Feeling his consciousness finally reconnect with the waking world once more, Valyr began to rouse himself as he spent a bit of time sorting out the jumble of thoughts currently lingering in his mind.
"No, wait... who am I?" However, just as he was about to start going through those thoughts to get a better sense of things, an influx of thoughts surfaced in his mind at that moment.
"My name... is Veradine Avantis," he muttered, thinking back to the events that he had just gone through. "I am a Six-star Scholar, as well as a pinnacle Sage-to-be whose ether strand count exceeds the minimum amount needed to enter the Lower Boundary."
"I’ve just created the Full Cycle Ether Gathering Technique, a technique that..."
"Wait..."
"Who am I, really?"
Although Valyr knew that the words coming out of his mouth were based off the things that he had just gone through, the young man soon began to feel a sense of incongruence from it.
Getting the feeling that something was wrong, he went silent as he began to go over the thoughts he was planning to go through earlier, sifting through them one by one in order to find the answer he sought.
Thankfully, it did not take long for everything to clear up in his mind, causing a look of realization to appear on his face as he gave himself a reminder.
"I’m not Veradine."
"I may have gone through her life, but I am not her."
"I am Valyr Zeihardt."
"I am merely an observer."

At the moment those words left his mouth, the confusion that previously enveloped his mind disappeared without a trace.
Taking its place was a sense of clarity, prompting him to inwardly let out a wide sigh of relief as he began to go through his thoughts with relative ease.
"...I see now."
By the time he was done, the young man had a look of understanding as he briefly closed his eyes.
"Although it feels like I haven’t fallen unconscious this entire time, I was actually fully unconscious through my experience of Veradine’s life," he muttered as he began to sort out the remaining confusion he had.
"I don’t know what caused me to fall unconscious, but because I was unconscious, I began to subconsciously think that I was her after experiencing a good chunk of her life."
"...Scary." The young man slightly shuddered at those words, especially once he realized that he was just about to forget who he truly was.
Remaining silent after that, Valyr shifted his attention towards his surroundings, only to find out that he was still in the Void Core after all this time.
Wondering how long he had stayed in the Void Core while he was unconscious, the young man soon thought about the sequence of events that led to his current situation.
"As far as I remember, Arcane and I were talking about the scripture I derived from the 81 Phases Mana Reformation Scripture that would allow one to convert Shadow Energy to Void Energy."
"Then, at some point in the conversation, she mentioned something that caused a terrifying aura to envelop my body."
Faintly recalling how that aura appeared around his body out of nowhere, Valyr’s face turned slightly pale as he thought about how helpless was against it.
Taking a couple of deep breaths to compose himself, he then continued where he left off.
"After that terrifying aura enveloped my body, I fell unconscious and went through the life of a woman named Veradine Avantis for... 25 years, I think."
"Then, just as she had created her own Ether Gathering Technique, I woke up confused, wondering if I was her or if I was still me."
"..."
"Yeah, that doesn’t make sense."
Although the sequence of events lined up with what he had just gone through, the young man could not help but feel as if the entire thing came out of nowhere.
After all, what was his relation to the woman named Veradine Avantis? And why did a seemingly random string of words cause him to go through that entire experience?
"...It might have something to do with the Void Core," said Valyr as he gave the entire thing a bit more thought. "If not the Void Core, then probably the Shadow Plane."
As he continued to ponder over the sequence of events in his mind, the young man was soon reminded of the fact that this wasn’t the first time he had gone through this kind of experience.
In fact, he had already gone through something similar in the past.
Specifically, back when he entered the Four Pillars’ Inheritance to obtain the skills that Vaughn said would allow him to exert control over the Shards of Authority he had.
"Azradas... Vol’veritum," Valyr muttered as he gazed at the massive structure in front of him. "Is Veradine Avantis... the same kind of person?"
Mulling over the thought in silence, the young man felt that the answer to his question was most likely a yes.
After all, just like Veradine, he had also gone through Azradas’ life back at the inheritance.
Though, unlike hers, his experience of Azradas’ life was more fragmented, allowing him to free himself from the confusion of the entire ordeal with greater ease.
Of course, there was still a chance that the two weren’t connected whatsoever.
For one, he was only able to experience Azradas’ life after learning a series of skills from the Four Pillars’ Inheritance.
While in Veradine’s case, he only needed to hear a certain set of words from Arcane in order for the same thing to happen.
"Speaking of which, where did Arcane go?"
Although he had already taken note of it the moment he took a look at his surroundings, it was only now did the young man realize that even the mark she left behind had disappeared.
Scratching the back of his head soon after, Valyr frowned for a bit before shaking his head.
"I’m probably overthinking the actual answer," he said to himself. "Perhaps the mark she left broke apart after being subjected to the terrifying aura that covered my body."

"...But surely the answer isn’t just that, right?"
Just as Valyr threw that rhetorical question out into the void, a voice that sounded familiar to him actually answered his question.
"It’s not... but you’re thinking in the right direction."
