Chapter 291: Chapter 291 : Who The Fuck Tells A Story By Punching?

Zharina continued. "I protested his decision. Told him to reconsider what he was doing. Asked him if there was any other way out of this. Begged him to just run. Leave this place. Live somewhere else where they couldn’t find him."

Her voice hardened. "But no. There was no such option. Not for him. And not for me."

She looked at her gauntlets.

"I still remember his face. The pain hiding behind that smile he put on just to give me confidence. He told me that Celestials never truly die. That their souls are sent back to the primordial gods. And if the gods showed mercy, he would be reincarnated."

A pause.

"But I don’t think that mercy ever came. It’s been seven years now. And if he had been reincarnated, the power fused into these gauntlets would have been called back to him."

Jax was still processing her story when she charged again. Already closing the distance between them.

"Let me tell you why I chose to become a professor instead of taking the luxuries I was offered."

She was in the air now. Fist drawn back. Golden aura blazing.

Jax dodged sideways while shouting. "You surely had one mad master! I mean, who the fuck teaches someone to tell a story by beating the other person half to death?!"

She just smiled. Her body was leaking golden aura as she came down with enough force to reshape geography. Jax launched himself toward her trajectory, reading the angle of descent, and rolled clean past the point of impact.

Zharina couldn’t stop mid-attack. Her fist connected with the arena floor and the entire ground trembled. Even the spectators in the stands felt a slight shaking despite the advanced protective magic layered on the arena boundaries.

Jax had planted his knees the moment he rolled out of range. He wasn’t going to waste the opening she had just handed him. Her fist was buried in the crater she had just created. Stuck in the ground. And he was standing right behind her.

He charged at her exposed side with his sword aimed at her stomach. But Zharina sensed it coming. She didn’t bother pulling her fist free. Instead she concentrated on her legs and launched a forceful side kick aimed directly at his throat.

But Jax had predicted that before she even thought of it. He was the one who made sure she would use her feet. He had angled himself deliberately into a position where she had no proper footing on the ground and her free hand couldn’t reach him in time.

He slipped past the trajectory of her kick. Then positioned himself behind her raised leg on purpose. Making Zharina believe she could fold her knee backward and crush his perfectly exposed neck from behind.

And she fell for it.

She did exactly what he wanted. And Jax simply slipped out again. Now she was completely locked. One hand underground. The other on the wrong side of her body with no angle to bring it back. One foot grounded for balance. The other extended from the failed kick with no way to retract fast enough.

She was played. Trapped in a position that had no clean counter.

Jax grinned and slashed at her vulnerable gut while saying. "Looks like the rest of this story will have to continue on our lovely date."

His sword connected with her abdomen. But instead of cutting through, he felt a strange resistance. A shield of some kind protecting her body beneath the surface. He was shocked. He hadn’t held back on that strike. He knew her dragon body would be tough but this was something else entirely.

Then he saw the grin on Zharina’s face. She slowly pulled her fist from the ground. Planted both feet back. And before Jax could create distance, her knee drove into his stomach as payback.

The impact folded him in half.

"You still don’t understand the gap between us?" She said looking down at him. "You can’t even touch me. Let alone defeat me."

Jax clutched his guts and stumbled backward, creating as much distance as his legs would allow.

Zharina didn’t pursue. Instead she continued her story as if she hadn’t just rearranged his internal organs.

"My master, Hercules, came down to the mortal world knowing full well the consequences he would face under the law of the Empyrean Realm. He chose this academy. Chose to protect it. Train its students. Dedicate his entire life to it."

She looked at the arena walls around them.

"And why? Because this academy had been mentioned in the world’s fate. His stepmother, Themis, the wife of Zeus, had envisioned a cruel future through the power she wielded. She saw the already corrupted upper realm descending into more cruelty. More wars for dominance. And in that process, the entire mortal world would suffer alongside it."

Her voice steadied into something that sounded less like a fighter and more like a student reciting the last lesson her master ever gave her.

"She had seen many possibilities through her power. And among those possibilities, there was one where this academy becomes the cure. Where Astryx Academy plays a critical role. Where this very land either gives birth to someone capable of changing everything, or becomes the reason for humbling and ruling over the upper realm itself."

She clenched her fists.

"That’s why I chose this path. Not for charity. Not for the world. I wanted to walk in my master’s footsteps. To make sure nothing corrupts what he protected. That no politics ruins the students here. That I can do whatever it takes to make them stronger."

Her voice dropped.

"Because by fulfilling his last wish, maybe, just maybe, the person this academy is destined to produce will have the power to do what I couldn’t, to save him. And who knows, maybe that person can bring my fath—"

She caught herself. "My master. Back to life."

Jax had recovered enough to stand. He asked inside his mind. ’Hey, witch. Can you confirm what she’s saying? Is any of this real?’

The voice of Echidna replied lazily. ’Hercules, huh. He was a nice guy actually. But I didn’t know he was stupid enough to throw his life away like that. That poor man suffered more than most beings in existence. So maybe he just wanted it to end. Or maybe he knew something we aren’t seeing.’

She paused.

’Anyways, I can confirm the story she told. Zeus is the ambitious Celestial. Similar to Odin and Ravana and the others. They all want the same thing. To rule the upper realm. The politics up there make your little academy drama look like a children’s tea party.’

[A/N: Second Chapter for the day drops in a few hours! Also an important note on the new additions — I’ve brought in Greek gods, Norse gods and a few other beings but their stories won’t follow the actual mythology. Also don’t compare these celestials to beings like Cleenah, they are on a whole different level and the next Chapter will explain the hierarchy of gods properly!]
