they wanted as much information as they could gather.
Cassius and his teammates didn’t object. Diaila and William had no reason to. They were entirely innocent.
Meadow and Cassius were confident their masks had kept them unrecognized. The only real risk was the Museum digging directly into their memories.
But who in the world would dare go through the memories of Meadow Wealth or Cassius Desdemona?
So they stayed calm and let themselves be led inside.
Once there, the captain assigned each of them a room, healing potions, food, and drink, telling them to wait. They needed the Council’s approval first before proceeding further.
Three hours had passed since then, and Cassius still found himself alone in a room that looked and smelled like it had been built thousands of years ago.
It was ancient, built from wood cracked all over yet somehow refusing to fall apart. The bed was the same, woven from straw.
Yet when he sat down on it, Cassius was surprised by how soft and comfortable it actually felt.
The only light in the room sat on a shelf: a lamp holding a blue flame that never flickered, not even the faintest waver.
The room felt oddly still, as though no air moved through it at all. Cassius found that strangely fascinating.
Finally, after hours of ignoring the urge to rest, he sighed in defeat and glanced up at the ceiling, and found a strange creature blinking down at him with hawkish eyes.
Its skin, slimy and black, held three eyes lined up in a row, pupils glowing a blinding green. No tail, standing on four legs, each limb looking as though it belonged to an entirely different animal.
None of them matched.
Cassius studied its eyes and caught a flicker of intelligence behind them.
"Hello?" he said, testing the creature. He doubted the Museum was foolish enough to attack him outright, but he wasn’t foolish enough to rule it out entirely either.
He’d already fully healed from pushing past his physical limits earlier, retrieving the artifact and saving Sarah, so Cassius was more than ready to fight, if needed.
The creature blinked, and, seemingly noticing his tension, spoke. "Afraid? Don’t be afraid, boy. I’m harmless."
"I don’t usually trust anyone who calls themselves harmless."
"Why?"
"Because I call myself harmless."
The creature paused, then opened its mouth in what sounded like laughter but looked closer to a ferocious scowl. "Fair! Very fair, boy! You’re not harmless, are you? Are you? You’re dangerous! Which is exactly why my master told me to keep an eye on you!"
"Your master?" Cassius said. "Who is your master?"
"My master is my master, boy!"
"Does he have a name?"
"The name is master, boy!"
"Could you stop calling me boy?"
"Yes, boy! But why would I, boy? Aren’t you a b—!"
"Alright, thank you," Cassius cut it off, far too worn out for this kind of nonsense. Beyond that, he was genuinely wary of what this Museum might actually do.
For all he knew, they were crazy enough to do something rash. He kept none of that concern showing on his face.
He settled more comfortably onto the bed and spoke. "Since I’m already here, could I take a look around the Museum?"
"No," the creature said flatly, no hesitation in its rough voice. "No one’s allowed to visit without explicit permission from the Council, and implicit permission from the Three Disciples. You have neither, Cassius Desdemona. You’re not permitted to leave until summoned."
"All of this makes me feel like a criminal awaiting trial," Cassius said, his smile turning sharp. "And I don’t much like that feeling, you understand? I especially don’t appreciate being separated from my teammates, as though it’ll make us more anxious about all this."
His frown deepened. "Should I say that again? I don’t enjoy this at all."
"You’re overthinking this, Cassius Desdemona."
"Am I, really?" he replied. "It’s been three hours since we got back. Three hours without a word on how my teammates are doing. Three hours I’ve spent saying and doing nothing at all."
He lifted his eyes, fixing an intense, burning gaze onto the creature. "I pride myself on being patient. Even I have limits, though. And right now, all I feel is that we’re being held as though we’re guilty of the heist. Like prisoners."
"You’ve been healed, given a room to rest, even food and drink, boy."
"Even a pig gets fed before it’s slaughtered," Cassius said, stepping down off the bed.
He faced the creature head-on, his body beginning to hum with Sun Essence, temperature climbing rapidly.
The strange creature’s expression twisted into anger. "What exactly do you think you’re doing, boy? This is the Museum of—!"
"I want to see my three teammates. Immediately. And I want a reason why we’re being held here. If the Council, or whoever runs this Museum, wants to talk, I sincerely hope it’s right now."
"Or else what?" the creature hissed, its body growing rapidly, its aura deepening in step. "You have no grounds to complain, boy! We, on the other hand, have every right to be suspicious of four weak students who somehow survived a battle against unbeatable Fourth Rank beings! Our legendary treasure has been stolen, our Keeper is dead! And who exactly do you think you are, throwing your power around in here?!"
"That’s genuinely unfortunate, but it doesn’t answer my question," Cassius said, voice ice cold. "And as for who I am, I’ll tell you, beast. I am Cassius Desdemona, heir of the Tier One Desdemona family." He declared, and the air around him began to shimmer. "I am a citizen of the Badur Kingdom, bound to the laws and regulations it sets for all its citizens."
Cassius’s voice climbed suddenly, carrying through the entire Museum.
"I hold Tier One status specifically, and the law regarding people of my standing is clearly unambiguous." He narrowed his eyes coldly. "Law Number Nine, under the Social Justice Act of the Badur Kingdom, written by Destiny Heart Desdemona on March 3rd, Year 2003, states that any suspicion or direct accusation of a social crime against a Tier One heir must be handled by the Deathless Prison, under the presence and authority of a Knight Seat."
The creature’s eyes went wide.
Cassius wasn’t finished yet.
"And the fourth verse, on page thirty-three, further states that should a Tier One heir invoke his right to Justice when suspicion of a crime has been raised against him, all relevant authorities are legally bound to respond."
Across the Museum’s scattered rooms, Meadow, William, and Diaila listened, wide-eyed, hearts pounding.
The guards were equally stunned. Even the Council, mid-argument over what to do with the students, went dead silent at his words.
Deep within the Museum itself, three beings opened their eyes, listening, watching Cassius Desdemona.
All the while, the Last Born of the Desdemona stood tall, his aura and presence steadily rising, brighter and brighter, like a sun.
"So I, Cassius Desdemona, Tier One heir and citizen of the Badur Kingdom..."
His voice thundered through the entire Museum.
"...invoke my Call of Justice."
He stared straight at the creature.
"Now, answer it."
