Chapter 708: A Boss’s Confession

Chapter 708: A Boss’s Confession

Natalya and Polina rushed me to the car, their urgency matching the pounding in my chest.

The sterile white lights of the hospital corridor blurred past as Natalya and Polina rushed me to the operating room, their faces etched with worry. The doctors and nurses moved swiftly, preparing me for surgery to remove the bullet lodged in my back.

Natalya’s grip on my hand was tight, her knuckles white, her eyes red and swollen from crying. She looked utterly broken, her usual fierce demeanor shattered by fear and guilt.

Once inside the operating theater, I used Absolute Hypnosis to freeze the doctors and nurses in place. With a deep breath, I activated my Healing Factor. The bullet pushed its way out of my flesh effortlessly, the wound knitting itself closed in seconds. I instructed the doctor to wrap bandages around my chest and back, covering the spots where the injuries had been.

Ten minutes later, I was wheeled out of the operating room and into a private ward. Natalya, Polina, and the four female bodyguards were waiting outside.

Natalya’s eyes were red-rimmed, and her face was pale, her expression a heartbreaking mix of fear and relief. She looked so pitiful, so vulnerable, that it made my chest ache.

If she knew the truth—that I had been deceiving her this whole time—she would kill me herself.

Natalya rushed to my bedside the moment the nurses wheeled me into the ward. She grabbed the railings of the bed, her voice trembling. "Viper... are you okay?"

I nodded, trying to give her a reassuring smile. "Boss... I am totally fine."

The nurses left the room, leaving Natalya and me alone. She stood there, her hands gripping the bed railings so tightly that her fingers turned white. Tears welled up in her eyes again, and she took a shaky breath.

"You scared me," she whispered, her voice breaking. "When I saw you get shot... when I saw the blood... I thought..." She couldn’t finish the sentence, her voice choked with emotion.

I reached out, gently taking her hand in mine. "I’m here, Boss. I’m okay."

She shook her head, a tear rolling down her cheek. "Don’t call me that," she said softly.

I squeezed her hand, my heart aching at the sight of her tears. "Natalya..."

She looked at me, her eyes filled with a raw vulnerability I had never seen before. "I can’t lose you, Viper," she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don’t know what I would do if I lost you. You mean more to me than anything else in this world."

Her words hit me like a punch to the gut. The guilt of deceiving her gnawed at me, but seeing her like this, so broken and afraid, I couldn’t bring myself to tell her the truth. Not now. Maybe not ever.

She moved closer, sitting on the edge of the bed and leaning her forehead against mine. "Promise me you won’t do something so reckless again," she pleaded, her breath warm against my skin.

I closed my eyes, feeling the weight of her fear and love. "I promise," I whispered.

She pulled back slightly, her eyes searching mine. "I love you, Viper," she said, her voice trembling but filled with sincerity. "I think I’ve loved you since the moment you saved my life. I just didn’t want to admit it, not even to myself."

My heart swelled, the guilt and love warring within me. "I love you too, Natalya," I said softly, meaning every word despite the secrets between us.

She leaned in, pressing her lips to mine in a kiss that was desperate and full of fear, relief, and love. When she pulled away, her forehead rested against mine again, her breath unsteady.

"I almost lost you today," she whispered. "I can’t go through that again."

I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her close. "You won’t," I promised, even though I knew the dangers of our world would always be lurking. "I’m not going anywhere."

She stayed there, her body trembling slightly as she clung to me. The weight of her emotions was palpable, her fear and love intertwined in a way that made my chest tighten.

Eventually, she pulled back, wiping her tears away with the back of her hand. "You need to rest," she said, her voice regaining some of its usual strength, though it was still laced with emotion.

I nodded, watching as she stood up and moved to the chair beside my bed. She sat down, her eyes never leaving mine. "I’m not leaving your side," she declared, her voice firm. "Not tonight. Not ever again if I can help it."

I reached out, taking her hand in mine once more. "I wouldn’t want you to," I said softly.

The dim glow of the hospital room wrapped around us like a cocoon, isolating us from the rest of the world. Natalya’s small, watery smile was still fresh in my mind as she brushed her thumb over my knuckles, her touch sending a warm shiver through me.

"Get some rest, Viper," she murmured, her voice soft and filled with a tenderness that made my heart clench. "I’ll be right here."

I looked at her, my voice gentle but insistent. "Natalya... why don’t you also come and sleep here?"

She raised an eyebrow, a teasing glint in her eyes despite the exhaustion. "Do you want to take advantage of your boss?"

I pretended to be at a loss, feigning innocence. Natalya chuckled softly, shaking her head. "Don’t think about it... You’re injured. You can do that once you are completely healed."

I looked at her earnestly. "I just want to hug the boss..."

Natalya blushed slightly, her tough exterior softening. "Ok..." she conceded, her voice barely above a whisper.

She shifted me slightly on the bed, making room for herself before climbing onto it. The bed wasn’t big, and our bodies pressed together, her warmth seeping into me. I could smell her sweet scent, a mix of jasmine and something uniquely her, and it made my heart race.

Natalya was facing me, and I faced her, my arm outstretched so her head could rest on me. I pulled her close, hugging her tightly. Her body molded against mine, her breath warm against my chest. She let out a soft, contented moan, "Hmmm..."

I kissed her forehead gently, my voice filled with sincerity and love. "I love you, boss..."
