Chapter 399 - You Are Not a Pet
Chapter 399 - You Are Not a Pet
"Oh! Finally you got yourself around to buy it," Carlos said, stretching his arms and cracking his knuckles.
"Well... I think now that I can afford it, and that we won some events, having the dedicated system would be good. Also, it's safer to train Maggie that way." Noah averted his gaze as Carlos started changing without any warning. "And you could have asked me to go outside."
"Eh? Since when do you care about it? Also, it would take longer that way. I'm getting hungry already," Carlos said, hastily putting his clothes on and walking to the closet, which had a small mirror. "Also, we eating chicken, ey?" He turned around as he combed his hair now dressed as he did when he was late. That is, slathered with gel.
"Did you get to hear that all the way here?" Noah asked, before remembering something. "Oh, I'll get going to get ready..." he said, making Carlos turn around.
"So I didn't have to hurry at all?" he asked, drawing a deep breath and crosshing his arms with a stare.
"I forgot to tell you, but since I'm still wearing fucking pajamas I thought you would have noticed," Noah said snarkily, before standing up and out the door.
"Fair enough, I'll be waiting at the living-room." Noah heard him say from behind him, raising his hand to excuse himself as he vanished in a ball of fire and emerging in his own room. The door to Carlos's room was locked, and he didn't feel like unlocking it, considering the presences behind it.
'These people either have a lot of free time or...' he thought, but stopped while shaking his head. Of course at least some of the many maids would have those tendencies. Either way, it could be a blessing or a curse, depending on the person, but he had no interest in those matters.
'Guess I better not hire that many people for my place,' he thought, not knowing reality would not be kind to him in that regard.
As he sunk into the bath and closed his eyes, Noah found himself again in that cursed dreamland, that he couldn't move or do anything, cursed to watch history take its course. But, this time, something was different.
'Weird...' he thought, as his eyes saw nothing, all black.
"Luci..." a female sounding voice called him, as he slowly began to feel a plethora of sensations. The silk under his body, he was laying. The wind caressing his body, he was naked. And the warmth of someone's body against his.
"I love you. You already know that, right?" the voice muttered into his ear, sweet and venomous. A voice Noah knew all too well.
'Lilith?' he thought, just in time to hear the voice that left his mouth confirm his thoughts. "I love you too, Lilly."
And the sensation on his body changed, as he felt the warm heat move upon him, and lips upon his, which lasted a minute, before all feelings vanished, and he again felt nothing.
'... What in the world did I just experience?' the confused Noah stared into the abyss of nothingness, feeling the abyss stare back at him. 'Just how long will I stay here?' he asked himself, wondering why nothing was happening, only to see a pair of slitted purple eyes in the distance, staring at him with fervor.
'Lilith?' he thought, as he stared at them, which grew in size massively, until he saw himself looking up to them. They were definitely looking at him, staring down from above like a star stared down on the worlds that orbit it. Gigantic, intangible, and simply regal.
"Noah?" the voice called for him. It was the one and only time he was regarded by his own name in this world, where he didn't exist.
"Yeah, it's me," he responded, for the first time using his voice, and the eyes diminished, until they were looking at him from only slightly above his line of sight, their size that of a human's, yet, they felt closer than ever before.
"Thank you," she said, as he only now realized he had no body. He, like her, was just a pair of eyes floating. Although he could not know the color of them.
"NOAH!" He jumped up in fright at the yell in his ear, splashing water everywhere as he stood on the bathtub.
Lilith gulped a mouthful of water, shaking her head, as she slid up his body. "Ei, what the heck was that?!" she asked, while Noah slowly grasped reality, touching his arms to make sure they were still there.
"Like hell do I know? What was that place?" he asked, astonished, only to be rebutted by Lilith.
"The heck are you talking about? I'm asking about fucking jumping and throwing me into the water!" she lassoed his neck, staring at him in the eye from an inch away. The image from just before growing bigger in his mind and making his entire body shiver.
"We need to talk," he said, averting his gaze, and grabbing her with care, peeling her from his body.
"Hey, hey... HEY!" she called him out, at first confused, but now, with anger. "What the hell?! You pass out in the bath, almost drown me, and now you just say we need to talk... Are you alright?" she asked, while Noah let her on the ground and grabbed his towel, drying himself incompletely and headed out of the bathroom.
"Don't ignore me," she said, squinting, slithering her way behind the boy, who sat on the bed and finished drying himself while staring at a fixed point, still trying to swallow everything that happened just now. "Noah? Are you alright?" Lilith asked, sliding up the bed, as she waited for Noah to wind back down. "What in the world happened to you?" she asked, seeing him not behave like himself.
"Remember those dreams I have? Of Lucifer's memory?" he asked, sliding his hands on one another.
"Of course I do," she said, coiling herself by his side, trying to think. "But don't you have them while sleeping? Everyone was worried you were taking too long to leave the bath. You were in there for over an hour and half."
"I see..." he muttered, disconnected from reality still. "This time it happened in a weird way... So, tell me, why would you cover Lucifer's eyes while sleeping with him?" he asked as if it were nothing, turning to see the snake's reaction.
"It's not like that. Lucifer said light gave him nightmares about heaven, so I would always blindfold him when he went to bed... Wait, how do you know about this?!" she exclaimed, lungin upwards like a snake would attack, but only to look at Noah. "... Wait, since when do I remember about this?" she shriveled back into a ball, as she realized her memories had become clearer. "Oh my Lord...
I was... I am..." she muttered, in broken words, and Noah looked down to see the snake covering her eyes with her tail.
"This time, I was there, while the two of you were together. I couldn't see, but..." Noah said, swallowing dry, and sighed. He walked to the wardrobe, and put on his clothes, waiting for the snake to say something, which happened as he was almost done already.
"I was in my human form, wasn't I?" she asked, clearly ashamed.
"Yes, you were," Noah responded in a one-liner, making the snake draw a sigh.
"Is that why you put me on the ground there," she asked, slithering down the bed and coiling onto him once again. "I don't mind, I really don't," she told him, making Noah bite his lip.
"But I do. You're not a pet, you're a woman, Lilith. How can I have you coiling around me, sleeping with me, and—" he started talking, but got interrupted by the snake, whose size increased, and coiled once on his neck while touching the side of his face with her head.
"Look, I am your companion and your contracted demon. And above all, you saved me. If you want to see me like that, wait until I have regained my human form, so I can at least respond to it properly. For now, just let me live in a way that makes me happy," she said, leaving Noah confused.
"And what way would that be?" he asked, furrowing his brows as he imagined what way of living would make the gigantic and god-like snake he saw in those dreams happy.
"Like normal. Clinging to you and helping you and the people you love. You stupidly dense descendant," she said, shaking her head slowly and sliding down his body back onto the floor. "Thank you," she said, as she made her way toward the door, leaving Noah behind with his thoughts.
After a good minute, Noah walked out of the room, still slightly shaken, but now calmer.
"Finally! I thought you had died in there," Carlos' voice rang as he stepped onto the corridor, only to be followed by the quick and rhythmic noises of Bel and Maggie's feet surring towards him.
"Noah!" their voices echoed in unison, as the two hugged him.
"Lilith also woke up! Let's go all together," Bel said with a broad smile, making Noah smile in response while putting his hand on the boy's head.
"Alright, alright. We're going now," he said, as he stroked Maggie's hair while she giggled.
"You're footing the bill today for making me way, you fucker," Carlos said with a sarcastic smile, which made Noah laugh inside at how pissed he was.
"Sorry, Ma'am, I got you covered," he said, as the kids let go of him so he could walk, and ran towards the room to call for the girls. "Now that I think of it, where's Alice?" he asked, as he just now noticed he had not seen her even since going to his room.
