Chapter 1036: Chapter 103: Is His Luck a Bit Too Good?
After summer began, the Swamp Prefecture became increasingly hot and stifling. Although there were ice blocks in the Prince Mansion, Zhao Yao still found the heat unbearable. He decided to retreat to the mountains for a few days to cool off.
The previous Prefecture Governor of the Swamp Prefecture had a manor in the mountains, specifically for summer retreats. Last year, after Zhao Yao arrived, this manor naturally became his.
The mountains were much cooler; ice blocks were hardly needed. However, one downside was that there were many snakes, insects, mice, and ants. Fortunately, with Xiao Bai and General Hu, along with cats and dogs by Zhao Yao’s side, those creatures and the wild beasts of the mountains dared not approach him.
These past two days, Zhao Yao frequently went up the mountain, roaming casually, picking rare flowers and exotic plants if he came across them, and digging up precious medicinal herbs if he spotted them.
Early this morning, Zhao Yao brought Tong Xi and four brothers for a mountain excursion. In the past two days, they had only wandered around the outskirts of the mountains, not venturing deeply in. Today, they planned to delve deep into the mountains for some adventure. With General Hu accompanying them, the mountain’s fierce beasts dared not come close.
There was no mist at the mountain base, but unexpectedly, the mountains were veiled in mist. Despite being cautious repeatedly, Zhao Yao and his companions ended up separating. Thankfully, General Hu stayed close by Zhao Yao’s side.
Worried that Tong Xi and the others might be in danger, Zhao Yao sent Xiao Bai to find them and lead them down the mountain. He, on the other hand, started to head down with General Hu. With the mist being heavy today, it wasn’t suitable for hiking.
While descending, Zhao Yao wasn’t careful about his footing and accidentally slipped and rolled down the mountain. It took almost a quarter of an hour before he finally stopped.
Zhao Yao only saw stars and felt the world spinning. It wasn’t until General Hu licked his face repeatedly that he regained his senses.
General Hu nudged Zhao Yao’s stomach with his head and asked with concern, "Yao Yao, are you okay?"
Stretching out his hand to pat General Hu’s big head, Zhao Yao smiled at him, "I’m fine, just a bit sore all over." After speaking, he raised his eyes to look around, realizing he was in a mountain hollow. Without this hollow, he wouldn’t know where he would have rolled to.
Feeling dizzy and disoriented, unable to distinguish north, south, east, and west, he lightly patted General Hu’s head, "Da Hua, I’ll have to rely on you, the king of the forest, to get me out."
General Hu proudly raised his big head and said with great confidence, "Yao Yao, don’t worry, I, the king of the forest, will definitely get you out."
Supporting himself with both hands on General Hu’s back, Zhao Yao slowly stood up. Just the motion of standing made Zhao Yao grimace in pain, "Hiss... hiss... hiss..."
Upon hearing Zhao Yao’s hiss, General Hu asked with concern, "Yao Yao, are you really alright?"
"No big deal." Just as Zhao Yao finished speaking, he faintly heard the sound of water, "Is there water nearby?"
General Hu sniffed the air and detected the scent of water, turning his head eastward, "Yes, over there."
Seeing scratches on the backs of his hands and that his face was also cut, Zhao Yao decided to find the stream to clean his wounds to prevent infection.
"Take me over there."
General Hu swayed his tail and said to Zhao Yao, "Yao Yao, I’ll carry you across."
"Alright." Zhao Yao didn’t hesitate, seating himself on General Hu’s back.
General Hu steadily carried Zhao Yao and walked slowly to the streamside.
While Zhao Yao washed his wounds, General Hu found some herbs for treating injuries. Animals find herbs when injured or uncomfortable. Zhao Yao crushed the herbs General Hu found and applied them to his wounds.
After handling the wounds, Zhao Yao began to observe his surroundings. He noticed there seemed to be a cave to the south, but due to the distance, he couldn’t see clearly.
Pointing to the distant spot that appeared to have a cave, he asked General Hu beside him, "Da Hua, is there a cave over there?"
Following Zhao Yao’s pointing, General Hu looked over and lightly nodded his big head.
"Yes, there’s a cave."
Zhao Yao hesitated whether to explore the cave. Often, stories mention caves in deep mountains hiding treasures, rare flora, and medicinal herbs, or secret martial arts manuals.
"Yao Yao, I’ll carry you over there."
Curiosity got the better of Zhao Yao, as he wanted to see if there were treasures inside.
"Alright."
General Hu carried Zhao Yao and soon arrived at the cave entrance. Zhao Yao didn’t rush in but first checked if air was entering the cave. If a cave was ventilated, it indicated that there wouldn’t be toxic gas or miasma inside.
Without needing instructions from Zhao Yao, General Hu entered first to check. Moments later, he came out, surprised, saying to Zhao Yao, "Yao Yao, someone lives inside."
