Chapter 812: Torturing Officer Diaz
Chapter 812: Torturing Officer Diaz
Before Sarah could protest, I moved.
My sword flashed—
Not at his neck.
Not at his head.
But diagonally, slicing through his arms just above the elbows, then swinging low to sever his legs at the knees.
Diaz screamed—a high-pitched, animalistic howl of agony—as his limbs hit the ground with a wet thud. His body collapsed, blood spraying from his stumps, his face twisting in sheer, unimaginable pain.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
He thrashed, his stumps gushing blood, his screams echoing off the warehouse walls before he passed out from the shock.
Sarah flinched, her hand flying to her mouth, her eyes wide with horror. "Jack... don’t!"
I turned to her, my voice cold but calm. "He’ll live." My eyes were unapologetic. "But he’ll never walk again. Never hold a gun again. Never hurt anyone again."
Sarah stared at Diaz’s twitching, bleeding body, her face a mix of shock, relief, and something deeper—gratitude, understanding, or perhaps the dawning realization that the world was far more complex than she’d ever imagined. Her eyes flickered to me, searching, questioning, as if trying to reconcile the man who had saved her with the monster who had slaughtered her enemies.
I released my telekinetic hold on Javier and Sergio, letting them stumble to the ground like broken puppets. They stared at me, shocked, disbelieving, their minds struggling to process their sudden freedom.
"Okay..." I smirked, my voice light, almost playful, as I stepped toward them. "You’re free to go..." I paused, my eyes gleaming with dark amusement. "Now..." My smile widened, predatory. "Wait for me to come after you." I chuckled, the sound low and knowing. "He he..."
Javier and Sergio exchanged a terrified glance, their bodies frozen in shock. They didn’t move. They didn’t dare. The warehouse was silent except for the drip of blood and the ragged breaths of broken men.
Without another word, I scooped Sarah into my arms, lifting her as if she weighed nothing. She gasped, her hands instinctively clutching at my shoulders, her face flushing as I carried her out of the warehouse like a princess being rescued from a nightmare.
The moment we stepped outside, the fresh air hit us like a wave, but it didn’t erase the horror of what lay behind. Sarah’s stomach heaved, and she doubled over, vomiting violently onto the ground. I held her hair back, my hand gentle on her back, patting it soothingly as she emptied her stomach.
When she finally straightened, her face was pale, her eyes red-rimmed and exhausted. She looked at me, her voice a shaky whisper. "Are you really letting them go?"
I met her gaze, my expression serious but soft. "Didn’t you want to catch them with the law?" I tilted my head, my voice gentle. "How can I not listen to you?"
Sarah’s eyes filled with tears, her voice breaking. "Why?" She swallowed hard, her fingers clutching at my shirt. "I said those things to you..." Her voice cracked, her body trembling. "Why would you help me...?" Her tears spilled over, her voice raw. "Don’t you hate me...?"
I cupped her face, my thumb brushing away her tears. "How can I hate you?" My voice was soft, sincere. "I know you were angry..." My gaze held hers, unwavering. "At that time..." I paused, my voice gentle.
"And you didn’t mean what you said..." My thumb traced her cheekbone, my voice low. "And I knew..." My eyes burned into hers. "One day, the truth would come out."
Sarah sobbed, her voice a broken whisper. "I’m so sorry..." Her body shuddered, her fingers tightening on my shirt. "Please forgive me..."
I sighed, my voice teasing, playful. "I am really angry, Sarah..." My tone lightened, my lips quirking. "You know..." I mock-pouted, my eyes gleaming. "I helped a beauty in distress..." My voice dropped, dramatic.
"Even saved her life..." I shrugged, my voice mock-offended. "And in the end?" My eyes twinkled. "I got scolded for it..."
Sarah’s expression dimmed, her lips trembling, but I didn’t let her dwell in guilt. My voice shifted, mischievous, playful. "But..." I leaned in, my voice a whisper. "I think..." My eyes danced. "A kiss will soothe my hurting heart..."
Sarah blushed, her eyes darting away shyly. "Is—is this okay?" She pecked my cheek, her voice timid, her fingers clutching at my shirt.
I nodded, pulling her into a gentle hug, my voice warm. "More than okay."
She looked up at me, her eyes curious, vulnerable. "Are you really..." Her voice trailed off, her gaze searching mine. "Human?" She bit her lip, her voice a whisper. "I mean..." Her eyes flickered to the warehouse, then back to me.
"You blocked those bullets with your sword..." Her voice dropped, awed. "And you moved like smoke..." Her voice was a mix of fascination and fear. "Strangely..."
I chuckled, my voice low, playful. "Do you want to know?"
Sarah nodded, her eyes wide, eager.
I leaned in, my voice a whisper, mystical. "Aren’t you afraid?" My eyes burned into hers. "I killed all those people..." My voice darkened, serious.
"Don’t you want to bring me to justice..." I paused, my voice cold. "For killing them...?" My eyes held hers. "I am a murderer."
Sarah’s voice trembled, her tears glistening under the faint glow of the streetlights as she looked up at me, her eyes a storm of guilt, relief, and something fragile yet fierce.
"I... I’m not afraid..." she whispered, her fingers clutching my shirt like a lifeline. "I know you won’t harm me... and you’re not a murderer... You saved my life..." Her voice cracked, raw with emotion.
"Otherwise, I don’t know what would have happened to me..." She swallowed hard, her gaze dropping to the ground before meeting mine again, haunted.
"I just wanted to serve justice... and punish people by the law..." Her breath hitched, her voice barely above a whisper. "But the justice was blind..." A tear rolled down her cheek.
"I didn’t even know my father was murdered... and I kept working with the murderers... respecting them as elders..." Her voice broke, her body trembling. "How will I face my father in heaven?"
I reached out, gently placing a finger on her lips to silence her torment. My voice was soft but firm, carrying the weight of truth. "It’s not your fault, Sarah." My thumb brushed away her tears, my gaze unwavering. "It’s that old bastard Sergio and that motherfucker Diaz who are responsible for it."
She nodded slowly, her breath shaky, but her resolve steadying. I cupped her face, my voice gentle yet fierce. "Don’t blame yourself." I could see the conflict in her eyes, the battle between her duty and the darkness she had just witnessed.
"You did what you thought was right. But sometimes, the system is too broken to fix from the inside. Sometimes, justice needs a different kind of hand."
Sarah looked at me, her eyes searching mine, a mixture of gratitude and something deeper—trust, perhaps. "But what do we do now?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
I smiled faintly, my thumb tracing her cheekbone. "Now, we make sure they pay. Legally, if that’s what you want. But know this, Sarah..." My voice dropped to a whisper, my eyes burning into hers. "I will always be here to make sure no one hurts you again."
