Chapter 437 – The Wedding of the Generation [3]
The whole kingdom felt like it had a bloody fever.
The temperature was blisteringly hot, the sky impossibly bright, the sun unwilling to set as if anticipating what was about to happen.
And that, even though it was now 8pm.
By all means, that day was a normal one. At least, according to the Kingdom’s calendar.
It was a day people were supposed to go to work and earn their living, just like any other.
Yet, for some reason, no one did.
No one took their carriages, no one opened their stores, no one went to do whatever they needed to do.
Almost every single person in the Badur Kingdom was either inside their house, staring at the Runic TV with rapt attention, or gathered in some famous store, watching alongside strangers the event that was about to be broadcast everywhere.
Some, however, were not satisfied with watching it through a screen. So they traveled all the way from every city in the kingdom to Vorn City, to the Crimson Church of Death itself.
They wanted to witness it.
They had been boiling with that feeling ever since the news spread across the Net that Cassius Desdemona, Lord Angel of the Land of Death, would marry Isolde Amaris, now called the Chosen Lady by the masses, through an Official Wedding.
A Wedding that left no room for separation.
To say some people were shocked would be the understatement of the century.
Especially the women, some of whom still held the foolish hope that one day Cassius might notice them and take them as his mistress.
A ridiculously common thought among them.
But even the men were completely taken aback, wondering how a man like Cassius, who had everything, could want to settle down with only one woman.
They simply couldn’t understand the reasoning behind such an act.
After all, it had been told and retold that all the great men of the old generations had more than one woman.
The Magi of Righteous Blade was one of them. So were Valor Fist and Christian the Unborn.
And strangely, that measure of greatness was not limited to men. Women were included too.
Because two generations ago, the world measured the greatness of a man or a woman by the size of their harem.
That tradition could still be seen in some parts of the world, and even in the Badur Kingdom, with Rose Bishop.
Yet Cassius did the complete opposite.
And by doing so, unknowingly, he set an example. An example the mundane folk could see and witness for themselves, not merely hear about in tales from the past.
The example of a great and talented man choosing only one woman despite all his possibilities.
Only an example. But that was all a world needed for change to happen.
"Are you ready?! You bloody bastard, focus! Focus, I say!" a wild reporter shouted, his moustache drooping, slapping the back of his photographer’s head. "The guests are coming! The guests of the Wedding are here!"
That journalist was not the only one there.
Dozens upon dozens of journalists had gathered outside the Crimson Church of Death, ready to capture this moment.
Cassius and the groomsmen had already slipped inside the Church unnoticed, so now every lens was waiting for the guests, determined not to miss a thing.
The noise was overwhelming, the smells so mixed that only sweat could be told apart, while the clicking of cameras echoed all around.
People shouted here and there, fighting for the best view and the best picture to publish.
Many other commoners had come too, unwilling to settle for a screen.
They wanted to feast their own eyes upon it.
And just as that journalist had said, the guests were finally arriving.
And the very first one made everyone understand that this wedding...was not just any wedding.
Mallory Octavia Claweye, Dean of the Elysia Academy and master of the Red Dragons’ Heir, walked down the red carpet in a silver dress that fell just past her ankles.
An indescribable aura surrounded her, her sharp eyes fixed only on the closed doors of the Church, where the Head Maid of the Hood stood, having just announced her arrival.
The crowd roared, entering a bloody frenzy.
That was only the beginning.
Next came Rose Bishop herself, a seven-foot-tall, pale-skinned woman with long white hair and glowing pink eyes.
She wore her trademark sensual smile on her full, heart-shaped, glossy lips, her slim hourglass figure framed by a black dress that trailed along the floor.
A piercing shaped like a pink butterfly adorned her nose.
She was accompanied by her three children: Ophelia Bishop, blindfolded and dressed in white; Blossom Bishop, her black hair cut extremely short, in a dress that showed off her toned physique; and finally, the youngest, Alexander Bishop, with his one blind eye and a stunning white suit.
The whole Bishop Family. The Family of Wonders!
Rose held her son’s hand lovingly, showing the whole world once again who her favorite child was.
The excitement rose, and rose further still as the others began to arrive one by one.
Willow Wealth, the Richest Woman in Sunu Gaal, the Holder of Gold and Riches, appeared in all her stunning beauty, her black skin gleaming dazzlingly like polished marble under the sun.
She was accompanied by her sons: River, Sea and Clover Wealth.
None of them wore any jewelry except a watch, yet everyone knew they could buy the whole kingdom.
The Wealth Family, the Midas of this World!
Next was Cassandra of Patience, who had dragged her own mother, Widow of the Goddess, to the Wedding.
The King and Queen of the Kingdom also came, accompanied by their daughter, Esmeray Hood.
Their red hair blazed under the sun, glowing like true fire from the depths of Hell.
Soon after, Seraphim Hood followed, and there, people beheld a monstrous beauty they had never thought possible.
The journalists went crazy over Seraphim, demanding to know how she had been allowed out of the Academy.
Hel Hood came after Seraphim.
Then the Castria Family arrived, William among them, his back as straight as a blade.
Then came the Safara Family, represented only by Jeanne Safara, who looked terribly lonely.
The Law Family, represented only by Diaila Law, arrived almost unnoticed, yet the aura around her made people give her a second glance.
Even Emrys Stormblessed came to the wedding, a woman at his side who was clearly not human by any standard, and who looked oddly nervous.
And just like that, all the guests had arrived. Every one of them bore a crimson bird perched on their shoulder, proof of their invitation.
Finally, minutes after the last guest had entered the Crimson Church of Death, a beautiful purple and white carriage arrived in front of the Church.
The first to step out was Love de Bayard, followed closely by Keisha, Natalia, Sarah, Meadow, Morgan, Lilien and finally Anesthesia Amaris herself.
Every journalist knew then who was inside the carriage, and with hearts pounding against their chests, they prepared for the one perfect picture.
Next, Sophia Amaris, now Ruler of House Amaris, stepped out of the carriage. She stood tall before the crowd, like a pillar that had never bent despite all the storms.
She turned elegantly and offered her hand to the only one left inside.
A hand, gloved in white up to the elbow, reached out and took it.
The tension thickened, and Isolde Amaris stepped out. The world felt as though it had dimmed on purpose, just to give her all its light.
She wore a stunning white wedding dress so long it pooled beneath her, her face completely veiled and unseen.
"WOAHH!!!"
"TAKE IT! TAKE THE GODDAMNED PICTURE, YOU BASTARD!"
"ISOLDE! ISOLDE! ISOLDE! MARRY ME!"
"KILL THE MAN! KILL THE MAN WHO SAID THAT!"
The crowd erupted into a frenzy, and they would have rushed Isolde if not for the guards, ready to kill, holding the lines intact.
The Bridesmaids said nothing, walking ahead into the Church to take their places.
As they passed, people still couldn’t believe that so many famous young women had gathered in one place, all as Isolde’s Bridesmaids.
Even Meadow! Even Love!
There were even Morgan and Lilien Desdemona, two women the public rarely laid eyes on!
Just how?
How was this Wedding gathering every important person under one bloody roof?
Those watching from home and those gathered outside the Church simply couldn’t believe it.
Yet it was happening, and by the time they had gathered themselves, all the Bridesmaids were inside.
At the door of the Church, the Head Maid of the Royal Hood spoke, her voice echoing all around as Isolde approached:
"Lady Isolde of House Amaris is entering!"
The doors of the Church yawned open as Isolde and her mother stopped on the doorstep.
The world slowly began to drown in silence, and the soon-to-be wife lifted her veiled face, looking inside.
And there, standing on an elevated altar, was a man waiting for her, staring at her in a way only he could.
In a heartbeat, all the memories of the recent weeks flashed through her mind.
’Finally,’ Isolde thought, her heart shuddering. ’Here I am.’
