Chapter 1340: Death Rejection

Chapter 1340: Death Rejection

The Lover Of Death stood stunned. He had expected and guessed a lot of answers, but he could never have guessed that Anthony could say that he was richer, hence wasn’t exactly moved by the treasures.

As silence passed between them, the silence shattered as The Lover Of Death burst into laughter.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" His laughter echoed through the vault.

His hand rose as he wiped a tear from the corner of his eyes before he spoke, "forgive me for my sudden laughter, I just didn’t expect such an answer." He gave one last chuckle as he spoke.

Anthony didn’t exactly react; he simply watched and said nothing. He had simply said the truth and nothing more. How the man before him chose to react had nothing to do with him.

"I’ve been watching you for a while," The Lover Of Death continued, "and I have to say, you are indeed too special. To be able to defeat an Eternal Apex while being at the Star Monarch rank is not something that even I could pull off." He added as his pink, staring eyes returned to Anthony.

Anthony simply shrugged as he spoke, "I’m no you, so that’s that." His tone was low and calm, devoid of arrogance or hubris.

The Lover Of Death smirked as he spoke, "want to do a few rounds? I’m stronger than the Nature’s Savant, and I can defeat that guy with a single attack," he stated as his entire demeanor gave off pure confidence.

He had indeed seen Anthony’s fight from the beginning until this point, yet he still wanted to fight even with all that information, as though he believed he would still win regardless of any circumstances or trump cards Anthony pulled.

Anthony’s sky-blue eyes met The Lover Of Death’s pink ones. The next moment, two battle intents clashed with staggering force, the entire vault shaking as black battle intent from The Lover Of Death met Anthony’s red one, sparks dancing through the air as space began to crack and degrade.

It was as though two madmen had met for the first time after hearing about each other. After a few seconds, Anthony sighed and erased his own battle intent as he spoke.

"I have no time to waste on someone who isn’t here, and a ghost at that," he stated as he shook his head.

Indeed, the man standing before him was something akin to a ghost, but not really. The current Lover Of Death was simply a memory of when he was alive, yet even a memory of himself had taken form and possessed even battle intent. The Lover Of Death was simply that absurd and broken when he was alive.

Anthony stared at the man for a moment, then turned around and walked away, his destination being the portal. If The Lover Of Death was just here to talk, then he had nothing else to say.

Seeing Anthony suddenly leave, The Lover Of Death was stunned. He could tell that Anthony had lost interest in him the moment the Human understood that he wasn’t exactly here and was practically non-existent.

The Lover Of Death smiled and decided to tempt Anthony.

"Aren’t you curious about the final reward?" He asked, his eyes still fixed on Anthony.

Hearing such words, Anthony’s footsteps came to a halt. He turned around, his sky-blue eyes falling on The Lover Of Death as he stared at him, simply curious.

The Lover Of Death, seeing that he had gotten Anthony’s attention, continued.

"With how smart you are, I’m sure you can think and figure out something as simple as this." His tone was low and playful. "But if the treasures here were the greatest and all the treasures I possessed when I was alive, then I wouldn’t leave my memory behind, no?" He asked with his usual smirk.

Anthony’s thoughts spun as he understood the truth behind the man’s words. A smile couldn’t help but appear on his lips as the earlier disappointment he felt vanished completely. To him, this was The Lover Of Death’s ultimate move to take over his body and return to life.

After all, although he might not have his soul, the man could still live on with his memories without worries.

"What is this reward?" Anthony asked as he started walking back to The Lover Of Death.

The Lover Of Death stayed silent for a moment, then answered, "Death Rejection."

Anthony arched an eyebrow as he wondered what that meant, but before he could speak or ask about it, The Lover Of Death simply explained.

"Death Rejection is simply as the name states." His tone was calm as he leaned off the wall, his hands leaving his chest as he clasped them behind his back. "You basically become unkillable, an immortal in the truest sense, as even Death itself rejects your very existence." He explained as he walked away. He paused, then turned around, facing Anthony as he asked in finality, "want it?"

Anthony remained expressionless. To him, this reward was just another dumb and stupid one. While others might jump at the reward, definitely not him.

First off, if such a reward was truly so overpowered and was immortality in the truest sense, why was The Lover Of Death himself dead? And secondly, people always assume that Death was the worst that could happen, but it wasn’t.

One could be sealed, one could be tortured forever, one could suffer various injuries, poisons, and whatnot but couldn’t heal or recover from such conditions, but couldn’t die either, hence practically enduring such things for eons.

"I’m interested," he replied, and indeed he was.

Not in Death Rejection itself, but in what The Lover Of Death was going to do. Maybe his memories being here was another form of life preservation through Death Rejection. But there was no way Anthony could know, only guess.

The Lover Of Death smirked as he had expected the answer. No matter how powerful anyone was or how unafraid of death they were, it didn’t mean they would simply lay down on the ground and just die.

"Sit on the ground," The Lover Of Death spoke. "I will channel the ability into you... well, it’s not an ability per se, but a curse," he stated calmly.

Anthony simply nodded as he sat, shifting into a lotus position. The Lover Of Death stepped forward and touched his head. The moment he did, Anthony felt an insane force from the Law Of Death slam into his body as though rewriting him from within.

Anthony’s Beginning Of All Things Physique immediately fought back, but before it could, Anthony suppressed it as he wanted to see where this was going. The Law Of Death in its purest form coursed through his soul, but Anthony, Unbound, and Romulus didn’t even react to it.

The next moment, Anthony felt as though something had been taken from him. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but he knew he had lost something. It didn’t take him long to understand that he had gotten the Death Rejection ability.

[Ding]

[The Host has been cursed]

[Under the acknowledgement of the Host, the Curse shall be allowed to remain]

Seeing the system’s notification, Anthony nodded internally as he had informed the system not to override it. He couldn’t help but reminisce a bit about his life back at the Blue Planet and how he had been cursed before he even awakened. He shook his head and decided to stop reminiscing; those were the good old days after all.
