Chapter 3048. Learning Chances
Chapter 3048: 3048. Learning Chances
"Are we heading back then?"
"Well, we did explore, but we have not made as much progress as I expected. This is a big deal though, Walker, you were waiting for this right?" Gil knew exactly how much Walker was excited right now.
Remey clicked her tongue. She had asked if they were leaving and heading back and neither Walker nor Gil really responded to her. But her noise of annoyance was enough to keep them focused for a bit.
"We can look a little more, we don’t need to rush back. Everyone can celebrate themselves while we take our time. There aren’t any issues right now."
It was unexpected from Walker, but he also knew his golem bodies were there. He had just returned one of them to Alice who was in the middle of her own events too. So, he could just wait until the party finished what they were looking in to.
"So we can check out that body there." Onyx curled a little again in his coil. He had been watching like the rest of them.
They hadn’t expected that they would find a body. Not one that seemed to be slowly breaking down either.
They had expected some strange elemental plane twisted and broken or maybe clashing with another or other chaotic manas. Instead, they found a body broken and degrading back in to manas.
’Elemental Titan spirit body
This is an elemental spirit that gained immense mana and was able to shape its body the same ways that an elemental would. This degraded its intelligence but also caused its body to solidify many times over. It also trapped other manas within its earthen body allowing it to store them and not harm them.
Due to the strangeness of its existence, it attracted many that wished to fight it, however, the density and toughness of its body stopped them from absorbing and easily consuming the mana leaving them to move toward other prey.
Other monsters are still attracted to the body but often leave since the available mana is not great enough until the body breaks down even more. There is also the danger associated with trapped materials, potent manas, and other parasitic monsters escaping the dense earth mana.
While alive, beings like this are a force that can not be fought often.
The strange mix of crocodile shape and elephant shape made the elemental seem as if it had been an even greater force when it was alive. Yet, the fact that its body looked more like cheese full of holes was not missed.
It was clearly weakened by the day and the body would surely dissolve. Whatever intelligence and instinct that had once been there were far gone. Who knew how many hundreds of years it had degraded.
It was certain that there was a time when this was a powerful monster exploring and venturing through the unknown trapping elemental planes that would normally be harmful with dense enough earth mana to do so. Now though, it was a resource that the party could harvest from and retreat while they still had the luck or the strength to do so.
The danger did not sit on their shoulders idly.
They all grasped the fact that even powerful monsters did not wait here to feed because they knew that the mana breaking down that they could consume was also a ticking time bomb.
That any moment, manas that this elemental monster had captured could be released in a violent and extremely dangerous way.
"If I sense fire mana we will run because I am not sticking my face in to an exploding fire elemental plane’s worth of mana." That was the key focus, Remey had said it right there.
A full elemental plane’s worth of mana exploding outward would not be something that Walker could gauge fast enough to seal or halt. Su couldn’t defend that all at once with her shields even if she used every single one stacked on top of one another.
It was just a fact.
They were not strong enough to do such a thing right now and they had to come to terms with that whether they liked it or not.
"There are good things too." Midnight broke their thoughts quickly. She didn’t let them dwell on the negatives while they could take a chance at the benefits here.
Her gut feeling was telling her that the risk was worth it. Maybe that was also why Walker had held back from rushing to the magic tower to meet the stone goblin who had managed to become the master of the tower.
Maybe they all had held back because they too had the same gut feeling.
They had trusted those feelings before and been rewarded. So it was worth trusting those instincts that could see something even they could not logically explain or understand just yet.
Gil suddenly drew his bow and shot an arrow.
Everyone looked at him with confusion before they realized he had just drawn in the earth mana nearby to make that arrow and was in a stance he had been practicing.
Walker accepted Gil’s chatter about Gil’s goals and the forms of archery. The others felt that it was starting to wear them down a bit.
But right then, Gil had shot an arrow that felt and looked different.
"Oh... that’s how it works... good thing I realized it."
"Did you just learn to finish the earth elf side of the style you are working on? Did you do that because the body has so much mana? Can you do it again?" Midnight leaped around realizing that Gil had a sudden understanding and she wanted to know it too. She was excited because she knew Gil would be excited. She didn’t care if he was annoying before, the change was exciting.
"Yes... I did. I felt it and just went with it. I think this body is lucky for me. But I think there is more to learn here. I don’t need to go closer. Walker, can you leave me here to think?"
"Brother, I will protect him." Onyx curled around Gol and took a protective stance with his larger body. Onyx could sense dark mana and light mana. He had a good gut feeling and he also grasped that if he stayed and watched he could gather what understanding he needed to enhance how he felt about the density of manas and the forming of a density that could literally trap other manas regardless of affinity clashing.
"Understood." Walker buffed them both before the others and him moved forward. He looked back and could tell that Onyx didn’t need to move closer. That Gil was already using the opportunity to tweak his perception of the bow style.
Gil was condensing his knowledge. Firming up his beliefs and us weaning because he had left it too open and fluid.
Just because the ancient and high elf style was supposed to be a foundational ideal that had some adaptability did not mean it couldn’t be rigid. The rules of survival allowed some solidity in belief and repetition. Survival could come from repeating the same actions over and over.
"There’s definitely some dangerous fire in that thing. If that’s what’s left of a leg, I would say it has bones made of fire tougher than mine." Remey was not one to admit something was stronger or tougher than her.
But she was.
"That might be a trapped fire elemental plane in chaos. So we avoid it." Trusting her, Walker tried to look too with his mana senses and felt the same. A violent fire mana trying to escape but still trapped. Remey had sensed it because of her keen relationship with fire as a whole. He’d been a step behind.
"It had scales and plates on its body, just like shields. If we take a piece I want to have a shield and armor made from it. But I want to touch it to feel its toughness." Su was also taking in some information. The closer she got the more she understood the immense defensive prowess even after years of degrading.
"They are very condensed earth mana. It’s not even simple crystal." Walker looked at it carefully too while Remey flexed her knuckles wondering if she could punch it and even leave a scratch.
All four of them were wondering about the powerful creatures out here. The unknown entities that wielded massively potent defenses. Let alone something out there entirely suited just to attack in one specific way or to just eat one specific thing.
This was a place of chaotic extremes and seeing the extremes offered an opportunity to test them. To build their own strengths and weaknesses to become greater strengths or become nothing that could even be considered a weakness.
"We should examine it closely but I will pull everyone away if we sense too much danger." Walker was firm and and would not budge on this.
