Chapter 2818 - 2827: Meeting with Adam Sinclair
Chapter 2818: Chapter 2827: Meeting with Adam Sinclair
"Mom, the person is helping our family, yet you’re talking bad about them behind their back. That’s not right. I know what I’m doing; I believe she’s not that kind of person. I haven’t meddled in their affairs; I’m just looking for Adam to see if I can learn something about Dad." Austin Harper pulled his mother’s hand away, "Alright, Mom, I have to go now. I can’t be late."
"Be careful of Renee Anderson!" Mrs. Harper watched as he refused to listen to her, feeling both angry and annoyed, yet helpless, she could only watch him leave in a hurry and shouted at his back.
The only response was Austin Harper’s retreating figure without a backward glance.
The servant was saying again that the Old Lady had fainted from crying. Mrs. Harper didn’t have time to deal with that and hurriedly went to care for her mother-in-law.
...
Austin Harper had arranged to meet at a small tavern, co-owned with a wining and dining friend.
He had informed the bartender in advance that there would be no public service today.
When he arrived, Adam Sinclair was already there, sitting at the bar drinking. Austin Harper walked over with his car keys in hand, pulled out a high stool next to him, and sat down.
"You made it?"
"I wouldn’t have been delayed for so long; my mom insisted on talking to me for a while." He asked the bartender to bring him a vodka, clinked glasses with Adam, took a sip, and asked, "Is your wife alright?"
"She’s fine, just got shot in the right shoulder, and the bullet has been removed." Adam took a sip of his cocktail too; despite its complex taste, he frowned without saying anything.
Austin Harper was preoccupied with his family’s affairs, distractedly responding, "Oh, glad to hear your wife’s okay. Otherwise, I’d feel guilty calling you out. I’ll buy some fruit and visit her another day. By the way, have you found out who shot at her?"
Adam’s dark Peach Blossom Eyes landed on him, carrying an air of mystery. Feeling uneasy under his gaze, Austin laughed and patted him, "What are you doing looking at me like that? I almost thought I was the bastard who shot at your wife. Come, let’s drink."
Adam raised his glass, clinked it with Austin’s. His mood was complicated, so he downed the cocktail in one go.
The liquor burned his throat, uncomfortable and intense. He reached to loosen the tie at his collar, squinted, the muscles in his cheeks taut.
Austin Harper was right; Olivia Lewis’s shot was very much like one he had fired.
It was fired by someone from the Harper Family!
But the mastermind was Wesley.
Wesley informed the Harper Family that Baron was going after them, causing them to take a reckless gamble to send a warning to Baron.
As a result, that foolish woman took a bullet for her friend.
He knew what Austin was looking for him for; he wouldn’t help Austin nor the Harper Family. He was only meeting up because they grew up together, fought together, at least to tell him why he wouldn’t help.
Austin Harper was unaware of his thoughts, just as he finished his drink, the phone placed on the table vibrated, it was Renee Anderson on the Caller ID.
Feeling delighted, he picked up the phone, stood up, and said, "Adam, hold on, I’m going to take a friend’s call."
"What friend?"
"You’ll find out soon." He took the phone to the bar entrance.
Adam rested half-closed his eyes on the bar, pondering how to explain things clearly to him later. Just then, the person who went outside returned. But it wasn’t Austin Harper who came back, it was Renee Anderson whom Adam hadn’t seen in a long time!
