Chapter 681 Father And Son Conflict
Chapter 681 Father And Son Conflict
Ruth stepped aside for a moment. The young couple wiped off the massage oil, got dressed, and went downstairs with her.
Normally, their card games ended at midnight, but today they finished a bit earlier because someone had to leave unexpectedly due to personal matters.
Originally, everyone would have just gone home, but now Yana had become unexpectedly generous.
In the past, she had lived rather frugally, but now that her household had a steady backbone, she was much better off financially. As soon as the game ended, she started calling out, insisting on treating everyone to a late-night snack.
As a newly minted landlady, Yana was a very responsible landlord. Even though that Northeast-style barbecue place was doing great business, she still made a point of going to show her support.
The tenants were so moved they could almost cry. Yana worried about them like a real mother hen.
At first, when they just opened, everything was chaotic, but now things ran smoothly and orderly.
Late-night snacks were a lively affair. A bunch of married women gathered around gossiping, while Luis and Lily sat obediently to the side, focusing on eating.
When the topic turned to the conflict with Old Peter, Lily's mother was in high spirits, feeling proud and vindicated.
She drank one glass of wine after another, thoroughly delighted. The way she looked at her son-in-law was full of deep satisfaction and smugness.
On the surface, her husband Arthur was the one standing in front, but the truth was, it was Luis who had come up with the idea. Without her son-in-law, the property management wouldn't have cooperated at all.
Poor Arthur had been used as a tool with no recognition whatsoever. Luis had stayed in the background handing out ideas, and that alone had made his mother-in-law's heart nearly melt with joy.
"Ah, I have to say, Yana is the lucky one!"
"Exactly. Her husband died so young… I'm so jealous I could die."
The conversation among these middle-aged women was absolutely wicked. In their eyes, Yana was the happiest of them all.
Her husband died early, so she didn't have to take care of him. What incredible luck. Now she lived a carefree life and was doing pretty well.
"Oh, come on, you guys. What's there to be jealous about?"
As Yana spoke, she secretly glanced at Luis. With her husband gone, having a suitable lover by her side was wonderful. Her only regret was little Lily, whom she had raised with her own hands.
But ever since she discovered that Lily had issues with her sexual orientation, that guilt and sense of wrongdoing had lightened considerably.
Occasionally letting Lily take advantage of her during breast massages or other times when she played dumb, in Yana's eyes, was a form of compensation that made her feel better.
Late into the night, after eating and drinking their fill, everyone went home. Yana had left with some other women, so there was no chance to make a move.
They got home honestly, but as soon as Luis opened the door, he noticed something was wrong.
The floor was vibrating with a buzzing sound, like construction work downstairs with a power drill, but a drill couldn't run that continuously and steadily.
"What's going on?"
Ruth asked, her eyes hazy with drunkenness and her voice filled with confusion.
Luis closed the door behind him, thought for a moment, and said, "It should be one of those 'building-shaking devices.' You've probably seen them online."
Few people had actually seen one, but many had heard of them. The news usually reported satisfying outcomes. No wonder it felt so powerful, like the whole building was shaking.
"Damn that old bastard."
Ruth couldn't help but curse. Lily furrowed her delicate brows and said, "How are we supposed to sleep like this? Mom, you should sleep upstairs tonight. Tomorrow we'll figure out how to deal with this."
"I'll come up after I shower!"
Ruth cursed her bad luck and went to take a bath.
The young couple also took a romantic shower together. Afterward, Lily wore only her panties and a little camisole, while Luis sat in front of the computer in just a pair of boxers.
Ruth came upstairs drying her hair, wearing a sexy silk nightgown. Now she didn't even bother with a bra. With every step she took, the sway of her cleavage had an utterly shocking impact.
Before Luis had moved in as a live-in son-in-law, the women in the house had worn even skimpier clothes than this. Now things were gradually getting back to that point.
Lily didn't mind at all. Even if her husband looked at her mother with lustful eyes, she wasn't jealous.
After all, at home, you wear whatever feels comfortable.
As a woman herself, she knew how uncomfortable it was to wear a bra in the summer. If your skin was sensitive, you could even get heat rashes. There was no need to be so restrained at home.
Since the women didn't mind being looked at, Lily didn't mind her husband looking. It wasn't like he was losing anything by enjoying the view.
"Minda's really efficient, isn't she?"
Ruth stood beside Luis, watching the surveillance clips he had pulled up.
The fact that Minda had gone from being a mistress to a firmly established concubine proved she was no mere trophy wife.
After all, Dominic had had so many affairs that he probably couldn't even remember how many women he'd slept with.
The events of the day were temporarily over, but Minda had taken the matter to heart.
She was clever and had people watching Old Peter's movements. Within the community, setting up surveillance was no challenge for her.
The first clip she sent showed the hallway downstairs and the elevator entrance, now equipped with a high-definition camera that could also record audio.
In the footage, Old Peter's apartment door stood wide open. The father and son were having a fierce argument.
Old Peter shouted, "Who told you to pay the property management fee? Why spend that kind of ill-gotten money? Have some self-respect. What have I always taught you?"
Pete, furious and frustrated, yelled back, "If I don't pay, we'll end up in court! How will Lanta's parents see me then?"
"You have a grudge with them, go fight with them yourself! Why drag her parents into it?"
"Just to save a little money, you had to start a fight right in front of them. You've completely disgraced us."
Old Peter was the type who never backed down, always aggressive even when wrong. He roared, "So what? I didn't do it on purpose."
"What kind of wealth do they have? How dare they look down on me? That dinner I treated them to cost over twenty dollars!"
"So what if I saved some card money? What's the problem?"
Father and son were locked in an explosive argument. Pete, absolutely livid, shouted, "We're about to get married! Are you doing this just to spite me?"
"Bullshit, it's no big deal. Quit making a mountain out of a molehill."
Pete, utterly furious, said, "Then what about my car? My boss needs the vehicle! I can make excuses for a day, but if I don't pick him up tomorrow, he'll get suspicious."
"If I lose my job, what do I do?"
"My boss has been so good to me. If he finds out the truth, I won't be able to show my face."
"Bullshit! So you've got a wife and forgotten your father, huh?"
Old Peter, always unreasonable, pointed a finger at Pete's nose and cursed, "If you lose your job, find another one. You're a grown man with hands and feet. Even if you beg on the streets, you won't starve."
"Stop with the nonsense, begging? How would Lanta and I get married like that?"
"Marry the rooster and follow the rooster. If she changes her mind over something like this, what good is a woman like that?"
Watching the father and son argue, the kind-hearted Lily sighed and said, "I kind of feel sorry for his son."
Luis said casually, "Yeah, the harm of a toxic family is huge. When parents are shitty, the children are the ones who suffer."
Even Ruth's heart softened a bit. She said, "Son-in-law, I don't think his son is that bad. If he were willing to admit his mistake, maybe we shouldn't be too harsh."
Pete's face turned green with rage as he cursed loudly, "Enough! If you can't help me, then don't make things worse for me!"
"It took so much effort for Lanta's family to finally accept me, and her father is willing to support our new family. Are you trying to destroy me?"
"If you're not filial, why are you even alive? You're going to turn against your own father for some worthless woman, aren't you?"
The father and son parted ways on terrible terms.
Luis agreed, then sneered, "What a fucking idiot. He's absolutely hated by gods and men alike!"
As he spoke, Luis called the property management office and told the security guard on duty to pull the main power switch at Old Peter's apartment.
