Chapter 1824: Helping an Old Friend

Chapter 1824: Helping an Old Friend

"...You can’t be serious," said Arcane the moment she heard Nadir say Veradine’s greatest regret before her death.

"Oh, but I am." Nadir nodded in understanding, not surprised that the former would find the entire thing absurd.

"Let’s exclude the fact that she wants both of their wills to be united after death for now." Spending a bit of time going over Nadir’s words in her mind, Arcane eventually let out a faint sigh.

"Has she ever thought about how it’s next to impossible for the first requirement in her wish to be fulfilled?" she asked soon after.

"Which requirement?"

"The part where the inheritor of Azradas’ will would come to the Shadow Plane."

"Ah, that." Nadir nodded once more. "She has definitely taken that into consideration beforehand. If not, then we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now."

"Well, it doesn’t seem like she has," said Arcane in return, thinking about the multiple coincidences that needed to happen before getting to this point. "In my eyes, this entire thing only came about by pure chance."

"She made it look like it appeared to happen that way," clarified Nadir, prompting the former to look back at it in slight confusion. "As someone that’s already at the Primordial level, you know that there are things that are better left unsaid within the universe."

"Now, if the universe knew that a Creator had purposefully left a contingency plan behind that would allow two Creators to be reunited in some way in the far future, what do you think it would do?"

At those words, Arcane remained silent.

Though Nadir hadn’t made it obvious through its words, she knew that the ’universe’ in its words was pertaining to an entirely different entity than the actual universe itself.

With that in mind, she also had an idea of what might happen the moment the what-if scenario Nadir mentioned was indeed discovered by the ’universe’.

"With how you’ve been mentioning the universe in your words, I suppose it’s for the best that I don’t respond to your earlier question," said Arcane after some time, to which Nadir gave her a knowing smile.

"Though, before we continue our conversation any further..."

Arcane took a brief glance around them before asking the latter a question.

"Have you made sure that no information would leak out of this place?"

"Not to worry." Nadir nodded, its expression serious. "I have total control over this space. You were only able to enter this space because I gave the permission needed for you to enter."

"The same could be said for the oath I swore earlier, but I made sure not to share any additional information through the oath unless it was necessary."

"Alright." Arcane nodded in understanding, her aura giving off a hint of relief. "Let’s continue where we left off, then."

Nadir nodded back in agreement.

"Since you’ve more or less answered the part regarding the requirements needed to get to this point, I now want to ask more about the wish itself."

"When you say Veradine wants both her and Azradas’ will to be reunited..." Arcane looked at the being before her. "Does that mean what I think it does?"

"What else could it possibly mean?" the latter replied, giving Arcane a faint yet enigmatic smile.

"Wait..." When she heard Nadir’s words at first, Arcane thought that the former was just being intentionally mysterious, hoping that she would wrack her brain to figure out the answer herself.

Though, when she went through their entire conversation in their head, she eventually realized something.

She was unintentionally avoiding what was glaringly obvious.

"Seriously...?" Realizing this, Arcane could not help but speak with a hint of disbelief. "Veradine and Azradas... had feelings for each other?"

"They had feelings, but not to the point that it’s romantic," Nadir clarified. "I guess the best way to describe what they felt for each other would be a pair of kindred spirits."

"Kindred spirits..." As Arcane repeated the term in her head, she slowly recalled a couple of memories from a distant past, reminding her of a simpler time where she had less worries in life.

And in one of those memories was a couple talking to each other, discussing a number of various topics that mostly went over everyone’s head at the time.

Yet, rather than stop and give the others time to understand what they were saying, the two seemed to have pushed everyone into the background as they continued to talk as if they were the only people in the world.

Briefly recalling those bittersweet memories from the far-flung past, Arcane eventually let out a soft exhale.

"To think there was more happening between them than meets the eye," said Arcane as she turned to look at Nadir. "Does Azradas know of this arrangement?"

"He does." The latter nodded. "Though I’m not sure if his inheritor knows of it."

"Which is where I come in." Arcane nodded in understanding. "I understand now."

Hearing the tone in her voice, Nadir began to look at her with a hint of anticipation. "Does that mean...?"

"I’ll try my best to convince him, but the decision is still ultimately up to him," replied the former as she gave Nadir a knowing look. "Though, with all things considered, it’s highly likely that he’ll agree."

"...You don’t know how much this means to me, Lynnett." Hearing Arcane finally give her verbal agreement, a myriad of emotions washed over Nadir as tears began to well up around its eyes.

"To be honest, I was already beginning to think that you would decline to help," it continued, only to let out a chuckle soon after. "Then again, hearing from someone related to Veradine after so long would definitely be suspicious for someone like you."

Arcane remained silent.

"I..." Feeling immense gratitude towards Arcane at this moment, Nadir spent some time finding the right words to say. "I... no."

"If Veradine were still alive, she would be more than happy to hear that you’re helping her fulfill her final wish."

"Took us a while to get to this point, but I feel the same way," said Arcane in return, her aura making it seem like she was giving Nadir a slight smile.

"Then again, as a Creator myself, it’s the least I can do."

"Especially for an old friend like Veradine."
