Chapter 306 : My Max Level Can’t Reach Them... (What The Fuck)

Chapter 306: Chapter 306 : My Max Level Can’t Reach Them... (What The Fuck)

<Next day>

Jax stood outside the dungeon gate of Vistara. The same dungeon that was promised by Claude to the academy recently. The same dungeon now being used as an evaluation test because of its unique functioning.

Jax thought. ’I was worrying for no reason. It’s just giving marks to some students assigned to me for a dungeon raid. Which will last three hours max. About the same time as his lecture with them so there was no actual loss.’

But those "some students" would be problem children. Just as Seraphina and the others had warned him.

He looked at the marking sheet provided to him for scoring their performance. Four names were written on it.

Then he turned to his assigned students. And it was really easy to spot them among the entire first-year crowd. Because they were different from everyone else.

Unlike other groups who stood together discussing strategies and introductions, Jax’s group stood at polar opposites from one another. Each one alone. No one dared to approach them. Or they simply didn’t allow it. Also, each of their families held a position of influence within the Royal/Power hierarchy.

Jax spotted the first student. Pale skin. Blonde hair. Vampire ears. All packaged with a beautiful face that was currently glaring at him with enough hatred to melt steel.

He scanned her name from the list. Delphine Rouveaux. The daughter of Sianna. Who still held a grudge against Jax. Against the man who had spent the entire previous days loyally by her mother’s side, selflessly tending to the crippling loneliness that had built up during the long and painful absence of her late husband. A true gentleman’s service and yet still hated.

Then there was the second student. Evangeline N. Eisfeld. An elf who was supposed to be from some top guild. Right now she was ignoring the stares of everyone around her and even turned away when she saw a girl approaching to introduce herself.

The third was going to be more of a pain in the ass than the other two combined. She was the granddaughter of the Mage Tower headmistress, the Archmage. Athanasia L. Valterre. Seraphina had specifically warned Jax to stay inches away from this one. Not only was she powerful but she gave off the vibe of someone who had a villain arc written into her DNA.

And lastly, the sister of senior professor Kessiri Talli’nah. The catwoman.

Jax thought. ’This one would be a chaos lover just like her sister. But speaking of her, where the hell is she?’

He started scanning the crowd. Then someone grabbed his arm from behind and screamed at him.

"BOO!"

Jax turned to see who had the audacity to touch him. And found the missing catwoman. Lavinia Talli’nah.

The girl was clinging to him, pressing her way-too-mature and oversized chest against his arm while grinning. "Tsk. I should have known my effort to scare you would go in vain maybe I should have gone with a RAWR!"

Jax backed off immediately and said. "Enough of your games. If I ever see you doing this again I will cut down that chest on the spot."

Lavinia pouted. "You are no fun, Professor. Your are such a meanie. I just wanted to have some fun during this boring wait."

Jax said. "If you’re that bored then why not bring your group to me? I’ve been told the exam is about to start."

Lavinia said. "That’s no fun either. And besides, those girls surely aren’t the friendly type. So I would prefer not to—"

Then she caught his gaze. And whatever she saw in those eyes made her swallow the rest of that sentence.

"Fine. I’ll go get them."

She walked off defeated toward Athanasia first.

Some time passed and students were already being sent through the dungeon gates in batches. The dungeon was a special kind of place that had trained Claude’s army for ages. It would take volunteers into different realms filled with monsters for them to hunt.

When Jax’s group’s turn came, he turned to his four students and said. "Listen carefully. You are free to do as you please. Kill or be killed, it makes no difference to me. Just make sure you don’t drag me into your mess. Also don’t bother complaining about the marking. If your score is low, it’s not bias."

A faint smirk appeared. "It simply means you’re weak."

Moments later they walked through the dungeon gate. As they entered the white space, a message echoed through the air around them.

[Scanning hunters’ prowess and levels...]

[11%...]

[36%...]

[100%...]

[Scan complete. Selecting a world suited for the hunters. Calibrating difficulty.]

A pause.

[Taking longer than expected.]

[Hunters’ levels are too high for standard adjustments.]

[Still synchronizing difficulty levels.]

Another pause.

[Found a perfect match. Teleporting the hunters to a hidden trial that matches their combined power.]

[Trial Objective: Kill the witch who will be the reason for the apocalypse of the world.]

[Note: Only after saving the world can the hunters return.]

Everyone was confused about what had just happened. But before anyone could question it, the white space vanished and they found themselves standing in a dense forest.

Jax said. "Now that you know what to do, get started. Kill the witch and get it over with."

No one gave a second thought to what just occurred. They had heard that dungeons commonly assigned tasks like killing demon lords or specific monsters. So they ignored the dramatic wording and moved on.

Before any of them could formulate a plan, trolls, minotaurs, goblins, and a swarm of slimes appeared from the bushes sensing fresh prey. But instead of coordinating an attack, the monsters started fighting each other over who would get the feast.

The slimes slipped through the chaos and latched onto Lavinia. They started dissolving her clothes on contact. She put on a performance of fake tears. "Someone please help this poor damsel! These monsters are taking my innocence and youth alike!"

Jax said flatly. "Minus five for cheap acting."

Lavinia clicked her tongue and crushed the slime in her fist before pouting at him. "Honestly. Such a cold man."

The remaining monsters abandoned their civil war and charged at the group.

Jax watched his students in the meantime. First Athanasia, who had absolutely no interest in the fight. She didn’t want to get herself dirty fighting small fries. But she was sniffing something in the air.

Same went for Evangeline who completely ignored the incoming monsters. She didn’t care about the exam or the ranking.

Delphine was the only serious one. She had her bow ready and was already reading trajectories.

While Lavinia was being Lavinia. Playful as ever.

So Jax took the opportunity to confirm his suspicion. He activated his body-swapping skill to check whether any champion had taken their place or maybe possessed their body.

First came Delphine. He used the skill on her.

[TARGET FOUND]

[NAME: UNDEFINED]

[CONFIRM? YES / NO]

Name undefined meant she was no champion. And the confirm block appearing gave one more piece of information. Her level was lower than his otherwise it would have refused to use the skill.

He did the same for Evangeline. Same result popped up. No champion and Lower level.

Then came his next target. Athanasia.

Jax thought. ’The fuck? I maxed out. So how in the hell...’

He stared at the girl who was casually sniffing the forest air like she was judging the quality of the breeze.

’Wait. Is she that strong?’

No answer was showing up. He knew that after his upgrade he was definitely stronger than anyone in the academy. Even Lysandra would be no match for him now. But this first-year student was registering above his max level.

Then he turned to the last target. Lavinia. The catwoman who was currently scrunching her nose in disgust while cleaning the slime from her fingers.

’What the hell is going on?’
