Chapter 460: Backstory
Chapter 460: Backstory
Luis said in a joking tone, "Deewa, then how much should I pay you?"
Deewa suddenly looked out the car window and said, "If you want to mess with Anglo, then treat last time as a free reward. Next time, if you’re still interested, I’ll charge you."
The words sounded somewhat inexplicable, carrying a slightly oppressive and eerie feeling.
The previous impression of Deewa was that of a flamboyant vixen who never concealed her materialistic and manipulative nature. She was so frank that it even reached a point of admiration.
Only now did Luis carefully observe her and suddenly make a strange discovery.
It was true that she had dressed up meticulously today, but the clothes she wore seemed very plain in style and not any famous brand. They only looked particularly good because she herself was beautiful.
The bag was indeed an LV, but it was an old one, the same not-so-valuable model that his sister-in-law had once given to his mother-in-law, and it showed clear signs of wear, indicating it had been used for a long time.
Most importantly, she wore no jewelry at all, no necklace, no earrings, not even a bracelet or a watch.
He remembered his sister-in-law and the others saying that Deewa was a shameless, materialistic girl who constantly asked the men pursuing her for gifts, turning her nose up at anything cheap, she was especially pragmatic.
Logically, with her looks and such a reputation, dressing glamorously shouldn’t be difficult for her.
Meeting Chloe would definitely involve competing to outshine each other, so dressing so simply felt odd. At the very least, their relationship wasn’t that casual.
"Do you have a grudge against Anglo?"
Luis cautiously asked.
"Enemies, not just a grudge."
Deewa thoughtfully pondered for a moment, then asked, "Are you really going to deal with him?"
"I’m considering it."
Luis spoke hesitantly, after all, he was her own brother. Who knew what was really going on between them?
"Then drive me back to my hometown, and I’ll give you something."
Deewa said with a serious expression, "You’d better not lie to me, and don’t back down... otherwise, I’ll look down on you."
"I’d back down?"
Luis couldn’t stand the provocation. He snorted coldly and looked at her, saying, "If I were the type to back down, would you have let me fuck your asshole in front of David?"
"That’s true."
Deewa wasn’t embarrassed at all. Instead, she smiled charmingly and said, "Then you’d better deal with Anglo the same way. Ideally, you should find a few men to fuck his asshole too."
The promise was still tempting, but Luis felt something was off. At that moment, Deewa seemed to have a sinister, excited energy about her.
Deewa’s home was in a mountain village on the outskirts of the city. It wasn’t particularly remote, and the environment was quite pleasant. The yard was especially large, and the single-story houses were newly built, looking quite comfortable.
The car stopped outside the gate. Deewa opened the door and led the way, saying, "This is my maternal grandmother’s house. Right now, only my mother and my maternal grandmother live here. The old lady has probably gone to play cards at the village entrance."
From inside the eastern single-story house, a gentle voice called out, "Is Deewa back?"
"Yes..."
Inside the house was a traditional heated brick bed from Northeast China. It was said that many Northeastern refugees had settled in this area back in the day, and this custom persisted due to the damp mountain climate.
The room was clean and tidy. On the heated brick bed, a middle-aged woman was watching TV. When she turned and saw Deewa had brought a man back with her, she asked happily, "Deewa, is this your boyfriend?"
Deewa casually took off her coat and tossed it onto the heated brick bed, rolling her eyes as she said, "Mom, it’s not like I can’t get married, don’t worry about me. He’s a married man, so don’t talk nonsense."
"Hello, Auntie!"
Luis quickly greeted her.
She looked to be in her early forties, around the same age as his mother-in-law. Her features were delicate, and her face clearly resembled a mature version of Deewa’s.
But unlike her daughter’s vixen-like seductiveness, this mother appeared gentle, the kind of person who seemed particularly kind-hearted, a traditional, virtuous homemaker.
Fanga smiled warmly and said, "Hello, I’m Deewa’s mother. Please, have a seat. Let her pour you some tea."
She was sitting under the covers, seeming to have difficulty moving. Just as Luis was wondering about it, Deewa gave him a meaningful glance and said to her mother, "Mom, he’s just here to pick something up, then he’ll leave."
"Where’s Grandma? Did she go out to the fields again?"
"Yes, your grandma is in good health and can’t sit still. Will you stay at home tonight? Your grandpa will stew a chicken for you."
"Sure, I’m actually craving it."
Making casual conversation, Deewa had already taken a USB drive from the cabinet. She then shot Luis another look and led him out of the room.
She said directly, "There isn’t much on here, just some evidence of Anglo’s past involvement in illegal sports betting. As for what he’s doing now, it’s much more hidden. I haven’t found any useful leads to nab him yet."
Luis took the USB drive, thought for a moment, and asked, "What happened to your mother?"
"Anglo beat her. A cerebral hemorrhage put pressure on her nerves. Her vision is affected now, blurry, can’t see clearly. She needs ongoing check-ups and has to wait until she’s healthier before having more surgery to remove the blood clots."
Deewa gritted her teeth slightly and said, "And it’s not just her vision. After the fall, her back and neck have issues too, she feels numb and weak when walking..."
"What did the doctor say?"
"Only slow rehabilitation therapy. For safety, she’ll need several more surgeries to clear the blood clots, and then we’ll see how much she recovers."
Not wanting her mother to overhear, Deewa led Luis all the way to the well by the courtyard gate. Gazing thoughtfully at the well, she asked, "How do you plan to deal with Anglo? Are you confident you can get him sent to prison?"
"Somewhat confident. But he is your own brother, how could he beat your mother like that?"
Even though he knew he shouldn’t pry too much, curiosity got the better of him. Luis couldn’t help asking.
Deewa’s expression twisted faintly as she said, "It’s a cheap, sleazy story. My father was a gambler and a drunk. His first wife abandoned Anglo and ran off."
"Back then, my mother was only fifteen. He raped her, got her pregnant with me. That old bastard, my maternal grandfather, married her off to him for the sake of so-called family reputation."
"Luckily, that old man died young. And that so-called father of ours was later angered to death by Anglo."
Deewa seemed to have been holding this in for too long. Finally having someone to confide in, she briefly recounted her family’s sordid drama.
Anglo had been stealing and causing trouble since he was a kid, which eventually enraged his own father to death. To seize the little family property left, he naturally treated his stepmother and stepsister terribly.
Beatings were common, but the most infuriating part was when he got drunk once and tried to rape Fanga. It was during her resistance that he beat her so badly she ended up in the hospital fighting for her life, though he didn’t succeed in raping her.
Once Deewa started earning money, she had her maternal grandmother’s house rebuilt. After her mother was discharged from the hospital, they moved here, three generations of women relying on each other.
As for the meager family assets, Anglo had already squandered every last bit. And he’d always wanted his own sister to sell her body to fund his extravagant lifestyle.
