Luka had collapsed from magical power exhaustion. Rather than leave him sprawled on the Floor, Kouhi moved him to the bed with careful consideration. By Kouhi’s estimation, Luka would regain consciousness naturally once his mana reserves recovered. It would approximately take two hours from now.
Those who had witnessed Luka activate the magic circle gathered in the conference room. While a more relaxed setting might have sufficed, the gravity of their discussion warranted the formal atmosphere of the meeting space.
Towa spoke first, his curiosity evident. He had been puzzled by Shrein’s obvious admiration when the result was so… lacklustre.
“Why were you so impressed?” He asked. “It is just a small ice cube created through magic.”
Towa genuinely could not comprehend Shrein’s reaction, which seemed disproportionate to what he had just witnessed.
Shrein raised her right hand to her chin thoughtfully in response to Towa’s question.
“You didn’t notice?” She glanced toward Mia, recognizing from her expression that she shared Towa’s confusion. “I guess neither of you understood what made that magic circle so amazing.”
Shrein proceeded to explain the fundamental significance of Luka’s magical achievement.
“That magic circle created ice using nothing but his own Magic Power. There were no external components to it whatsoever.”
“What?” Towa tilted his head momentarily, struggling to grasp the implications. Then understanding dawned, and shock transformed his features. “That’s impossible!”
Beside him, Mia remained silent, her face reflecting the same stunned realization.
Creating matter from pure Magic Power, without any catalyst or base material, represented the ultimate dream of magical practitioners. Conventional ice magic required water or similar substances as a foundation for the spell’s activation. Researchers had pursued such catalyst-free techniques for generations, yet they remained theoretical impossible.
“What about Spirits?” Mia asked, finally finding her voice. “Could he have borrowed their power?”
Spirit Magic involved imbuing Spirits with Mana and directing them to perform Magic on the caster’s behalf. Even through this method, a practitioner could theoretically create ice using only Magic Power.
Collete shook her head decisively. “I detected no activity from the Spirits during the casting.”
As an Elf, she was more sensitive to the presence of Spirits compared to ordinary Humans, and holding the unique position of World Tree Priestess, Collete’s assessment carried absolute authority. Her denial left no room for doubt regarding Spirits
“Could Divine Power have been involved?” Towa asked Sylvia, though he considered this possibility unlikely.
Sylvia’s response was equally definitive. “Impossible. Creating matter through Divine Power represents the exclusive domain of the Gods themselves.” She turned to Kousuke for confirmation. “Wouldn’t you agree?”
Kousuke nodded at Sylvia’s questioning gaze before addressing Towa and Mia directly.
“The magic circle Luka made is unquestionably designed to generate ice using only Magic Power. I can guarantee this.”
Faced with Kousuke’s authoritative statement, Towa and Mia had no choice but to accept the extraordinary truth: Luka had successfully performed an unprecedented feat of magic.
“While impressive, that magic circle contains a significant flaw though.” Kousuke continued. “I’m certain he’ll recognize it immediately once he wakes up.”
Everyone present understood Kousuke’s meaning. Luka’s current unconscious state served as clear evidence of the problem.
“Magic Power consumption?” Towa ventured.
“Yeah.” Kousuke confirmed her assessment. “Luka possesses mana reserves that far exceeds most.”
“I see.” Towa nodded casually at this revelation, but Shrein shook her head at his nonchalant response.
“Since you appear unaware of the full significance, allow me to clarify. When Kousuke refers to ‘most,’ he even includes Elves and Vampires like myself.”
Both Towa and Mia’s eyes widened at this revelation. While they had suspected Luka possessed considerable mana reserves, they had never imagined it surpassed that of races renowned for their Magic Power.
“That level of power could certainly attract unwanted attention,” Towa observed with growing concern.
Shrein sighed at her worried tone. “You speak as though this doesn’t concern you directly. You do know that all of Kousuke’s children possess comparable mana reserves, right?”
This statement left Towa and Mia speechless. They had never conceived that they might possess mana reserves exceeding that of magically gifted races. Despite their magic education, they had never undergone precise measurements of their own capabilities.
Another factor had concealed the children’s extraordinary magical potential from general awareness.
“You never told them?” Shrein asked Sylvia, who nodded confirmation.
“Knowledge of their power would not serve any real purpose. Not like they are going to use it.”
Towa and Mia exchanged confused glances while the others appeared to understand perfectly.
“What do you mean?” Towa asked, realizing he and Mia were the only ones lacking in understanding.
“It is straightforward, really.” Sylvia replied. “Your mana reserves exceeds what children’s bodies can safely contain, so it remains naturally restricted. Essentially, it is sealed.”
The casual nature of this revelation left Towa and Mia stunned into silence.
“The seal should lift once your bodies develop enough capacity to handle such power, though the precise timing is something that I can’t tell.” Sylvia turned to Kousuke questioningly.
Kousuke studied Towa carefully before shaking his head. “We cannot tell the exact timeline. You are all continuing to grow, and it is not in a steady pace. So, we can’t really predict such stuff.”
Although Towa had passed through his primary growth phase, his development had not ceased entirely. Even Kousuke could not predict when the magic seal would dissolve.
“Dad, you didn’t create this seal?” Mia asked hesitantly.
Kousuke shook his head again. “No. This is an innate characteristic present from birth. It is a form of defense mechanism. Luka’s magical breakthrough created a temporary breach in his seal.”
“I understand,” Mia replied, absorbing this information.
After learning about their unexpected characteristics, Towa and Mia appeared exhausted as they contemplated the implications for their futures.
Observing their expressions, Shrein redirected the conversation to Kousuke. “We seem to have digressed from the original topic. We can’t leave this magic circle unaddressed.”
“But, I don’t think it poses any danger. Also, can you think of anyone besides Luka capable of activating such a magic circle?” Kousuke added.
Shrein considered this question carefully before nodding in understanding. The Magic Power requirements for activating Luka’s circle were simply too demanding for ordinary people.
“Luka will likely recognize the efficiency problem immediately upon awakening though,” Kousuke predicted. “This incident will serve as an indicator that it needs further improvements. I expect he’ll dedicate far more of his effort to enhancing the magic circle’s performance.”
Everyone nodded in agreement with this assessment. Such determination perfectly matched Luka’s character.
“Knowing Luka, he will succeed in optimizing it.” Kousuke added.
The others responded with knowing smiles, fully aware of Luka’s remarkable potential for innovation.
