Chapter 856: Arturo’s Ego
Chapter 856: Arturo’s Ego
Lorena, Arturo, and his wife—still bound but no longer blindfolded—flinched as the last of the cloth was torn away. The dim light of the station stung their eyes, but it was the sight of me that made them freeze.
Lorena’s voice was hoarse, disbelieving. "Jack... is that you?"
I didn’t look at her immediately. Instead, I turned to Jayden, my voice cold and commanding. "Open their blindfolds. And their handcuffs."
Jayden hesitated, her fingers trembling as she glanced toward the door where Benito and Patricia had been taken. But the thought of her family—her husband, her daughter—still under my control forced her into action. With shaking hands, she unlocked the cuffs and tore away the last of the blindfolds.
The blindfolds slipped away, and Lorena, Arturo, and his wife blinked against the harsh fluorescent lights of the station. Their eyes adjusted just in time to see me standing before them, calm, composed, and utterly in control.
Lorena’s breath hitched, her face twisting into a mixture of shock and fury. Arturo’s jaw clenched, his eyes darting between the armed soldiers surrounding us and me, confusion and defiance warring in his expression.
Lorena’s eyes locked onto me, her expression twisting from confusion to pure, unfiltered rage. "Jack," she hissed, her voice trembling with fury. "You consider me a friend?"
I met her gaze, my voice smooth, almost regretful. "I do."
"Then why did you harm my family like this?!" she snapped, her fists clenching at her sides. "You destroyed us! You humiliated us! You—"
Arturo, still confused and defiant, looked between Jayden and me, his voice sharp with suspicion. "Officer Jayden, what the hell is going on here?!" His eyes flicked to the armed soldiers surrounding us. "What is this?!"
I ignored him, keeping my gaze on Lorena. "I didn’t want to harm your family," I said, my voice low, almost apologetic. "But your father... he went too far." I exhaled, as if burdened by the weight of my own actions. "I just wanted to teach him a lesson."
Lorena’s lips curled in disgust. "A lesson?!" she spat. "You ruined us!" Her voice cracked, her eyes burning with betrayal and fury. "And now you stand there, acting as if you care?!"
I didn’t flinch. "I do care, Lorena," I said, my voice cold and measured. "But your father forced my hand. He thought he could play me. He thought he could control me." I shook my head, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "And he humiliated me...."
Arturo’s face twisted in outrage. "You bastard!" he snarled, stepping forward—only for two soldiers to block his path, their rifles trained on him. "You think you can just walk in here and—"
"I did walk in here," I interrupted, my voice mockingly calm. "And I walked out with everything I wanted." I turned to him, my smile cold and calculating. "Mr. Arturo... it looks like you still haven’t learned the truth."
Arturo spat on the ground, his face twisting in disgust. "I don’t need to learn anything from a criminal like you!" His voice rose, defiant and trembling with fury.
"I’ve already told everything—your killings, your torture of Diaz, your dealings with Tony—to those officers out there!" He gestured wildly toward the soldiers. "You won’t have a good end, Reynolds! They know what you’ve done!"
I chuckled, my amusement dark and knowing. Then, I turned to Jayden, my voice mockingly curious. "Officer Jayden..." I drawled, "What do you think?"
Jayden’s face was pale, her body still trembling from the horror of what I’d done to her family. But when she spoke, her voice was raw, broken, yet defiant.
"I think..." she began, her voice cracking, "you’re a monster."
I smiled.
"No, Jayden," I said, my voice soft, almost gentle. "I’m just a man who doesn’t lose."
Arturo’s face twisted in fury. "You arrogant—"
"Enough." My voice sliced through his, sharp as a blade. I turned back to Lorena, my expression suddenly serious.
"Lorena... I gave you chances. I gave you warnings." I exhaled, as if weary of the fight. "But you chose to stand with him." I gestured to Arturo. "And now... you’ll watch what happens when you bet against me."
Lorena’s breath hitched, her eyes widening in terror. "Jack... please—" Her voice was a desperate whisper, her hands trembling. "We can fix this. We can—"
"There’s no fixing this," I said, my voice final. "Not anymore."
Arturo’s laughter was bitter, hollow, the sound of a man who thought he still had a shred of control. "You think you’re untouchable?" he sneered, his voice dripping with contempt and desperation.
"You think your money and your tricks can save you from the law?" He shook his head, his eyes burning with hatred and defiance. "You’re finished, Reynolds. The moment those soldiers out there realize what you really are, they’ll tear you apart."
I didn’t react. Not with anger, not with fear. I simply turned to Jayden, my voice cold, commanding, and laced with amusement.
"Officer Jayden," I said, my tone mockingly curious, "what do you think?"
Jayden stood there, her body trembling, her breath ragged. She knew the truth—everything was under my control. The soldiers, the station, even her own family. She was broken, but not yet shattered.
For a moment, she hesitated. Then, with a shuddering breath, she turned to the soldiers—her own men, the ones she had brought to stop me.
"Lower your weapons," she ordered, her voice hoarse but firm.
The soldiers exchanged glances, confusion flickering across their faces. But they obeyed. One by one, their rifles dropped, the barrels pointing toward the ground.
Arturo’s face twisted in shock. "Jayden, what the fuck are you doing?!" he snarled, his voice raw with betrayal. "Don’t forget who you work for!"
Jayden didn’t look at him. Instead, she stepped forward, her hand balling into a fist—
And slapped Arturo across the face.
The crack echoed through the station.
"You are slandering someone," she spat, her voice trembling with fury.
Arturo staggered, his hand flying to his cheek, his eyes wide with disbelief. "Jayden—!"
I clapped my hands, slow and deliberate, as if watching a performance.
"Bravo," I said, my voice dripping with amusement. "Officer Jayden... I am quite satisfied with you."
