Chapter 345: Chapter 157: First Meeting with His Children, Zhao Feng’s Excitement! (Part 2)

"A twenty-year-old Senior General?"

"How is that possible?"

"This truly is an eye-opener."

"An eye-opener indeed, but this is what General Zhao Feng deserves. Looking across the entire court and the whole army, which War General possesses military accolades like Senior General Zhao Feng?"

"If one were to say that the other great and noble families are not convincing enough, then consider Senior General Zhao Feng. He climbed his way up from being a commoner, step by step on his own merits, without any backing. The reason the Great King appointed him as Senior General is not only due to his truly great achievements but also because the Great King wishes to use this to inspire the millions of Qin’s Sharp Warriors."

"I heard that the Great King has already issued a Royal Edict. The edict regarding Senior General Zhao Feng’s rewards will be proclaimed throughout the land as an encouragement."

"The Qin of today is truly the strongest and most just it has been in a hundred years..."

Watching Zhao Feng’s figure, many commoners began to discuss him. As the Capital of Great Qin, news from the court always spreads fastest here. After all, with the servants of many Ministers possibly bragging while out and about, or through relatives and acquaintances, it wasn’t surprising that some information would leak.

Traveling without obstruction, he soon arrived before the Royal Mansion.

"My lord, we’ve arrived." Zhang Ming dismounted and took hold of the reins of Zhao Feng’s horse.

"The Royal Mansion."

Zhao Feng looked up. This residence was located less than a street away from the Royal Palace, a symbol of status that only a high-ranking Minister of Qin could possess.

At that moment, the servants and the steward from inside the Royal Mansion quickly came out to greet him, calling out respectfully, "Welcome home, Young Master-in-law."

"Where is my father-in-law?" Zhao Feng asked immediately. "And Wang Yan?"

He could barely hide his anticipation.

"Young Master-in-law, the lord and the others are waiting for you inside," an elderly steward said respectfully as he approached Zhao Feng. "As for the Young Miss, she is still taking care of the young master and the young miss."

Regarding this new son-in-law of the Wang Family, they wouldn’t dare be rude. Even without his status as their son-in-law, the man before them was the Senior General of Qin.

"Good." Zhao Feng nodded and strode into the Royal Mansion.

This was his first time in Xianyang and his first time visiting his father-in-law’s home. As soon as he entered the estate, he saw Wang Jian and a middle-aged woman. His brother-in-law, Wang Ben, was also there. And, of course, so was Wang Yan—the woman who had given him his first taste of forbidden fruit and had borne him two children. The entire Wang Family had come out to welcome him.

"Zhao Feng."

Seeing him again, Wang Yan’s emotions were incredibly complex. Standing there, she felt apprehensive and uneasy, unsure how she should face him.

Zhao Feng naturally noticed her expression. He smiled faintly, walked over to her, and pulled her directly into his arms.

"Yan’er," Zhao Feng said tenderly. "You’ve worked hard these past few years."

Although he and Wang Yan did not share the love of childhood sweethearts, they had at least survived life-and-death situations together and shared a night of passion. In this era, unless people truly grew up together as childhood sweethearts, romantic love was a rarity. There were the orders of one’s parents and the words of a matchmaker, and alliances were often forged through the marriages of the powerful and noble. That was simply the way of the times.

"Zhao Feng."

Wang Yan buried her head in his embrace. Listening to his words, the worries in her heart vanished completely. Zhao Feng... he has me in his heart. That is enough.

"Are you Daddy?" a little boy beside Wang Yan asked, looking up at Zhao Feng with curiosity. The little girl next to him watched with the same curious gaze.

Hearing himself called ’Daddy’, Zhao Feng felt as if his very soul had been touched. He released Wang Yan and squatted down, sweeping both his children into his arms.

"Yes, I’m your Daddy," Zhao Feng said, his face beaming.

Looking at his two children, Zhao Feng’s gaze was impossibly gentle and affectionate. These are my son and daughter.

"Daddy!" the two little ones immediately called out, clinging affectionately to his legs.

Even though Zhao Feng hadn’t been home, Wang Yan had always told them how wonderful their daddy was and how he was fighting at war for them.

"Heh," Zhao Feng responded with a wide smile, lifting one child into each arm. "Who is Big Treasure, and who is Little Treasure?" he asked with a laugh.

"I’m the older brother," the boy said.

"I’m the younger sister," the girl added.

"Mr. Zhao," Wang Jian said with a laugh, "we were just waiting for you to come back and name them. I was originally going to do it myself, but that girl of mine, Yan’er, sided with you and insisted on waiting for your return."

Zhao Feng smiled at Wang Yan, then said, "I’ve already thought of their names. I spent a lot of time thinking about them on the battlefield. It is only right that I name my own children." He looked at them. "The boy shall be named Zhao Qi, and the girl Zhao Ling."

"Excellent names," Wang Jian said with a smile. "They’re memorable and seem to carry a deeper meaning."

"Big Treasure, from now on your name is Zhao Qi. And Second Treasure, your name is Zhao Ling," Zhao Feng said, looking tenderly at his children. "These are the names your daddy has given you. Do you like them?"

"We like them!"

Although the two toddlers were not yet two years old and didn’t grasp the full meaning of a name, they were overjoyed to see their kind and affectionate father.

"Brother-in-law," Wang Ben said, walking over and clapping Zhao Feng on the shoulder. "This time, no matter what, you have to stay for my wedding banquet before you leave. Otherwise, I won’t let you marry Yan’er."

"Don’t worry, brother-in-law," Zhao Feng assured him. "I’ll not only attend your wedding banquet, but Fusu’s as well."
