Chapter 1822: The Fruits of Effort
Chapter 1822: The Fruits of Effort
Whoosh!
Feeling like the attention of the entire universe was now on the two of them after Nadir swore an Oath of Primordial Origins, a solemn expression appeared on Arcane’s face as she watched the barrier separating the void from the true universe shatter without difficulty.
Then, not long after, an aura of tyrannical might and authority washed over the entirety of the void, making Arcane feel as if every nook and cranny that made up her body was being examined by that aura at that moment.
Fortunately, the feeling only lasted for a couple of seconds, allowing both Arcane and Nadir to inwardly let out sighs of relief as the void they were in soon turned back to normal.
"Swearing an oath of that level is never a pleasant experience," said Nadir as it spent a bit of time gathering its bearings. "Anyways, does this finally dispel your doubts, Lynnett?"
"I still feel like you have some underlying motive in doing this," Arcane replied, giving off the feeling that she was looking back at Nadir with a slight frown. "However, swearing the Oath of Primordial Origins so readily does mean that there is a modicum of sincerity somehow."
"With that said, I’ll trust you... for now at least."
"You won’t regret it." Nadir faintly smiled in response. "In fact, even though most of the benefit would go to the being that triggered the Resonance of the Creators, you’ll also stand to gain something out of it as long as everything goes well."
"What do you want him to do exactly?" asked Arcane in return. "You’ve always been saying that he would greatly benefit from it if he were to accept, yet you’ve never really told me what you want him to do."
"That’s because all of this still hinges on the being accepting the task himself," replied Nadir, giving her a slightly wry smile. "Sure, I could tell you all about it now so that you could inform him of the pros and cons, but what if he decides to reject it?"
"Are you going to force him to say yes, then?"
"Of course not." Nadir shook its head at her question. "He would only stand to benefit the most from it if he agrees to it out of his own accord."
"...With how much you’re skirting the line around this topic, I’m starting to get the feeling that the task involves things that are better left unsaid," said Arcane as she pondered over everything the former said to her thus far. "Not in an embarrassing way, I assume. It feels more like the universe would condemn us if we were to speak a single whit of it."
"Correct." Nadir nodded. "However, as someone that’s already at the Primordial level, you wouldn’t face any backlash from the universe even if I were to speak it to you."
"With that said, the task that I wish for the being to accept is related to Veradine’s final wish."
"Her final wish?" Arcane looked at Nadir with slight surprise. "But he’s already beginning to make headway in that regard."
"Though making Shadow Energy and its higher forms more accessible to everyone is indeed her final wish, it would be more accurate to say that it’s only one of the many she had," said the latter, indirectly informing Arcane that it had the ability to watch anything that happened within the Shadow Plane at any time.
Naturally, that included the spaces where the Shadowsource and the Void Core resided, the latter of which was still being occupied by Valyr even in his current state.
"If making Shadow Energy more accessible is just one of her multiple final wishes, which final wish are you talking about, then?" Arcane asked.
"Her greatest final wish," answered Nadir, its expression turning solemn as a tear fell from its right eye. "The greatest regret she wanted to resolve before her untimely death."
Watching Nadir’s uncharacteristic behavior, Arcane could not help but wonder what kind of wish Veradine had that made its wisp act this way.
Though, when she heard the next words that came out of Nadir’s mouth, she finally understood why.
"If the inheritor of Azradas’ will ever appears in the Shadow Plane, Veradine hopes that the inheritor of Azradas’ will..."
"...Would head to her final resting place and inherit her own will, finally allowing her and Azradas to be reunited once more."
...
"Grand Sage, we’ve finished checking through the latest article written by the Heaven and Earth Scholar."
As he read through the document that was placed on his desk, Genesius had a calm expression on his face as he listened to the words of his subordinate.
"A Proposed Selection of Modifications and Optimizations to the Flaws within the Basic Ether Gathering Scripture..." the Grand Sage muttered, reading the title of the document. "What does the governing body think of it, Great Sage Kelzar?"
Feeling a hint of pressure the moment the former stared at him, Kelzar took in a deep breath as he replied, "Though some of the logic is a bit convoluted due to the perspective the Heaven and Earth Scholar has, applying the modifications and optimizations she proposed to the Basic Ether Gathering Scripture has shown significant improvements in the scripture’s ether gathering ability."
"Although we have yet to conclude a definite value for how much of an improvement these changes would have, we have confirmed that a Sage of the 1st Lower Boundary with the revised scripture would be able to pull in 37% more ether from the air, which is roughly equivalent to what a Sage of the 2nd Lower Boundary is capable of."
The Grand Sage’s eyes slightly widened in surprise. "How many Sages have you tested this scripture with?"
"Over a hundred Sages of the Lower Boundary with aptitudes ranging from Middle Boundary to Upper Boundary potential, Grand Sage," Kelzar replied, cold sweat dripping down from his forehead. "Is... is there a problem?"
"Hmm..." Rather than respond to the man’s question, Genesius continued to browse through the document given to him, internalizing all of the information written on the article before closing his eyes.
Whoosh!
Then, all of a sudden, his aura covered the entirety of the room, forcing Kelzar to conjure a barrier around himself in fear of being crushed by the Grand Sage’s pressure.
Fortunately, the latter’s outburst of aura only lasted for a brief moment as the Grand Sage looked at the Great Sage before him with a hint of excitement.
"The Heaven and Earth Scholar has made a great contribution to the entire Sage path," he said as his expression soon turned solemn. "Though it may not seem like much right now, what if the Heaven and Earth Scholar were to discover more optimizations in the future?"
"Wouldn’t that mean the most basic ether gathering scripture could become a heaven-defying scripture?"
"Inform the governing body," he continued, focusing his attention on Kelzar. "Tell them to promote the Heaven and Earth Scholar to the Four-star Scholar rank. Also, tell them to promote this article throughout the entire planet, informing the masses on how much of a change the Scholar’s actions had on the path of a Sage."
"But most importantly, inform the governing body that I plan to reward the Heaven and Earth Scholar with a Heavenly Fruit that would allow them to immediately gain the strength of a pinnacle Sage-to-be."
After making sure that Kelzar noted down everything he said to him, the Grand Sage soon allowed the Great Sage to leave as his focus still lingered on the document on his desk.
’To think the young girl I’d kept an eye on in the past would actually be able to achieve such a tremendous feat. Quite surprising, especially considering the fact that she hadn’t trekked the path of a Sage whatsoever.’
’...Then again, it’s already been 15 years. The perfect time for her to traverse the path of a Sage has already passed.’
’Though this fruit I’ll be giving her isn’t all that potent, at the very least it would help me atone for some of the sins my verdict on her has caused.’
