Chapter 3057: Chapter 3066: The First Time She Saw Him Smoking in Front of Her
This was the first time she’d ever seen this man smoke.
Adam Sinclair rarely smoked.
Or rather, he rarely smoked in front of her.
He was usually all easy smiles and unhurried, aristocratic composure. As he aged, he gradually shifted from devil-may-care to slowly becoming more mature; most of the time he came across as steady and enigmatic, the kind of person whose thoughts you could never quite read.
But because they’d already been together for more than four years, other people might feel they couldn’t see through the true nature hidden beneath his elegant, noble exterior, yet she knew him very well.
This man wasn’t someone you could afford to mess with, but he also wasn’t overwhelmingly domineering.
He was more like a composite.
Good upbringing, a considerate personality, and keen powers of observation—and of course, that possessiveness every man has toward his own girlfriend.
He had everything, except he almost never lost control.
He wasn’t like Young Master Lawrence from Enna’s family, high-handed but straightforward.
He was extremely good at hiding his emotions; even when he was angry, outsiders rarely saw it.
So things like smoking—a blatant way to ease agitation—were something Olivia Lewis almost never saw him do.
Seeing him smoking now, the rage that had just flared up inside her somehow burned itself out.
"Just give me three more days. Three days from now I’ll have the test report. I’m sure I didn’t touch her that afternoon. Even if I was drugged, I didn’t do anything to her!" After half a cigarette, the pent-up agitation in Adam Sinclair’s chest gradually eased. When he finished, he flicked away the cigarette, pulled her into his arms in one swift motion, and forced the words out, "Don’t bring up divorce again. I’m not divorcing you. If you still don’t believe me when the results come out, I’ll look for other evidence. I’ll keep going until you believe me."
The tip of Olivia Lewis’s heart softened in an instant. "It’s not that I don’t believe you didn’t sleep with her. I’m mad because why didn’t you tell me right away that she drugged you?"
Adam Sinclair’s chest trembled; his voice came from above her head. "You were badly injured and had just come off the operating table. You’d only just woken up. How was I supposed to tell you?"
She’d just been wheeled out of the operating room and was still unconscious when Austin Harper called. He’d thought the bar was relatively close to the Hospital, and there were matters with the Harper Family that needed handling, so he squeezed out the time to go over. Who could have guessed Renee Anderson would suddenly show up later, and that before she even appeared, the bartender had already put something in his drink.
He’d been careless then, but he had to admit Renee’s scheming was the deepest he’d ever seen.
Her tricks came in endless variations and sometimes left people with no way to defend against them.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to tell her—he was too ashamed to. And he was afraid that, having just woken up, hearing about something like this would affect her recovery; in the end he chose to deal with it himself first, to settle it as much as possible without her ever finding out.
He just hadn’t expected Renee to be that vicious. To escape the truth, she actually went to the Hospital herself to make trouble for Olivia Lewis, tried to get rid of the baby in her belly, and then pinned the baby’s death on Olivia.
Fortunately Tobias Clark had been there at the time.
If Bobby hadn’t been there that day, who knew what it would’ve turned into.
"Before I could get any evidence to clear my name, I had no way to tell you. I couldn’t bear the possible consequences of telling you."
Olivia Lewis’s personality looked carefree and willful on the surface, but she was actually someone with very strong principles.
