Chapter 1032 1032 Wolf Hunter (2)

''Attention? When did we attract any attention? We just arrived in Amber Dawn! Aren't you targeting us on purpose here?'' Xingyi's voice lacked her usual clear and melodious tone, sounding more like the voice of an angry woman in her 50s as she stared daggers at Wolf Hunter!

Nodding her head, Liu Mei who was standing by her side suddenly took a step forward, the look in her eyes just as cold and ominous as she added in

''That's right. Besides, isn't it the motto of your Lunar Grave guild to 'not ask' about your members' identities? Aren't you going back on that right now?''

Wolf Hunter was momentarily stunned by the two women's sudden rebuttal, his gaze darkening as he looked at them without another word, his eyes finally leaving Shun Long's figure for the first time since their meeting.

Was he -an exalted Void-class assassin and late-stage Dao Emperor- really being accused of 'targeting someone on purpose'? And by two peak-stage Dao Kings to boot?

No matter how he looked at it, there was nothing special about these two women either.

Yes, they were both peak rank 9 Dao Kings, and the aura each of them emitted was significantly purer than any other Dao King Wolf Hunter had interacted with... but!

''That's all there is to them. Aside from that old man, the rest of them are merely Dao Kings. Maybe they'd have some use for the guild if they broke through to become Dao Emperors, but until then, they are nothing but ants.''

Gathering his thoughts, Wolf Hunter then looked at the two women behind the old man, no longer hiding the sneer that had found its way on his face as he casually rested his cheek against his fist.

Glancing at Liu Mei first and then Xingyi, the man shook his head with an exasperated smile, before his deep voice echoed throughout the room

''Targeting you? You think I'm the one targeting you? How foolish!'' Wolf Hunter's gaze only lingered on the two women for what seemed to be a single second before he turned to Shun Long and continued

''Unfortunately, fellow daoist's group is still new in Amber Dawn so you don't seem to be aware of how things work here. However, since you plan on joining our Lunar Grave guild I'll explain everything first, lest you leave this place begrudged and unaware.

It's true that I've been tasked with finding out your identities, but it's not because you chose to become members of our guild. Rather, it's because your group has already made a commotion in the city.''

Glancing at Jiang Chen, the man narrowed his eyes before he continued

''Not only did you spend a large amount of spirit stones to buy that little shop at the heart of the city, but you even bought information about our guild's upper echelons from the White Tiger's branch. Now tell me fellow daoist, do you think our guild could possibly ignore it when a person like you shows such interest in our members?... If anything, I'd say it's even more surprising when you come here on your own volition, claiming you want to 'become one of us'.''

Wolf Hunter was still looking at Jiang Chen and the others behind him, but it was obvious that his question was meant for Shun Long as the smile gradually vanished from his lips.

At the same time, Shun Long could tell that the middle-aged man wasn't telling him the full truth but merely a part of it.

At the very least, the Lunar Grave guild wouldn't be so interested in someone just because they spent some spirit stones looking into them. After all, for a guild that prided itself on its ability to keep things secret, they wouldn't allow any real information to leak out.

That was why, even though Jiang Chen had indeed spent an exorbitant amount of spirit stones digging information on the Lunar Grave guild's higher-ups, other than their Assassin-class and their last-known cultivation bases, there was barely any other info that came up.

And yet, Shun Long knew that regardless of whether he spent money buying that information or not, since he'd decided to establish his shop in Amber Dawn, it was only a matter of time before he attracted the attention of the assassin guilds and had them knocking on his door.

''Hmph, I see. I suppose it's normal for you to be curious, given the circumstances. Since that's the case, Wolf Hunter, let me enlighten you.''

As he finished speaking, Shun Long tapped his finger on the small, wooden table in front of him once more, before his old, wrinkled face finally grinned for the very first time.

At that moment, Wolf Hunter could tell that something was wrong, his instincts screaming at him to get as far away from here as possible, as the man hurriedly stood up from his seat... to his credit.

Unfortunately, he was just a step too slow!

Almost at the same time he stood up, a horrifying burst of spiritual strength filled the private room akin to a tidal wave, instantly enveloping the Void-class assassin.

Wolf Hunter grimaced, his eyes opening wide as he stared at the old man in front of him in clear disbelief!

Even his legs trembled for a moment as the terrifying wave of spiritual strength shook his spiritual sea, causing him to take a step back and almost collapse back on the couch behind him.

And yet, the peak-stage Dao Emperor didn't even seem to notice this!

No, his own eyes were fully glued on Shun Long now, as a single word slowly but surely took form in his mind

''Sovereign! This man is a Sovereign!''

Before the middle-aged man could ask any further questions though, the old man's lips parted as he said in that ever-hoarse voice of his

''My name is Han Long. As for my identity... I am nothing but a humble alchemist.''
