Chapter 1080 Amber Dawn’s Dao Tower

Liu Mei and Xingyi were already waiting in the room by the time Shun Long exited the foggy space.

They were sitting opposite each other on the two small cushions Bai Longtian had gifted Shun Long last year, and Xingyi seemed to be animatedly talking about something, while Liu Mei just listened to her and occasionally nodded with a smile.

"Mei, let’s go back together! I still have that talisman I got from the sixth trial of the Heavenly Tower. Even if our opponent is a late-stage Sovereign, he won’t be able to escape unscathed if I use it!"

It was only then that Liu Mei finally shook her head and gently placed her smooth, white palm on top of Xingyi’s head, like an older sister trying to placate her younger sibling who wanted justice for her.

But Xingyi’s emerald eyes were still filled with defiance. She wanted to argue further and tell her that they shouldn’t take this lying down, but that’s when the two young women finally spotted the azure-robed elder who’d appeared on the bed.

"...Brother Long!"

"Long-ge!"

Shun Long took off his disguise and grinned at them, his eyes lingering on Liu Mei for a few seconds longer.

He knew that the effects of his ’Time Reversal’, along with the top-grade ’Clear Jade Evergreen pills’ had already healed her injuries, but evidently that wasn’t enough.

Liu Mei had been a bit too close to dying this time around, and she had only been saved thanks to the effects of that pendant she’d received from her master, Xuan Jiao, as a greeting gift when she was accepted as her personal disciple.

But she didn’t have a second pendant.

If this happened again, she would truly die, and Shun Long didn’t know for certain if his ’World Zero’ would be enough to bring back someone who was actually dead. There was a chance, of course, but he couldn’t know for sure.

Even supreme experts who had cultivated the ’Dao of Life’ couldn’t do something like that.

So they needed something to protect themselves!

Well, aside from Bai Longtian who had been stopped by his heart demons, Liu Mei, Xingyi, and Jiang Chen, had all received some kind of protective talisman after passing the sixth trial of the ’Heavenly Tower’, but talismans weren’t that easy to activate either.

They needed large amounts of spiritual qi infused inside them, but when faced with a Sovereign, unless Liu Mei and the others were already prepared to face such an opponent, those talismans wouldn’t be of much help.

A Sovereign wouldn’t just sit there and wait for them to kill him.

So Shun Long knew that what Liu Mei and the rest truly needed were life-saving artifacts that could save their life at least once.

He fell silent, thinking back to all the materials he’d gathered during the second trial of the Heavenly Tower.

"I can probably craft a few protective artifacts with them. I’m not sure if gold-grade artifacts would be enough against a Sovereign, but I should be able to craft at least a pseudo star-rank artifact after becoming a Dao Emperor..."

Shun Long’s mind worked in overdrive as he thought back to all the treasures he’d obtained from the ’City of Immortals’.

Honestly, all he needed right now was just time.

Time to comprehend his Dao of Time past the limits of a peak-stage Dao King.

Time to sit inside the foggy space and concoct a few more pills, including the ’Azure Harmony pill’ that could help a Dao King break through to become a Dao Emperor, as well as the ’Seven Purities pill’, the star-rank equivalent of the ’Clear Jade Evergreen pill’.

But more importantly, Shun Long knew he had to visit Amber Dawn’s Dao Tower and see where he stood right now.

Liu Mei and Xingyi both seemed to sense the chaotic mess in his emotions, but that only lasted for the briefest of moments before Shun Long turned to them again.

With that same smile finding its way to his face, he handed them each a single top-grade ’Immortal Meridian pill’ and just took a seat at the head of the small wooden table, pincered between the two peerless beauties.

The world of cultivation was arduous, but Shun Long wasn’t going to get completely swept up in it, no matter what. Even if he had a ton of things to do, even if he felt like the world around him was collapsing, he would do everything at his own pace.

He spent the next couple of hours in his room, just spending some quality time with Liu Mei and Xingyi.

Xingyi seemingly had a lot to tell him, too, including the fact that she was apparently the second person after Jiang Chen to recruit a Dao Emperor into her squad.

It was only after the sun had started to set that Shun Long put his disguise back on and began to roam the streets of Amber Dawn once more.

Finding Amber Dawn’s ’Dao Tower’ wasn’t too hard.

The colossal black tower was located in the western part of the city, surrounded by rows of inconspicuous buildings that only served to accentuate the tower’s grandeur.

However, unlike the Holy city’s ’Dao Tower’, Shun Long quickly realized that this tower in front of him was almost empty. There were no queues of hundreds of other cultivators waiting in front of its entrance, nor were there any youths filled with the same fighting spirit and excitement to test their strength.

No. Aside from the occasional Spirit realm and Nascent Soul stage cultivator coming and going, this place looked almost... abandoned.

It was a peculiar sight that Shun Long had a hard time explaining.

Well, that was until he remembered that the vast majority of Amber Dawn’s population was split between the city guard, the assassins belonging to the two guilds, and the average cultivator who had to watch their step around them.

The undercurrents in Amber Dawn were so intense that they even affected the way the city’s shops operated.

Shun Long had simply forgotten about it because his shop was constantly packed, seemingly unaffected by the political situation that was growing tenser and tenser with every passing day.

Letting out a breath, he stepped forward, entering the giant black tower once more.
