Chapter 297: Chapter 297 : Godhood Sounds Fun, But First — Her Legs

Astrid said while still processing the shock and panic of being caught red-handed. "You... you were awake this whole time?!"

Jax said casually. "Of course. And why wouldn’t I be? I’m not fool enough to fall asleep next to a goofball who could end my life in my sleep. Or..."

The grin appeared. "Or do some dirty things to me. Which, by the way, you were already getting started with."

Astrid sat up on the bed instantly and launched into her defense. "Hey! It’s not what you think! I was feeling sleepy and that’s the only reason I hopped on the bed!"

Jax looked at her with suspicious eyes. "Then care to explain why I was wrapped in your arms?"

Astrid fired back without a millisecond of hesitation. "Because I can’t sleep without cuddling my plushie. And in his absence, I gave you the honor of being his replacement."

Then she switched. From culprit to accuser in under a heartbeat. "Is there a problem with that? Or are you forgetting your duties as my slave?"

Jax said. "Of course not, ma’am. But there was this one question disturbing me. Do you often kiss your plushie the way you just kissed me? On the lips?"

Astrid’s foot connected with his body and pushed him off the bed until he dropped to the cold floor and screamed in pain from the impact on his already destroyed body.

She didn’t care. She laid down on his bed, turned away from his direction, and said. "That’s what you get for showing cleverness to your master. Now sleep on the cold floor. Take it as your punishment."

Then she added without turning. "And as for your question, I kissed you to have my revenge. So don’t take it otherwise."

Jax said from the floor. "That’s completely unfair. I am the patient here and you just hijacked this poor man’s resting place in his miserable condition. What will the healer think when he walks in tomorrow and finds his patient shivering on the ground while the visitor is enjoying his bed?"

Astrid said. "Don’t worry about him. He won’t be able to see anything for quite some time. Let alone disturb us again."

Jax said with genuine worry. "What did you do to that poor man? He was really nice, you know?"

Astrid said it like she was describing the weather. "What? I just ordered a curse of blindness to be placed on him and on my knight. For just one month. That’s not even one percent of the punishment they deserved for not following my orders."

She adjusted the pillow beneath her head. "I spared them only because of my good mood after today’s win."

Jax said. "You are so cruel, you know that right?"

No reply came. And then silence stretched between them for more than an hour.

Jax finally stood from the ground. His body protested every movement but he managed to look at Astrid who was clutching the pillow while sleeping. Her arms were wrapped around it so tightly that the fabric was straining against her grip.

Jax realized that she wasn’t lying about the plushie habit.

So he slowly pulled the pillow from her hands and placed it beneath her head properly. Then he joined her on the bed and gently placed her arm over himself.

She hugged him instantly. Tighter than the pillow ever got. Her body finding its way into his without any conscious input.

He gave a kiss on the crown of her head and whispered. "Goodnight, my adorable little tyrant."

Astrid tried her absolute hardest to not twitch. To not blush. To not let a single muscle on her face betray her. She was grinning internally at her revenge being a complete success.

But more than the victory, she felt the warmth. His hold got tighter until her face was buried into his half-naked, half-bandaged chest. The heartbeat beneath the wrappings was steady. Alive. Hers.

By the time sleep actually took her, she had already decided this was the best night of her life. And she wanted it to last forever with him.

Five days had passed since the tournament finale.

Jax couldn’t enjoy the closing celebration that marked the end of the event. Neither was he there to grab the trophy. His body had refused to cooperate with anything beyond lying in bed and breathing for the first three days.

And to make matters worse, he gained almost nothing from the victory apart from the bet he had won. He was simply told he would climb the ranks among the professors and receive a salary increment for all his effort. Meanwhile the students were given the chance to choose any item from the academy’s vault as their reward.

Also Roxana had been promoted as well. Her designation changed from assistant professor to full professor. Which meant she would soon receive her own mansion and her own assistant. Her dream of stepping out of Jax’s shadow was finally fulfilled.

But for some reason she couldn’t explain, it didn’t feel good.

Anyway, right now Jax was sitting in his carriage buzzing with a very specific kind of excitement. He was traveling toward Sianna’s territory to claim his reward from the bet. And more importantly, the devotion points that lay between her legs.

He was in a hurry. Things had been taking a sharp turn recently which is why the moment he was discharged, he rushed straight to her doorstep.

Jax was about to get very busy. The commencement of the new academic year and his classes would start in just two days. And he knew this year would bring far more trouble than the last one. Several champions had likely sneaked their way into the academy by now.

To confirm his suspicions, news had arrived that Harry had been killed inside the highest-security prison in the land. Murdered behind walls that were supposed to be impenetrable.

And then there were the Celestials chasing him. Power was what he needed. And that power currently resided between Sianna’s thighs.

Echidna spoke up as she was experiencing the outside world through Jax’s vision. "Wow. Seeing this much advancement by the mortals really makes me feel old."

Jax said. "Ah, I completely forgot about you. Well, I need you to either leave my body or close your eyes and ears for the time being. Because you really won’t be able to handle what’s coming."

She said. "Haven’t I told you already? I can’t leave because of mother. I’ve been bonded to you until either your death or the destruction of my real body."

Jax said. "Then don’t curse me afterwards. By the way, who exactly is this mother of yours?"

Pride filled her voice immediately. "She is the almighty god. The strongest primordial among all of them. I don’t know everything about her but yeah she was once a mortal. A mortal who climbed the ranks through her brilliant mind and trickery. She even managed to attain godhood and then went a step further."

She paused for emphasis. "She killed the almighty god himself. And took his place. Not too long ago actually. Maybe five hundred years or so."

Her voice softened slightly. "It was around that same time when she saved me. I was dying from experiments being conducted on me when I was a child. She gave me a fraction of her power and it made me what I am today."

Jax said without a trace of irony. "She sounds like an interesting character. I should test her as well when I challenge her for the seat. After I attain godhood. Or whatever that process involves."

Echidna started laughing. The kind of laugh that comes from hearing something so absurdly delusional that the brain has no other response available.

Jax ignored it completely. Because at that exact moment the carriage came to a stop. He looked through the window and spotted a castle that was practically radiating wealth from every stone and window.
