Chapter 429 – Drifting Among The Clouds

[NO!! DARLING! NOOOO!]

Marvela was finally awake from her slumber, and Cassius winced heavily at the sheer volume of her voice inside his mind.

He barely managed to suppress a curse.

"What?" Isolde asked, noticing.

"Nothing," he replied, doing his best to ignore Marvela’s shouting while Ananke and Tysche tried to drag her into silence, the three goddesses looking like sisters who had never gotten along. "It’s just Marvela acting out again. She’s shouting at me, telling me not to cut my hair."

"Because she is the one who decides what MY husband’s hairstyle should be?" Isolde asked, her voice suddenly so low it was almost inaudible.

Cassius had come to realize that whenever his wife’s voice became like that, it usually meant she was irritated.

He smiled wryly and took her hand in his own, then twirled her around until her back was facing him before pulling her against his chest and wrapping his arms tightly around her. When he saw a cloud drifting beside them, Cassius simply lowered himself onto it with Isolde still held against him.

Under normal circumstances, their combined weight would have torn straight through the cloud. However, Cassius had learned perfect control over his strength while training with his master, and now he applied that same control over both his body and Isolde’s, making them lighter than a bird’s feather.

And so, the two of them drifted with the clouds, unheard and unseen, their eyes staring into the blue heaven that looked so bloody close and yet remained impossibly far away.

Within that heaven hung the sun of Sunu Gaal, a glowering, angry ball of light bathing the entire world in its radiance.

Its light washed over the two lovers as they drifted across the sky, and they enjoyed the warmth it gave them, though both found themselves enjoying far more the warmth of the body pressed against their own.

Slowly, even their heartbeats seemed to fall into the same rhythm, beating so loudly against each other that they could almost imagine having two hearts within their chests, with both belonging to the person in their arms.

No words were spoken for a while.

Cassius had decided to put aside the fact that Isolde could have died, while Isolde had decided to forget, if only for now, all the things she still needed to fear and worry about.

It was rare for either of them to have a moment of peace, and rarer still for the two of them to share one together. So they did their best to enjoy it, and perhaps both of them wished that, for once, time would show them a little mercy and simply stop.

Not forever. Just for a moment.

Just long enough for the rest of the world to disappear around them, for time and space and every burden waiting below to collapse into ashes and nothingness, leaving behind nothing but two lovers beneath the blue sky, deeply in love, anticipating their wedding and quietly terrified of ever having to live without the other.

It was peaceful enough that Isolde’s eyes slowly began to close, all the exhaustion and sleepless nights she had accumulated finally deciding to knock on her door and demand their payment.

She began to doze off, yet stubbornly fought against it.

Sleeping meant losing more time with Cass, and the gods knew how desperately she did not want to waste even a second of it.

"Just sleep," Cassius whispered when he noticed, tightening his arms around her. "You’ll wake up and find me beside you. Still with you."

"I don’t want to. I want to stay with you a little longer and look at this scenery. I want to engrave it into my mind." Isolde shifted slightly against him. "And there are so many things I want to do with you, Cass, that sleeping feels like a terrible waste of time. Let’s go to the cinema. Let’s take a night walk, under the moon this time. Let’s play games together, or even visit the History Museum. You know, I’m curious about learning more about the Old Conquerors, and the Heroes of the Ages too."

She paused, took a deep breath and snuggled deeper into him.

"We have so many things to do, Cass. And I want to do all of them before...before everything goes to hell again. I don’t want to look back and regret that we had the time but never used it."

"I want to do all of them too, and we will," Cassius said. "But first, we still have a wedding to prepare, don’t we?"

"Aye, and it’s easy. The wedding will be held in the Church of Death in Vorn City. We only need to inform Helene and send out all the invitations." Isolde hesitated. "Hm...about my dress, I think I’ll ask Anesthesia if she can help me. I...hm...I want her to be with me that day."

Cassius smiled faintly as he listened.

"I also wouldn’t mind if my mother wanted to come," she continued.

"So you want your mother there."

"...she is my mother," Isolde replied meekly. "And I am getting married. I...just want my family to be with me that day."

"And that’s completely fine, darling," Cassius replied. "If you’re embarrassed to ask them, I’ll do it for you. I’ll even convince them if they refuse. Say one thing about Cassius Desdemona, say he knows how to convince people."

"That is certainly you." She chuckled. "But I’ll ask Anesthesia myself. I’ll leave my mother to you."

"Alright. But then I think it’s finally time I learned how to play the flute your mother gave me as a gift." Cassius laughed nervously as he remembered it, only for his eyes to suddenly light up. "Actually, how about we play something together on that day, darling? You can play the piano, and I’ll play the flute."

Isolde giggled. "I don’t mind. In fact, I would love that. I’ve been thinking about a new piece lately. I’ll try to perfect it before the wedding and play it that day."

"Then I really need to get started with the flute. Do you know anything about it?"

"I do. My family loves music, so I tried almost every instrument before eventually choosing the piano."

"Then you’ll be my teacher."

"If you want. But I must warn you, husband, I am quite a strict teacher."

"Oh, worry not. I am quite the genius student."

"Haha." She chuckled before suddenly asking, "But who will be your best man? You do know you need to choose one, right?"

Cassius didn’t even hesitate.

"Klaus, of course," he said, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world. "That bastard is my best man."

"I’m not even surprised. Though I admit I’ve rarely had the opportunity to talk with him. But I know what he is like."

"Hahaha. Everyone knows that side of him, that’s true. But Klaus is more than the arrogant bastard everyone knows him as." Cassius spoke warmly now. "For one, he’s a really good friend. People can say whatever they want about him, but that bastard is loyal."

"Now I want to meet him." Isolde smiled, though her voice lowered soon afterward. "Well, I also need to choose my Maid of Honor. That’s harder. I don’t really have...friends. I mean real friends."

"How about making Sarah your friend? Just like you, she probably needs one." Cassius said while caressing her smooth black hair. "But for your Maid of Honor, you could choose your sister, you know? She might complain and even refuse at first, but...well, I think she’ll accept if you convince her enough."

"How easy do you think it is to convince my sister?" Isolde scoffed.

"With Raven around her? Easier than usual. Raven loves his family, and he seems like the kind of man who would tell her to accept."

"Will she actually listen to him?"

"I hope so," Cassius said. "But he probably has a better chance of getting her to listen than you do. Oh, now that I say it aloud, that’s actually pretty sad."

"Fuck you, Cassius. Don’t make it worse."

He laughed and kissed her cheek. "Fuck me? I think the chances of the opposite happening are considerably higher."

Isolde coughed, completely caught off guard by his reply, before slowly beginning to laugh.

"Is that a challenge?"

"What? You dare challenge me on that?"

"I mean, why not? I don’t mind doing the fucking."

Cassius instantly went speechless, his mouth hanging open in a wide ’O’.

"Is that a yes?" Isolde cackled, clearly enjoying herself now. "Don’t worry, I’ll go easy on you. Five days, right? Gods, five days suddenly sounds far too long."

"I thought I was the pervert here," Cassius muttered.

"This isn’t me being a pervert," Isolde whispered. "This is me being transparent with the man I intend to spend the rest of my life with."

Her hand slowly moved down to his pants, settling over the hardness already beginning to rise beneath them like a Tower.

"And I’ve been away from you for far too long. I might just jump on you."

"Please, jump on me," Cassius replied instantly, his own hand moving over her breast. "Or maybe you want me to do it?"

Isolde let out a hot breath as Cassius’s hand caressed her intimately, while her own closed around his hard cock.

"Kiss me," she whispered breathlessly. "Because if I do it first, I won’t stop at your lips."

"Neither will I."

And kiss her, he did.
