Chapter 439 – All the Strangest People Under One Roof

The symphony of divine voices coming from all around the world surprised everyone who could hear it, and even those who couldn’t could still feel something odd in the air.

It tasted wrong, or maybe right, depending on the person.

Mother System, the Supreme Entity, the Admin of the systems everyone had access to and the one who controlled the evolution of all living things in the worlds... had accepted that the Wedding of Cassius and Isolde would become the Wedding of the Generation.

None of them knew the importance of that designation. Even the strongest beings like Mallory and Rose didn’t exactly understand the meaning behind it.

But without a single doubt, it was something far beyond anything they could have imagined.

For that reason alone, this Wedding, and this date, September 1st, became a date no one in the kingdom would ever dare to forget.

After all, this was the very day the Wedding of the Generation had taken place, making Cassius and Isolde husband and wife in the eyes of the world, and even in the eyes of the divine.

"This is crazy," Cassius muttered, still holding Isolde in his arms, his heart pounding against his chest like a stomping horse. "What just happened?"

"Do you think I know?" Isolde replied in the same shocked and confused voice.

[This is not the time for you to worry about this.] Ananke said, smiling. [The Wedding is not over yet.]

’But what does that mean?’ Cassius asked, ignoring the noise all around them. ’What does being Recorded bring us?’

[What else?] Tysche giggled, though her voice was weaker. [We made your Wedding an important point in this world’s history. Which means that no matter what happens, even if this whole world were destroyed and rebuilt, or time itself reset, your Wedding will always happen. You two will always find each other and marry on September 1st. Ah, this sounds familiar, doesn’t it? What do we call it again? Hm, dear sister?]

[Fated.] The Queen of Fate whispered, her smile widening. [Quite fitting, don’t you think?]

[But that’s not all, of course.] Marvela added, and Cassius noted her slightly sad tone. [It also means that you two have a Record personally acknowledged by the World. You don’t know it yet, but past a certain point, only Records can help you evolve and step into higher ranks.]

So many things were happening at once, and Cassius was struggling to grasp the full scale of what had just happened. However, it was clearly not the time to ponder it.

On this day, he had promised to think of nothing but his wife. So he would gladly accept the gift his goddesses had prepared for them, and...

"Well, guess your birthday has been Recorded by the World. Tell me, how does it feel to be seen and acknowledged by the Supreme, Mother System herself?" Cassius asked with a teasing smile, and Isolde laughed before hugging him again.

"Still not better than when you did it back at my house."

"Quite the romantic, aren’t you?"

"To be the wife of a drama queen like you, I must be romantic to quench your thirst."

"Aren’t I lucky to have a wife like you, then?"

"And a best friend like me?" Klaus chimed in, suddenly standing between Cassius and Isolde. He wrapped his arms around their shoulders. "Hey, lovebirds, what in the name of Vorn’s balls just happened?"

Only then did the couple realize how loud their surroundings were, people talking among themselves about what had just happened, while others simply stared at them.

The groomsmen were chatting with the bridesmaids, especially Omm and Meadow.

That is, until Jeanne came over and made Meadow want to bury the woman. Omm was still laughing innocently, completely unaware of the silent war happening beside him.

Raven and Anesthesia were together, the prince talking with Sophia, surely seeking her blessing. However, the Matriarch barely glanced at him, still thinking about what had just happened.

There was also Mallory, who wanted to be alone. But that was easier said than done with Rose Bishop hovering around her like a fly around a corpse.

"Your disciple sure is something, my love. Is that why you hid him from me?" Rose said with a bright smile, standing close to Mallory.

Around them, the noise rose like a blanket.

"Don’t talk to me, Rose," Mallory said, crossing her arms, her eyes fixed on Cassius.

"Ah, so cold and ruthless again, even to me, Rose Bishop," Rose whispered. "And yet, my love, I will gladly lay my heart at your feet."

"Quite unwise." Mallory smiled thinly. "I don’t step lightly."

"And I don’t ride slowly. And I have always wanted to ride you, my love." Rose Bishop then leaned closer and whispered into Mallory’s ear amid the noise and chorus of voices, "Your disciple is married, but he is... quite something. I want to ride him."

Mallory snapped her head towards Rose and smiled coldly. "Dare to do so, and I shall kill you for good, Rose."

"I love it when you threaten me." Rose smirked, before feeling her hand being pulled by her daughter, Blossom. She glanced at her, then back at Mallory, and said one last thing, "Next time, threaten me while choking me in bed, alright? Now let me be a mother."

She laughed, walked away.

"What is going on?" Rose asked her daughter as she followed her.

"Ophelia wants to fight Morgan, here, for killing her boyfriend," Blossom said. "You must stop her right now."

Rose arched an eyebrow. "She still hasn’t forgotten that poor man?"

"She loved him, I guess."

"A man?" Rose smiled. "I know my daughter. She is like me."

Blossom looked at her and shrugged.

"Where is Alexander, my baby, now?"

"With that boring Cassandra. Tsk. Don’t know what he sees in that woman."

"Hahaha. Let me go see him!"

"And Ophelia?"

"She won’t dare fight the sister of the married man, will she?"

"..." Blossom fell silent, and Rose laughed. The two soon disappeared into the crowd of guests.

Mallory Octavia had watched Rose walk away the entire time. She then shook her head, tired of rejecting Rose every time, and focused on her disciple, who had once again done something historic.

To be recognized by Mother System herself. To be Recorded so early in their lives.

Who could claim to have done the same at only 18 years old?

’Indeed. If I have to pass on my Legacy, it will certainly be to you, Cassius.’ She found herself smiling. Then her smile died when she saw Dantes Hood and remembered the beast she had lost to him.

The wedding had to end fast. Otherwise, she might kill someone here.

The Wedding went on just like that, with people slowly recovering from the shock of the divine intervention.

After being officially married, Cassius and Isolde joined their families and friends, accepting their congratulations and their numerous gifts.

It was exhausting, to say the least.

Afterwards, because the one getting married was Cassius himself, whose mother was a Hood, the inside of the Church was rearranged and tables of food were quickly set.

People sat among those they knew, or those they wanted to know.

Some simply found themselves paired with each other, like William and Diaila, who wanted nothing to do with each other. Yet they sat together. And soon, Diaila began to talk to him.

William ignored her, but replied when Diaila stomped on his foot. The stoic heir was angered.

There was also Emrys, who was with Naia, the young catling utterly mesmerized by the extravagance of the people of the Land of Death.

They seemed to live in a world completely different from the one she knew.

Only then did she begin to understand why the Shaman and their false god didn’t want them to get close to these people.

Because the temptation was immense. Naia had been there for barely five days, and she never wanted to go back to her old, primitive village again.

It was just that different. It was just... otherworldly.

However, it wasn’t all good. Because as a nonhuman in a land of humans, she was an easy target.

People looked at her strangely, especially Love de Bayard, who took the time to come over to Emrys and, with a bright smile filled with poison, said:

"Why, you’ve gone as far as getting a pet now, Emrys? Oh my. That’s just so you." Looking at Naia, she grinned even wider. "What a cute little thing."

"She is not a thing," Emrys hissed, his eyes narrowing. "She has a name, and it’s—!"

"I don’t care about the names of pets, cuck Emrys," Love cut him off, and Emrys’s face went dead cold.

He was about to do something before he stopped, as if someone had warned him against it.

Love watched him, enjoying his anger, then flipped him off and walked away, waving goodbye to Naia. "Bye, little toy. How long will you last with him, I wonder?"

Naia became truly afraid, finally seeing that in this Land of Death... there were people who didn’t see her as someone, but as something.

She began to tremble, and Emrys’s anger boiled.

But he kept it in check, knowing that if he dared do anything at this wedding, he would regret it.

Instead, he leaned towards Naia, took her shaking hand, and smiled at her. "Don’t be afraid. You will be fine."

"But who... who are these people?" Naia asked, looking at Love, Klaus, Anesthesia, Meadow... then Cassius.

Emrys smiled humorlessly. "Them? Ah. My dear comrades. What are we called again? Ah, yes. The Golden Generation, I think."

"Golden... Generation?" Naia muttered, her eyes wide with both fear and wonder.

Already, she knew her new life would be completely different.

Feelings at the Wedding were mixed. Many harbored ill thoughts about the husband and wife but didn’t dare show them openly.

Many others were genuinely afraid, seeing Cassius and Isolde as truly dangerous people.

After all, Mother System had spoken their titles. And those titles were frightening, especially Lightbringer and The One Who Saw Death and Returned.

Because if even Mother System called them that, it had to be true.

Did Isolde really see death and come back?

Did Cassius really become the Lightbringer of the Spirit World?

Just what kind of beings were marrying each other?

They didn’t know.

But all those thoughts came to a halt when, after allowing people to eat, drink and talk, Klaus, the Best Man, stepped onto the altar, facing the crowd.

People turned their attention to him as he opened his mouth:

"Cassius practically begged me on his knees to be his best man, and being the generous, kindhearted, and exceptionally handsome friend that I am, I naturally accepted this rather heavy burden," Klaus began, grinning shamelessly. "So, ladies and gentlemen, I would appreciate it if you could stop eating as though you’ve been starving for the last three generations. And Emrys, for Vorn’s sake, tell that rather unusual friend of yours, or whatever the hell she is to you, to stop gobbling up everything on her plate as though the food might suddenly grow legs and run away, and pay attention to what is undoubtedly going to be the greatest best-man speech you people will ever have the privilege of hearing in your entire lives."

For some reason, they stopped eating. And with a satisfied grin,

"Shall we?"
