Chapter 1142: Kasumi’s Agony
Chapter 1142: Kasumi’s Agony
Just then, Amanda walked in, handing Fumiko a report. Fumiko opened it, her eyes scanning the page before she looked up at me, her expression carefully neutral.
"Mr. Jack... take a look at this..." She handed me the report.
I saw it was my own medical file—Blood Group: A+.
Fumiko continued, her voice careful, testing. "Mr. Jack... would you like to donate your blood? I found your blood group also matches Ms. Kasumi’s..." She paused, her voice softening, as if gauging my reaction.
"I just wanted to create a medical profile for Ms. Suzuki’s family by asking Amanda to take your blood sample earlier... I didn’t expect it to match..."
I nodded, my voice breaking with raw emotion. "My blood sample and Oka-san’s are a match... then... then, Doctor..." I swallowed hard, my eyes filling with tears as I looked at her intently. "Can... can I donate my heart to Oka-san...?"
But I noticed Fumiko’s fingers twitch—she quickly muted the phone call, not letting Kasumi hear. Even though I knew Kasumi was watching us from behind the observation window, the ICU room was soundproof.
I sensed Kasumi’s thoughts, her mind racing with confusion and fear.
[What happened? I don’t hear anything... Why is Fumiko standing in front of Jack? Have they finished talking? What did he say...?]
Fumiko’s thoughts also echoed in my mind, panicked and shocked.
[OMG... Jack... what kind of man are you...? Thank God I muted the call in time... Otherwise, if Kasumi heard this, everything would be ruined...]
[Does he really love her? He’s willing to give his heart without even thinking...]
Fumiko adjusted her expression, her voice steady but firm. "Mr. Jack, you should know that this is impossible... and it is also illegal... for a living person to donate their heart..."
She paused, her gaze softening, but her voice remained resolute. "Mr. Jack... I think you should focus on finding a heart..."
I let the tears fall freely, wiping them away with the back of my hand as I nodded. "I will... I won’t let anything happen to her..." My voice was thick with emotion, my acting so convincing that even I almost believed it.
Fumiko nodded, then turned to walk back inside the ICU.
I nodded again, pretending to pull out my phone and making a call, my voice urgent as I barked orders into the receiver, demanding a heart be found within the hour.
As Fumiko re-entered the ICU, I sensed everything through my telepathy and telekinesis.
Kasumi asked urgently, her voice trembling, "Fumiko... what happened? I didn’t hear anything on the phone..."
Fumiko made an excuse, her voice smooth. "The signal must be weak inside the ICU..."
Kasumi asked again, her tears welling up as she watched me through the window, my shoulders shaking with feigned despair. "Why is he crying? What did he tell you...?"
Fumiko sighed, her voice heavy with false resignation. "He is trying to find a heart for you..."
But doubt crept into Fumiko’s mind, her thoughts conflicted and guilty.
[No... I can’t let Jack and Kasumi see each other... Otherwise, what if Jack talks to her? Then everything will be over... This is making me feel like an evil person... Maybe I should just... let them be together...]
[Hurting Jack like this... and Kasumi... Am I doing the right thing as a psychologist? Why do I feel like a villain, destroying people’s happiness?]
[ And seeing Jack... the way he’s protecting Kasumi... whether he loves her as a woman or thinks of her as a mother... it’s real... His eyes never lie...]
Kasumi couldn’t take it anymore.
She turned away from the window, her hands clutching her kimono as she paced the ICU, her breath coming in short, panicked gasps. "Fumiko..." she whispered urgently, her voice breaking. "Fumiko, please... I can’t... I can’t do this..."
Fumiko looked up, her eyes wide as she saw Kasumi’s distress. "Kasumi...?"
Kasumi shook her head, her tears streaming down her face. "He’s... he’s in pain..." Her voice was a sob. "I can’t... I can’t let him think I’m... I’m dying..." She clutched her chest, as if the thought was physically hurting her. "I can’t let him believe... that I’m leaving him..."
Fumiko sighed, her heart softening as she saw Kasumi’s agony. "Kasumi..." she whispered, her voice gentle. "This is the only way to know for sure..."
Kasumi shook her head violently, her voice rising. "No... No, it’s not..." She turned back to the window, her eyes locking onto me as I sat there, broken.
"Look at him, Fumiko..." Her voice was a plea. "He’s destroyed... He thinks he’s losing me..." She paused, her breath hitching. "And I... I can’t... I can’t let him believe that..."
She pressed her forehead against the glass, her voice a whisper. "I love him, Fumiko..." Her confession was raw, her heart laid bare. "I love him... and I can’t... I can’t let him think... that I don’t love him back..."
Fumiko was silent, her mind racing. [She’s... she’s in love with him... Truly, deeply...]
Kasumi turned away from the window, her voice trembling but firm. "Fumiko... I’m ending this..." She wiped her tears, her chin lifting with determination. "I’m going to him... I’m going to tell him..."
Fumiko reached out, her voice urgent, her fingers brushing against Kasumi’s sleeve. "Kasumi, wait—!"
But Kasumi was already moving, her kimono rustling softly as she stepped out of the ICU, her eyes locked on my back.
She didn’t yell, didn’t call out. Instead, her voice was choked, broken, as if the words were too heavy to speak aloud.
"J-Jack..." Her whisper was barely audible, her tears streaming down her cheeks as she watched me walking away, my shoulders still shaking with silent sobs.
I could feel her presence behind me, her emotions crashing like a storm—guilt, love, desperation. She wanted to call out, wanted to run to me, wanted to wrap her arms around me and never let go. But something held her back—fear, shame, the weight of her own feelings.
Fumiko followed Kasumi, her expression conflicted, her mind racing. [She’s going to him... She can’t bear to see him in pain...] But she didn’t stop her. She knew—this was bigger than her test, bigger than her fears as a friend.
Kasumi took a step forward, her hand trembling as she reached out toward me, as if she wanted to touch my shoulder, to pull me into her arms. Her breath hitched, her voice a whisper. "Jack..." The word was a prayer, a plea, a confession all in one.
