Marriage of the Di Daughter Chapter 143 Part 2: Winter Solstice
Just as he was panicking, Ye Ming Yu, who had changed his clothes, came out. Presumably, he was getting drunk when he was with his brothers, so although he had changed clothes, the tipsiness still remained. Fortunately, he was still sober. When he caught sight of Jiang Li, he said, “Ah Li, you are here! Come and sit inside?”
“Uncle still has guests, so I won’t stay for long.” Jiang Li also smiled. She’s a girl while this place was full of male heroes. Although she was indifferent, afraid these male heroes would feel ill at ease.
“I brought some things for you and will take a look at County Deputy Xue while at it.” Jiang Li smilingly said, “I’ll leave after seeing him.”
“Why…” Ye Ming Yu still wanted to urge but was interrupted by Ye Shijie. Ye Shijie said, “Okay, it’s indeed not convenient for you to be here today. Come back another day when there are no outsiders in the mansion.”
He bit the words “no outsiders” very heavily while glancing at Ye Ming Yu.
Ye Ming Yu touched his nose, knowing he was in the wrong, then laughed out and said, “Then quickly go and see County Deputy Xue? Miss Situ has been coming for several days to give acupuncture and the old man’s health has gotten much better. He can now eat a bowl of rice every day and he is in good spirits!”
He brought Jiang Li to Xue Huaiyuan’s courtyard as he spoke.
Xue Huaiyuan was currently concentrating on watching people playing shadow puppets, probably arranged by Ye Ming Yu for him to play. He looked very enthusiastic and laughed happily from time to time. Jiang Li saw this and couldn’t help feeling disappointed.
There was no sign of clarity.
Ye Shijie seemed to have found out what she was thinking and said, “Don’t be too anxious, Miss Situ said that Country Deputy Xue’s illness is not easy to treat and has to be done slowly. Besides, like what third uncle said, these days, County Deputy Xue’s health is getting much better. He was extremely weak when he just arrived in Yanjing, but now he is almost fully healthy.”
Only then Jiang Li started to calm down, shook her head and said, “I am too impatient.”
“Yes.” Ye Ming Yu scratched his head, “You treat old man Xue more seriously than your dad, of course you are more worried about him. Otherwise, wait after old man Xue is fully recovered, why don’t you recognize him as your adoptive father? You’ve spent so much effort on him, so he will not refuse. As for your father’s side, don’t worry, I’ll go and talk to him!” He continued hatefully, “I haven’t looked for him to settle Ji Shuran’s matter. The things that happened that year, all the people relied on Ji Shuran’s narration, where did they put our Ye family?”
Ye Ming Yu fumed with anger as this was mentioned again.
After what Ji Shuran did that year spread, of course Ye Ming Yu and Ye Shijie were the first to know. They naturally wanted to scold Jiang Yuan Bai big time. If Ji Shuran had not died, they still wanted to go to the Ji family’s door and ask for an explanation. In the end, it was still Jiang Li who came forward and pacified Ye Ming Yu.
However, after knowing that Jiang Li had suffered so much grievances, Ye Ming Yu did not like the Jiang family even more. So much so that he even thought of asking Jiang Li to separate from the Jiang family and return to the Ye family. Finally, Ye Shijie managed to stop him through reasoning.
“Adoptive father?” Jiang Li’s heart moved. She had never thought of this, but Ye Ming Yu had walked through the rivers and lakes and it’s a normal occurrence to pay respect to someone and recognize them as a godfather, so he was accustomed to it. The speaker was accidental but the listener had the thought; Ye Ming Yu was just speaking without thinking, but Jiang Li secretly noted this down. She was too meticulous towards Xue Huaiyuan, in the future, it would be hard for others not to gossip. However, if she mentioned that he was her adoptive father, then everything could be easily solved.
But before all that, unless Xue Huaiyuan could regain his sanity, no matter how guilty the Jiang family felt towards her, they would not let Jiang Li recognize a person who had lost his mind to be her adoptive father.
Considering this point, it opened up a new direction in the road ahead and Jiang Li’s mood relaxed a lot. Her smile became more sincere when she talked to the two of them.
Ye Shijie faintly sensed the change in Jiang Li’s attitude, yet he did not know the reason behind it. He only saw Jiang Li smiling like a flower, with a rare relaxed appearance with no scheming. He hesitated before swallowing the question that was at the tip of his tongue.
Up until she left the Ye mansion, Jiang Li’s mood was buoyant.
Bai Xue asked, “Miss, are we returning home now?”
“Go back.” Jiang Li looked at the sky. Actually, it was still early. Originally, she should have stayed in the Ye mansion a bit longer, but because Ye Ming Yu’s brothers were there, it was inconvenient for Jiang Li so she left early. The snow had not stopped at this time, and staying outside would be too cold. Since there was no other matter, it’s better to go back early.
Tong’er responded happily, thinking of going back to Fang Fei Garden and crowding cozily around the stove, it’s so much better than enduring the freezing cold outside. The few people were just about to board the carriage when an enthusiastic voice suddenly sounded from behind, “Miss Jiang second?”
Jiang Li turned around to take a look and unexpectedly saw Wen Ren Yao and Situ Jiuyue, the two people she had recently met. The person calling Jiang Li was Wen Ren Yao.
Once he saw Jiang Li, Wen Ren Yao approached and beamingly said, “Miss Jiang second, you just came from the Ye mansion?”
Jiang Li nodded and said to Situ Jiuyue, “Is Miss Situ going to the Ye Mansion to treat County Deputy Xue?”
“No.” Situ Jiuyue replied, “There’s no need for acupuncture for three days.”
Jiang Li smiled and said, “So I was mistaken. Where are the two of you going?” Meeting Situ Jiuyue at the Ye mansion’s gate, Jiang Li really thought that Situ Jiuyue was coming to treat Xue Huaiyuan, never expecting that she was not.
She was only asking along the flow of the conversation, not really wanting to know the answer. After all, Situ Jiuyue’s and Wen Ren Yao’s relationship with Ji Heng was not shallow. Jiang Li was not concerned with their affairs, and she must not care about it.
Who knew Wen Ren Yao immediately responded, “We are going to the duke’s mansion.”
Situ Jiuyue glanced coldly at Wen Ren Yao, probably thinking that his simple-minded approach really made it hard for people to be happy. Jiang Li was also astonished for a short time before she said promptly, “So it is, then I will not delay the two of you.” She stepped aside, thinking of letting Situ Jiuyue and Wen Ren Yao go first.
Maybe the Emperor spread the rumors?
