Chapter 3030. Paths moving Forward
Chapter 3030. Paths moving Forward
"I want to see Su." The words were like a brick dropped on Walker’s head.
He’d even paused slightly using his main body and surprising Alice who started to reprimand him while they helped a farmer learn to wrap a sprained ankle if it ever happened again.
Then again, Walker had thrown himself a bit further in to healing with Alice. He’d been learning a lot about preventative care and how to share that knowledge. While it might be something slower to properly learn and perfectly understand due to all the races and traits within the world, it had extreme value.
A hero should know how to heal what was broken, or repair what had been damaged. Even if it could and would be damaged again.
Regardless, Walker’s golem body that had just finished meeting several new hatchlings that would be leaving the nest with dragonkin guards to attend their first lessons at a basic school had shocked him.
"Why do you want to visit Su? Do you miss her already?" Walker had been worried the moment he heard her say that.
Yes, they had gone further in to the outer elemental planes, but mostly because Su was on her own chosen journey to face herself and what she would become. She had even made progress in to who and what she protected and why. She has solidified her goals and herself as someone who protected but also began looking at herself as a different person entirely than who she had been once upon a time.
It was a step that Su was taking by herself and needed to be by herself in ways that Midnight and Walker might not fully grasp. Walker was there, but he was just the golem body pushing the path open so that she could take the trial she chose to take. He was support, but more in the form of a tool if anyone were to break it down in to the most naked of terms.
"We are partners." Midnight responded with a sad voice. Something that told Walker she also missed Su as her friend and sister. She missed her being there but she also recognized that their bond was stronger too.
Su became the draconic guardian bonded with her because she could protect her from danger. But Midnight had grown quickly and she could stand tall as a true dragon champion growing on her own path differently than any other dragon would or could grow.
Therefore, Midnight did not necessarily need a guardian, leaving the change in their bond something that had been tough on the two.
But, the point was that they were able to grow and reinforce the family bond they grew together while also still sharing the blood and spiritual bond between them. It was why they got along so well and why they worked together so well.
"She is working hard on who she is and growing stronger in her class. She might not be in the same class when she gets back and she might be stronger." Walker said this waiting to see if Midnight would change her mind. He was testing the waters to see if she was being selfish and wished to see Su or if she had a goal in mind that she wanted to reach.
"No, she is Su and I will go see her. She needs me too." Midnight flared her nostrils and Walker swore he saw her start to change from her dragonkin form in to her dragon form before his eyes.
"If that is what you need to do, then we can. But when we catch up to her, if she asks you to leave you will need to leave. I do think she will be surprised and glad that you came to check on her though." Walker decided he would not tell Su this was happening.
Whether it was just because he knew that Su would find it a good thing that Midnight visited to check on her or not, he was sure that it would have some effect on her. He also understood that Midnight pursuing this might actually have another meaning.
She had not been alone as much as everyone else. Onyx had embraced his own race and led it so much that he had separated himself a lot. Only reaching out for help when needed and joining the party as needed.
In turn, Midnight had always been beside someone. Whether it was Walker, Su, or Alice, she was always side by side.
If this was her chance to move forward and make sure she kept the bonds she valued clear and strong, then it was most likely something that had to be done for her to grow as well.
Further away in an office, Gil looked up somewhat surprised. "You are taking Midnight to meet Su in the outer elemental planes? I thought that Su would want to be alone?" Gil was just as curious and a bit worried. But this change in subject brought him a good break from the paperwork Walker was also helping with.
Neither had realized how much paperwork had to be done associated with the elves building and rebuilding some extinct species of herbs and plants overall. Every single elf that joined Genesis seemed to have found or was talking about herbs and plants lost to the world that recently returned. No matter the affinity, they had such a deep record of them that it seemed comical when some of their skills were lost when the high elf bloodline receded.
"I think she misses her but also can sense that Su is moving differently through their bond. It might be a good thing for Midnight to see Su becoming someone better and stand alone. Not because I think Midnight doesn’t understand Su is her own person. More like Midnight sees her as equal and standing side by side and needs to know that everyone grows differently internally too."
This was something that Walker wished Midnight fully understood, but she was younger. Less life experience than others. Not by much since the party also grew quicker because of their strength and unique leveling. They weren’t the status quo for sure now.
"I think that’s about right Walker. Midnight grows but she is still guiding hatchlings and learning a lot herself. Su is her biggest role model, even you aren’t really since she has a deep bond like older sister and younger sister with Su. So she’ll see it and I think she will surprise the worrying older brother.
Hearing it from Gil made Walker want to refute right away and maybe even hit Gil the same way Remey did. He knew Gil was right though, it was just plain and simple.
"I gained some insight in my own class last night too. While I slept I realized I was still sensing the growth of the high elf blood in my body and its connection to the various paths of the elf race." Now Walker froze again, listening closely.
"I think it was because Alma was resting beside me and our child was also close. I have been falling asleep thinking about the future and the path of those I have taken on to myself and my own path too."
Listening carefully, Walker let Gil speak. He’d known Gil’s own turmoil and it’s why he promised a golem body would be there no matter what. Gil was the same as a brother to him. He cared and would damn well show it as Gil built a family all his own.
"Using mana to make arrows was part of their origin. I think I saw part of what high elves were before they were intelligent."
They’d heard about the elves’ past but it was the intelligent high elf side somewhat forgotten. Never before that.
"I believe that the elves as ancient beings were similar to what we know about human tribes. Learning to use tools and develop that way. But elves added naturally occurring magic to their tools and mixed it. They founded their intelligence in that and that’s why we see the magic swordsmen, arcane archers, shielder druids, and other classes from today’s elves now that the world is on track."
Gil didn’t make light of seeing these glimpses of classes and an ancient past of the high elves. He was the first to unlock that blood and as a human nonetheless. He’d received a drop of blood left as an origin by the first high elf in a way that could not be done today because of lacking knowledge.
He had a special connection with the elves that others did not have and it was showing through him.
"I want to explore that potential. Understanding how elves did that at their start might be what explains why elves are an intelligent race now. How they can grow as they reunite fully as a race and become one again."
Walker nodded in agreement. He felt Gil had seen something and captured the right path to pursue right now.
