Martial King's Retired Life

Vol. 16 Chapter 71

Adrenaline Rush

“They didn’t fight?” the man in black garments robotically questioned.

Unlike the man with the dangerous gaze and indifferent voice, the reporter was muscular enough to see his muscles through layers of armour and enough to be imposing while genuflected. Even though his clan was well beyond their glory days, they still produced impressively-imposing descendants who had the competency to accompany their physiques.

“Wait,” instructed the man in black, cutting off the muscular man.

The muscular man learnt to listen reports and analyse them from the man in black. He only learnt how sophisticated the job was once he served the man in black. Before being told to, he passed the man in black paper and started writing. “

“Divine Realm adepts can hear across unimaginable distances and read heart beats in more detail than you imagine. How do know if Zi Wutong didn’t invite someone who’s reached Divine Realm? Don’t forget how many capable warriors fell to Wang Sanping.”

The mention of Wang Sanping’s name gave the muscular man a jolt. He did not survive the battle against Wang Sanping out of his own merit but thanks to his master having an apt strategy. Based on the losses they suffered to take down Wang Sanping, he was not sure if it was a wise idea. Forbidden Wind Lightning transcended Marquis Dubu’s version once Wang Muren inherited it, surpassing all expectations in the pugilistic world, and Wang Sanping was also able to utilise it. Having witnessed it himself, the muscular man wondered if he should have had spent some effort relocating his ancestors’ graves so that his clan’s descendants could benefit as Dark Robe Brotherhood did. As he was contemplating the pointless topic, his master had added another sheet.

“Your ancestors’ graves are fine. It would be in everyone’s best interests to leave them alone.”

The sudden remark made the muscular man shudder since he was sure he never voiced aloud his thoughts. He twisted his brush as he contemplated before finally deciding to report everything that transpired today as it happened.

One of his positive traits was his decisiveness. He was not a scholar by any means, but he could apply logic.

“There is something odd about Zhenchou.”

“In what way?”

“… His origins are shrouded in mystery. His mannerisms are odd. And, his relationship with Song Yanluo is questionable. He does not exhibit the traits of a servant.”

Though he did not look up, hearing his master’s chuckle was a sign that the latter was proud.

“Eliminate him. Seeing as he could sow discord between Li Shoulin and Lu Jianqiu, there’s a chance he’ll become a thorn in the side again. Controlling this variable is crucial.”

“Please reserve your greetings for Hero Shenzhou and Shifu.”

Needless to say, Night Fortress’ master’s visit needed to be a secret to everyone outside of the room. Jin Buhuan notified the servants and his aides that he needed to take a nap once he welcomed Ming Feizhen in before he started the real conversation.

“You speak in jest. It is an honour to meet you.”

Although Jin Buhuan was always respectful to Ming Feizhen, Ming Feizhen exercised respect as a junior because Jin Buhuan was in the same generation as his shifu.

Night Fortress gained the White Princes’ approval when they established themselves in Jiangnan, so Bai and Wang Clans knew its connection to Mount Daluo; however, Jin Buhuan was one of the very few people who knew Ming Feizhen was its leader.

Jin Buhuan invited Ming Feizhen to sit, poured them both a drink of tea, drank his first and then expressed, “A lot has changed since you left. I rarely heard any news related to you these years. Where were you building your wealth?”

“You make us sound so distant. There are plenty of people who catch wind of things in the pugilistic world fast, but I would need to scoff at anyone who claims to have a better information network than you.”

Jin Buhuan laughed heartily until he remembered that he was supposed to be sleeping. “It’s always a pleasure to chat with you. I heard you clashed with Abels in Jiangnan and sent the barbarians in Nanjiang running with their tails between their legs. To thank you for representing Jiangnan’s martial community so gloriously, I shall treat you to grilled lamb.”

Ming Feizhen almost blurted, “I’ll have at least three.” Thankfully, he did not. Instead, wearing a smile, he conveyed, “You are too generous. We can have lamb another day. I have some favours to ask of you.”

Jin Buhuan set his teacup down, shook his head and sighed. “I knew this day would come. The scum has caused you many headaches. I am ashamed to face you now that you are personally here to speak about him.”

Ming Feizhen shook his head. “His misdeeds are not your responsibility. I was aware of your circumstances at the time and have never held you accountable. Please rest easy.”

Elated, Jin Buhuan offered another cup of tea to express appreciation. After some superfluous conversation, Jin Buhuan carefully asked, “Have you happened to hear anything about him…?”

Ming Feizhen shook his head. “After he left that night, there has been no news. However, there have been rumours that he suffered a misfortune. I previously dispatched a team to investigate the rumours. We never found him, but we never found his body, either. I am not convinced he has just vanished.”

Considering Night Fortress’ network, Ming Feizhen would have dispatched a reliable team for the investigation. Given not even he was convinced that Jin Wangsun was dead, Jin Buhuan found hope again.

“If I ever find him, I will personally drag him up to Night Fortress to apologise.”

Ming Feizhen smiled. “An apology is not necessary.”

Hearing that, Jin Buhuan was certain Ming Feizhen did not visit him to discuss Jin Wangsun’s transgressions. “Is there something this old man can assist you with?”

“I do have a favour I would like to ask of you. As for whether you are successful or not is another matter.”

“Hahaha, if our combined efforts are insufficient, then fate must be against us. Please let this old man hear your quest.”

Ming Feizhen flip flopped between saying it or not before finally settling on asking, “Would you be able to help me set up a meeting with Lady Bai?”

Jin Buhuan flapped his eyelids. “Are you serious?”
