Chapter 431 – Wedding’s Invitations

"Klaus, bastard, do you really want to go through with the maid dress? Are you secretly a pervert?" Love spoke rapidly, the words spilling from her mouth like a torrent as she followed Klaus into the room where they would wait until the next photoshoot.

Once inside, she shut the door behind her, her pink eyes never leaving the man in front of her.

Klaus, for his part, wasn’t even looking at her, his attention completely focused on his phone.

And yet, he still replied.

"A pervert?" He shrugged. "I am. Now can you stay silent? What I’m reading right now deserves all my attention because I genuinely can’t believe it."

"Believe what?"

Curious as she was, Love immediately appeared behind Klaus and, without waiting for his approval — or even considering that she might need it — leaned closer to his face and peeked at his phone.

Her eyes were fast. In an instant, she had read the message Cassius had sent Klaus, and they widened almost immediately.

"What?" Love blurted out. "Cassius wants an Official Wedding?"

She paused, seemingly needing a moment for the information to properly settle inside her mind.

"Is he crazy? Does he know that once it’s done, their souls are bound until death does them part?"

"Love, you’re focusing on the wrong thing right now." Klaus shook his head, his green hair swaying gently as his mouth split into a smile he desperately tried to suppress. "I’m going to be the best man. That’s what’s important right now. Vorn’s breath, this bastard at least knows my worth."

"Klaus, a damn bloody Official Wedding!"

Love was still fixated on that point.

No bloody noble would willingly do such a thing. Even her own father had never gone through with an Official Wedding, despite all the love he had claimed to have for her mother.

So why would Cassius, someone so young, willingly make such a foolish decision?

Why would he take the risk of binding himself to one woman forever when, years from now, he might meet someone who suited the person he had become far better?

It didn’t make sense to Love.

People changed, and there was never any guarantee that the person they became would still be someone their partner could love.

How many relationships had been destroyed because of exactly that?

Too many to count.

Far too many.

"You still don’t understand, do you?" Klaus suddenly said, making Love snap her head toward him.

"Understand what? I understand perfectly well. I just think he’s being foolish," she snapped, somehow finding herself genuinely irritated by the whole thing.

Which was strange, because Love couldn’t give a fuck about either Cassius or Isolde.

But she didn’t need to think very deeply to understand why this Official Wedding bothered her so much.

It was because she had never even considered doing something like that herself. Never in her life had Love imagined that she could love another person enough to willingly bind herself to them forever.

There was nothing about that realization that should have irritated her.

Yet it did.

And that irritation only deepened when she looked at Klaus and realized that, even with him standing right there in front of her, she still couldn’t imagine herself doing it.

Was it because...she wasn’t sincere enough?

Was it because she—!

’Why are you even asking yourself this, stupid Love?!’ She violently cut off the thought. ’It doesn’t matter to you. You don’t love this bastard anyway. Don’t think about it! Don’t!’

Yet the thought refused to disappear, clinging stubbornly to her mind like a damn bloody locust.

"Cassius is a reckless bastard, that’s true," Klaus said, dragging her out of her thoughts as he looked down at his phone and reread the message. "But he isn’t reckless enough to bind himself to one woman forever unless he’s truly sure about her. So if he’s doing this, then he’s serious about it. But I don’t expect your stupid ass to understand."

He smiled mockingly at her.

"Someone who has never sincerely loved anyone would never understand someone who has. That’s the gap between your perspective and theirs."

"Because you do?" Love retorted with a hiss.

"I do." Klaus shrugged. "Because I’m smart enough to understand something without experiencing it myself. Don’t think I’m as stupid as you."

Love refused to take the bait.

At this point, Klaus could call her just about anything and she would barely feel anything from it. Suspiciously enough, she was getting used to his insults, just as he was getting used to her provocations.

She didn’t like that.

It was time to level up the game.

"You’ve never loved anyone the way Cassius loves Isolde, then?" Love whispered as she closed the distance between them, grabbed his collar and pulled his face closer to hers. "That’s not what your heartbeat is telling me."

Klaus stared at her without blinking.

"Didn’t you know that disgust and anger can increase your heartbeat?"

"I know I don’t disgust you."

"But you anger me."

"And I’m proud of it. You do the same, don’t you?"

"Very proud of it. But we don’t have time for this, Love. Last time, we had to threaten that poor woman who saw us fall together during your reckless shopping spree. We can’t do that here."

"Take me with you."

"Huh?" Klaus blinked.

"To the Official Wedding." Love smiled. "Take me with you, Klaus. I want to see those two for myself and understand just why and how they can do something like this. What do you think? The beautiful Rising Star Love de Bayard, now with over three million followers, will accompany you. Isn’t that fantastic?"

"Oh yes. I’m dying of joy," Klaus replied flatly, his eyes completely blank.

Love chuckled, noticed the sarcasm and promptly ignored it.

"Tell Cassius I’ll take care of the clothes for the best man, Maid of Honor, groomsmen and bridesmaids. I’ll handle all of it. Consider it my gift to him and, because he is dear to you..." Her voice dropped to a whisper. "...I’ll even do it for free."

Klaus arched an eyebrow. "You love me, don’t you?"

"Do you?"

The two stared at each other for a moment. Then, almost at the exact same time, they grinned.

"I see you as a friend," Love added rapidly.

"I don’t even see you as a friend. Shut up," Klaus immediately replied.

...

Back in the Black Market, Anesthesia was sitting atop a corpse, her face splattered with blood, and all the rest of her body too.

Raven was on her left, standing with hands in his pockets, unbothered, almost nonchalant at the gruesome sight around him.

His body and clothes were free of any blood.

In front of Anesthesia knelt a shivering woman, black eyes and pink hair, eyes wide as she looked at them.

However, Anesthesia was not fully focused on her. Her bloody hand was clutching her phone, looking blankly at the message of her sister for the nth time.

Raven chuckled, seeing her, "If we want to give you the time to prepare everything with her, we must finish it today."

"...it doesn’t matter. We can take our time."

"I insist." Raven said, and took his hands out of his pockets, and they began to glow with deathly energy, "I will do the torture to make it fast. Alright?"

Anesthesia looked at the message, hesitated, then replied to Isolde with a quick:

"> <You have no one but me anyway. Poor you. Just don’t act close with me.>

Next, she stored her phone back, her eyes narrowing on the woman. Taking a deep breath, her voice boomed out, "I am quite on edge right now. You better answer fast or I will make you go through your worst nightmare." Her aura began to rise, cold and merciless, filled with murderous intent, "So fucking speak. Where is Babi, that old ugly bitch?"

The woman began to cry. But neither Raven nor Anesthesia cared about her tears.

In a freaking instant, Raven grasped the woman’s head and began to kill her Life, slowly but undoubtedly.

Her eyes widened in horror, and Anesthesia, impatient, added to it by delivering a bloody kick straight to her face, peeling away the flesh of the woman’s cheek, and knocking a few of her teeth straight to the ground.

"Let’s do it again." Anesthesia said as her leg came back down, the tip of her boot dripping with blood and adorned with pieces of flesh, eyes flat, "Where is Babi, that whore?"

This time, whether because of the pain or something else, the woman spoke as she wailed:

"In the underground of the Rayvan Shop! She is...she is with the Oracle Javier, and her new master Balova!"

Anesthesia cocked her head, and looked at Raven, their faces still masked.

"Ever heard of them?" Raven asked.

The Chosen Heiress smiled grimly, "Guess so. This will take a bit longer, I believe."

The Prince looked at her intensely, "are we?"

...

While all of this was happening in all corners of Vorn City, the Land of Death, in another part of that same city, in the Red District, high in the building of the infamous Bliss’s Palace, the tension was chokingly high inside the room of Bliss himself.

He stood in the middle of the room, and in front of him was the woman he had saved back in the Deathless Prison, chained on the floor.

The woman had brown skin, her right eye of a grey color, while the left was deeply white. Her hair was a mix of grey and white just like her eyes, giving her a stunning appearance.

But appearance was not the reason why Dorian saved her.

It was what he had felt while seeing her, and what the woman herself seemed to feel toward him.

And after investigating, the answer was far too obvious.

An answer that Esmeray, who was inside the same room, just beside Dorian, looking at the woman with wide, shocked eyes, still couldn’t believe.

"What...what did you just say, Dorian?" Esmeray asked, and her heart was about to explode.

Dorian took a deep breath, and said for the 4th time now, "This woman is just like you."

He paused for a heartbeat,

"She also has the Cupid’s Curse."
