As evening fell, Luis slowly arrived at the bar with his wife. The backyard of the bar was already bustling with activity.

The barbecue restaurant on the third floor, which served late-night snacks, was free during dinner time, making it the natural venue for tonight’s banquet.

Father-in-law Arthur and Darlan shared a common trait: they were both traditional, rigid, and deeply concerned with face. With their son and son-in-law launching such a significant business, asking them to keep quiet and low-key would be worse than killing them.

Luis wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about it either, but with the two elders in such high spirits, he couldn’t bring himself to dampen their mood.

They hired a local cook, decorated the venue a bit, and as night descended, the banquet commenced in a lively fashion.

Mother-in-law Ruth was also very diligent. After all, her two sons-in-law were the bosses now, and not showing off the family business simply wasn’t her style.

Yana and her daughter, along with several close card partners, were invited, including her younger sister Eloise and her family.

At the main table where the men sat, Arthur and Darlan were overjoyed, raising their glasses and toasting everyone, running around more energetically than they had on their own wedding days.

Daniel and Luis also had a tough time, especially in managing the mood-spoiling presence of Uncle Logan. The difficulty of that task was unimaginable.

Before long, Luis’s face was flushed red from drinking. He felt somewhat better only after washing his face with ice water.

"Why are you drinking so hurriedly? You haven’t eaten anything. Drink this bowl of soup first."

The mother-in-law doted on her son-in-law, especially this second son-in-law. The affair was one thing, but what mattered most was this son-in-law’s filial piety.

Ruth grabbed Luis and pulled him over to the women’s table. Luis obediently drank the abalone and stone olive soup, glancing up briefly but not daring to utter a word.

Darlan asked with a laugh.

It was true he used to be idle and live off his parents, but now he was bursting with ambition. A quick mental calculation told him exactly how much these things were worth.

Arthur sighed, "What choice do I have? Whatever I can recover, I will. If I don’t accept this, once the project department shuts down, I won’t even know who to look for."

Daniel couldn’t bring himself to refuse. He said, "Dad, have someone bring the stuff over in the next few days. Just hand it over to Auntie."

After a satisfying meal where everyone ate and drank their fill, the old-fashioned ones, like Logan, left first.

Those who were interested stayed to tour the bar and have another drink. It wasn’t until past ten, when more customers started arriving, that the army of relatives finally withdrew.

Mother-in-law and his wife Lily also left first, mainly because the atmosphere here was too normal, which left his yearning wife quite disappointed.

In the bar’s backyard, father-in-law Arthur pressed his car key, and the lights of a black Mercedes-Benz C-Class flashed.

Sister-in-law Nancy said with a charming smile, "Not bad, Dad. You finally gave up on that old relic. This car looks quite nice."

"The car’s condition is good, but it’s ridiculously expensive."

Arthur gave a bitter smile.

He then explained the real purpose of his visit. The mineral water and soda were trivial matters.

In the end, Luis took over the Mercedes for 40,000 dollars. Of course, this had to be kept secret from mother-in-law Ruth. If she found out, Arthur would definitely face severe consequences.

The weekend passed quickly. His wife and mother-in-law returned to the capital to continue their studies. Once his sister-in-law and the others went back to school, it became exceptionally quiet.

Luis spent a day with his wife in the capital before slowly returning to the city to prepare for the next phase of their plan.

On Monday morning, Luis first went to his teacher’s wife Winslet’s office. The items here were almost all packed up.

Inside the office, Winslet massaged her own shoulders and said, "My body really feels worse with each passing year. Just this little bit of work leaves me sore and aching."

Luis walked straight behind her and placed both hands on her shoulders.
