Chapter 6491: Stepping Stone

“I’ll show you,” Chu Feng replied with a smile.

He formed a hand seal.

A powerful surge of energy gushed out from the tree, but this was unlike any of the energies it had emitted before—it was the tree’s life force. Unsurprisingly, the tree swiftly withered.

The gus ravenously devoured the life force before breaking free of their cocoons and metamorphosing into seven-colored butterflies. Their bodies grew till they were over three meters tall.

There were so many of them around that they filled up the surroundings like an army.

“Woah! Junior Chu Feng, were you withholding a hand, too?” Wen Xue exclaimed in surprise.

These seven-colored butterflies definitely stood a chance against Jie Tianran’s gu, even when considering the earlier phenomenon.

“Not at all. These gus would only metamorphose after taking in the tree’s life force,” Chu Feng replied.

“What do we do next? Should we pick a fight with your grandfather?” Wen Xue was raring to go now that they had an army of butterflies.

Just then, the clouds covering the sky scattered.

A humongous tower that stood taller than the mountains could be seen in the sky. The tower was imbued with spirit power, which was why Chu Feng and the others to see it clearly despite having lost their cultivation in here.

There was a key fragment on top of the tower.

“It looks like we’re due for a fight.”

Chu Feng and Wen Xue climbed onto the back of a seven-colored butterfly each before leading the butterfly army toward the tower.

Meanwhile, Jie Tianran and the entity were also making their way toward the tower. Thanks to their proximity, they were the first to arrive at the tower.

A humongous gu that was over ten thousand meters in length stood outside the tower. It was still shaped like a bug, but its physique had grown more slender, making it resemble a dragon instead.

It had devoured the red monstrous beast to manifest red aura armor, which gave it a domineering appearance.

Jie Tianran and the entity rode on the gu’s head.

Jie Tianran’s complexion looked awful, and his body had become extremely faint. He must have paid a hefty price to strengthen the gu. His eyes were closed, and he was channeling his spirit power to heal up.

“Jie Tianran, there’s something off here. Did your grandson not give up?” the entity asked.

There was a barrier around the tower that prevented them from accessing it.

Jie Tianran opened his eyes and examined the barrier, but he couldn’t decipher it. That made him uneasy. His wealth of experience told him that the entity was right. Chances were that there was another competitor in this realm.

Jie Tianran and the entity suddenly looked in the same direction at the same time, where they saw a huge army of seven-colored butterflies rushing toward them.

“He’s a persistent one. Very well.” Jie Tianran channeled his gu to head toward Chu Feng.

Chu Feng was already prepared for that. He raised his finger and pointed it forth. The other butterflies, except for the ones he and Wen Xue were riding on, swiftly gathered together to form a butterfly spear to impale the gu.

Each butterfly was merely three meters long, but there were so many of them that the spear they formed was much larger than the gu.

Even so, the gu still wielded the advantage. It was evidently far superior in terms of speed and strength. In a direct confrontation, the butterfly army was no match for the gu.

But Chu Feng had anticipated that.

Just as both sides were about to clash, the butterfly army suddenly scattered before encircling the gu while keeping a safe distance away.

But the gu was simply too fast.

Whoosh!

The gu swung its tail, crushing an entire row of butterflies into dust.

Meanwhile, the remaining butterflies morphed into seven-colored lights and attacked the gu. It was an effective attack as not even the gu’s red aura armor could stop it. This onslaught greatly reduced the gu’s speed and strength while keeping it in place, leaving it with no chance to dish out a second attack.

“Get those two old things as well, junior! Teach them a lesson they’ll never forget!” Wen Xue excitedly urged Chu Feng to attack Jie Tianran and the entity as well.

“This attack only works on the gu,” Chu Feng replied.

“Jie Tianran, your gu isn’t as useful as it appears. It can’t even match the butterflies your grandson pulled out of nowhere,” the entity scoffed, though he didn’t panic. He continued observing the butterflies to find their weakness.

When his gaze happened to cross the tower, his eyes suddenly narrowed.

“Jie Tianran, we can’t drag things out any longer. Look.” The entity pointed to the tower.

Jie Tianran looked over.

An incense stick had appeared above the tower. Two characters swiftly revolved around the incense stick as if battling each other—’Nurture’ and ‘Plunder’. These two words harnessed spirit power.

Beneath the incense stick was a destruction formation.

As a world spiritist, Jie Tianran understood the significance of the incense stick. He had to defeat Chu Feng before the incense stick burned out, or else the destruction formation would be activated, and they would both fail the trial.

To his dismay, the incense stick was burning down extremely quickly.

“Help me!” Jie Tianran roared. His consciousness further weakened as he put everything into channeling the gu.

The entity formed a hand seal and released a green aura, which was noticeably stronger than before. He infused the green aura into the gu, making it stronger than ever.

Even so, the gu still remained suppressed by the butterflies’ seven-colored lights.

“Damn it.” Jie Tianran gritted his teeth as he glared at Chu Feng. He was already going all out; he had no hidden cards to pull anymore.

Just then, the gu suddenly emanated a brilliant light, and its massive body began to shrink. Eventually, it morphed into a ten-meter-wide cocoon.

A bizarre surge of energy rippled from the cocoon.

As soon as the butterflies were touched by the energy, they were reduced to seven-colored auras before being absorbed into the cocoon. In the blink of an eye, the only butterflies left in the vicinity were the ones Chu Feng and Wen Xue were riding on.

Just then, the cocoon was ripped open from within. A three-meter-tall humanoid monster emerged from within. It had three pairs of wings, and it was shrouded in a seven-colored light.

“Oh no.” Wen Xue’s face turned pale.

Even Chu Feng frowned.

Jie Tianran’s gu had metamorphosed into the humanoid monster, and it commanded an aura far stronger than the earlier gu and the butterfly army.

“Hahahaha!” The entity burst into laughter. “Chu Feng, you are indeed a filial grandson. If not for the butterflies you have gathered, Jie Tianran’s gu couldn’t have metamorphosed. You have achieved nothing other than being a stepping stone for him.”

Jie Tianran also looked at Chu Feng with a gleeful smile.

At the same time, the character ‘Plunder’ transformed into a wisp of smoke, fused with the incense stick, and the two disappeared. Following that, the barrier sealing the tower vanished.

The key fragment located at the top of the tower flew down.

But what happened next erased the smiles from Jie Tianran’s and the entity’s face. The key fragment flew not toward Jie Tianran but Chu Feng.

“It looks like I’m not the stepping stone.” Chu Feng’s frown slowly faded as he revealed a provocative smile.

“Chu Feng, I’ll murder you,” Jie Tianran spat as he ordered the gu to attack Chu Feng.

The gu turned around and grabbed Jie Tianran’s and the entity’s necks.

Wen Xue was dumbstruck.

Jie Tianran and the entity couldn’t believe their eyes.
