Martial King's Retired Life

Book 16: Chapter 6

Book 16: Chapter 6

It took an hour before Yu Feiyuan was dismissed due to Ming Feizhen overcomplicating what would have been an easy-to-comprehend justification, as well as making seven promises to her. She did not step outside because she understood his nonsensical excuses but because she was happy about the prospect of going out with him. He, of course, regretted not realising he could have dismissed her with the seven promises and had to wrack his brains for excuses to dismiss her from the meeting. Tang Ye, however, could not see how the seven promises were easy to fulfil.

“Now back on topic. This requires your thoughtful deliberation and contribution. Someone as insignificant as myself cannot handle such a daunting task.”

Mountain Monster raised her hand before Ming Feizhen could finish his speech.

Touched, Ming Feizhen conveyed, “Extensive preparation eventually pays off. I’m glad to know I didn’t treat to so many delicacies for nothing. Wawa, speak your mind. I have your back.”

“There’s something I don’t know yet. Who’s getting married?”

Ming Feizhen rolled his eyes. “What were you carrying on for if you didn’t know?!”

“What do you mean? Only an idiot lets a freebie slip past. Ask anyone here if they disagree. Ol’ Shen, would you?”

Shen Yiren was “resting” on Ming Feizhen whilst rushing a document that she needed to have delivered to the imperial palace. She had been awfully busy the last two days trying to do something about Shen Kuang joining the Qilin Guards to no avail. As a result, she was two days behind on work. She was set to leave the capital soon, so she had to rush her work duties to avoid letting her personal affairs impact her work. Had she not heard about Ming Feizhen’s over-the-top activities at Dongpo, she would not have left Liu Shan Men.

Without stopping herself from working, Shen Yiren, who was sitting on Ming Feizhen’s thigh, snapped, “Of course not. Oi, steady yourself, Chair!”

Ming Feizhen who had to stand in horse stance for Shen Yiren to sit on, responded, “Y-yes, Ma’am.”

Ming Feizhen was a veteran at standing in horse stance thanks to carrying Ming Suwen, as well as Ming Huayu’s stone table, stone chair, stone bench and stone chess set from childhood.

“Cut the crap. My shifu is the one who’s getting married.”

Mountain Monster felt even more perplexed. “Why are you trying to stop someone’s marriage?”

“Of course I can’t let them get married. Rather, I can’t let them get married like this, or I’ll be doomed.”

“Ming Feizhen, you’re a real jerk.” Mountain Monster got to her feet. “Why are you getting in your shifu’s way? Do you just not like feeling single? That’s no excuse to sabotage your shifu’s romance.”

“Exactly,” added Ling Jialan. “You can destroy anything but marriage, let alone your shifu’s marriage.”

Ning Zhuoru stroked her protruding belly and shook her head. “What is wrong with you? You might have years of your life taken from you.”

Tang Ni, having reached an agreement with Ming Feizhen, did not speak up, but she whispered to Li Zizi, “You should get a new shifu.”

Li Zizi did not know what to think.

Su Xiao and Tang Ye: “You can’t do that.”

Feng Qizhi, who sat at the forefront, crossed his arms and opined, “Brother Ming, you can’t do that even if you’ve fallen for your future shiniang!”

Li Chengzhi shook his head. “You scum.”

“Can you all let me finish before you started running your mouths?! Also, you’re leaving out a lot of context!”

Bai Lian voiced, “Then, explain it properly.”

Ming Feizhen needed their help, so what could he have done besides spill the beans?

After hearing how he sacrificed his shifu, Mount Monster asserted, “And you’re still in the wrong!”

And… the others jumped on the bandwagon right away.

Feng Qizhi crossed his arms again. “Hmm… So you didn’t fall for your new shiniang but your old shin-, ahhh!”

Ming Feizhen did not care that his roundhouse opened up Feng Qizhi’s wound again and sent him outside. Nobody unaware of Ming Feizhen’s true strength was surprised Ming Feizhen was able to send Feng Qizhi flying due to the latter’s injuries.

Ming Feizhen stepped on Li Chengzhi and grouched, “That’s the story. I need your help. If you’re willing to help, stay. If not, you can leave.”

Seeing Ming Feizhen mad, Mountain Monster responded, “You should’ve said so sooner! Team, let’s go!” and then led the group off.

“Hey, hey! I was just trying to have some flair! I wasn’t trying to scare you off! Aaaaaah! Just you wait, Wawa!”

Although the majority of them left, there were still some who stayed. There was the bright-eyed Su Xiao, who could not possibly have provided any wisdom. There was the musclebound Tang Ye with no romance insight. There was Tang Ni, who was glued to Li Zizi for some reason, Bai Lian, and Li Zizi. Lastly, there was Shen Yiren.

“So, I take you guys aren’t leaving?”

Li Chengzhi, who was still underfoot, raised his hand. “I want to. Can I?”

Ming Feizhen stomped down on Li Chengzhi again. “I will forever be grateful to all of you today. I will earnestly listen to all of your opinions. Let me start with Boss.”

As she continued writing as fast as lightning, Shen Yiren replied, “Had you asked me sooner, you probably wouldn’t have had to waste so much time with them and share your Mount Daluo secrets.”

“Rest easy, Boss. None of them will dare to mention a word.”

Shen Yiren dimpled. “I don’t really care. To answer your question, there are only three ways to cancel the marriage.”

“I am all ears.”

“Let Matriarch Zi beat the living daylights out of you. Let your shifu beat the living daylights out of you. Let them both beat the living daylights out of you. Hey, stop shaking! I’m serious.” Shen Yiren finally stopped writing and glared at Ming Feizhen. “What are you expecting? Even if you personally go and explain what happened, they won’t let you off the hook. What if they beat you up together, though?”

“Wouldn’t I suffer even more miserably?” Ming Feizhen’s face had turned pallor.

“No. The prerequisite for them to smash you together is to be together first.”

“… Wouldn’t I still suffer even more miserably?!”
