Chapter 283 : A Pool Or An Ocean, Which one is Better?

Chapter 283: Chapter 283 : A Pool Or An Ocean, Which one is Better?

Draven was shocked. How the hell did Jax walk out of that chamber like it was an open door?

But he didn’t have time for the jaw-dropping moment because he was going through excruciating pain. Jax had his fingers interlocked and bent backward in a grip that felt like a hydraulic press. Draven didn’t have the strength to break free. All he could manage were some weak protests and muffled screams.

And while locked in that grip he watched his own pyroball sail right through the space where the invisible chamber was supposed to be. Through it. As if nothing was ever there.

Then a voice rang in his mind to make the nightmare official.

[The Survival Game #21 has ended. Team #13 declared victors. Teleporting Student Draven back to Arena #2.]

Draven said through the pain and shock. "Impossible. What the hell is happening?"

Jax let go of his hand and looked down at him with a devilish smile. "Can’t you see? Your team lost the moment you were tasting dirt after that punch."

Draven’s soul left his body. He dropped to his knees and managed only two words. "But how—"

Before he could finish, both Jax and Draven were consumed by teleportation light and vanished from the battlefield.

[Moments Earlier — Before The Victory Was Decided]

Elira was running.

She had been fighting Leon using the terrain to her advantage. Hiding behind ruins. Backing off to create distance. Launching surprise attacks whenever he dropped his guard for even a second. But right now she had exhausted every last drop of blood from her spatial ring.

So she was creating distance. Buying time. Moving through the wreckage of the city with whatever speed her battered body could produce.

Leon was following her from above. He had created an iced path in the air for himself, gliding along it casually while tracking the bleeding girl below as if this was a leisurely afternoon stroll.

Her condition was getting worse by the minute. Weakened from the inside by her vitals and from the outside by the injuries Leon had inflicted. And to make it all worse she couldn’t fight using weapons anymore. Her right hand was better than before. The black veins had returned to normal and the color wasn’t as horrifying. But it still wasn’t functional. Not with the swollen veins and fingers that refused to close into a proper grip.

Leon called down from his elevated position with a smile that made her want to vomit. "There is no point in running, dear. You’re doing nothing but making yourself look pathetic to the whole world. And I won’t accept people calling my future wife a coward."

His smile widened as he saw Elira finally come to a stop.

He analyzed the surrounding area. She had run herself into the open. No collapsed buildings. No towers. No cover.

"Oops. Seems like you ran in the wrong direction. Now there’s no place left to hide."

He created steps of ice for himself and descended to the ground. His feet touched the earth and he raised his hand, forming an icy spike and shooting it directly at her. "Let’s see how much pain that stubborn ego of yours can absorb."

Elira saw it coming. Read the trajectory. And tilted her head just enough for the spike to pass right beside her ear. Close enough to feel the frozen air kiss her skin.

But the spike hit something behind her. Something invisible. Something hard enough to shatter the spike’s head on impact. The broken pieces tumbled down beside her feet.

Leon’s confidence cracked for the first time.

Elira took a deep breath and leaned against the invisible wall behind her. And then she spoke.

"On my way to your base, I was shocked to discover a high-tier barrier protecting this resting place. Or rather, the graveyard of our ancestors who gave their lives for this world."

She paused.

"Well, it makes sense. If this solemn ground was disturbed just because of a tournament, the academy would have faced serious backlash."

Her smile appeared. Calm. Knowing.

"This very same ground has buried more than one million casualties from both sides. Along with our former king. The soil beneath your feet is probably holding the remains of hundreds of soldiers right where you’re standing."

Leon was baffled. Frustrated. Because it felt like Elira was enjoying herself. "And what exactly does that change?"

Elira spoke next as if she hadn’t heard his question. But every word carried the answer he needed.

"You asked me earlier why I was attacking you so recklessly. Why I kept leaving behind my reserved pool of blood and running away when standing and fighting with all that accumulated blood would have been far more effective."

She raised both her hands toward the sky. As if she was summoning the dead from beneath the earth.

"SO TELL ME, LEON. WHY THE HELL WOULD I HAVE CHOSEN A POOL WHEN I HAD ACCESS TO A WHOLE OCEAN?!"

From the ground beneath them, blackish-red liquid started leaking through the cracks and crevices of the ancient soil. And then in an instant it flooded the area. Rising up to their feet. A tide of century-old blood that had been trapped beneath this cursed earth for longer than either of them had been alive.

Elira said. "One million deaths. Can you imagine the bloodshed that soaked into this ground? Can you imagine how much this poor ruined soil had to absorb? And here, in this cursed place where nature can no longer interfere, do you really think the soil could decompose this greatest of elixirs?"

Leon hissed. He understood now what was happening. But he refused to show fear.

"You really think you’ve trapped me? Then you’re a fool, Elira. I can beat you anywhere. Even on your own turf."

He raised his hands to prepare an ice shard attack. But before the magic could form, two chains of blood erupted from the ground beneath him. Shackles latching onto both his wrists.

He fought back. Froze the bloody chains which had hardened like rock. Then with sheer brute strength he shattered them and broke himself free.

But the moment he did, pressure hit him from behind which was both massive and crushing. His face was driven into the blood pooling beneath him. Drowning. Choking.

Behind him stood a golem. A massive construct of pure dark red blood that had risen from the ocean at Elira’s command. It had pinned Leon with just one leg pressing into his back.

And that wasn’t all. More shackles. More chains. All made of ancient blood. They materialized from every direction and locked onto his limbs, his torso, his ankles. Pinning him to the ground like a wild beast being captured and chained for display.

Elira walked toward the struggling Leon who was fighting to breathe with his face submerged in the blood. She helped him cope with his misery as the blood began receding from around his head. Just enough to let him gasp.

Ahead of his face, a throne materialized from the blood. Rising out of the dark red ocean like it had always been waiting there for its queen to sit.

Elira walked past his pinned body and sat down. Crossed one leg over the other. Then reached down with her foot and raised his chin. Forcing him to look up at her from his chained position on the ground.

Her voice came out cold and authoritative. Each word landing like a gavel in a court that had already decided the verdict.

"What did you say? You can beat me on my own turf? In my own domain?"

Her eyes looked down at him with the expression of an evil queen and said with a heavy tone.

"IN MY OWN CASTLE..."

And as those words left her lips, the blood around them stirred. It started moving. Dancing. Flowing with purpose. Building walls. Raising pillars. Constructing archways and corridors and a ceiling that blocked out the sky.

In under a minute, a fortress had formed around them. A massive castle of ancient blood with only one room at its heart.

The throne room or The judgment room or rather The execution room.
